Wonderful atmosphere, service and food. Highly recommend. One of the best in the city. Live music duo lovely.
I came here with my family and husband after my ballet recital. We'd always noticed Varnase but hadn't been. Our server, Neil, was very attentive and knowledgeable. Everyone was satisfied with their meals and the price was extremely reasonable. I loved the live music. We will be back- especially for some of the prix fix meals.
Varanese is a great place to get a great meal. There was a jazz band playing while we were there. The drink menu was extensive, and the food was delicious!
Pork chop highly overrated. Tough cut this night.
My husband & I took our daughter & her boyfriend, who share the same birthday (03/17) there to celebrate. The food & wine were excellent, as always, but we were very disappointed with the service. Our server, Tracy, forgot that we had ordered two appetizers, so we never got them with our meal (although the manager did offer us one appetizer to go). Having been advised she forgot our appetizers, she then offered multiple excuses ~ the restaurant is so busy tonight, I have so many tables, etc.), & then proceeded to basically ignore us until it was time to bring the check. We were also supposed to get four desserts (two of the dinners came with it), but we only got three. I still consider Varanese one of my favorite “special occasion” restaurants, but this experience was less than stellar.
We hadn't been to Varanese in a while. We chose this restaurant for a family dinner as there is a nice variety of entrees. The server was good and attentive. The music was a nice touch although it was a bit loud and a little hard to talk over. Everyone's entrees were well-received. Pasta with veggies got a big thumbs up from our 15 year old. My husband had the crab cake sandwich and it was really good, as always. My MIL had the salmon and enjoyed it. My FIL and I had the vegetarian plate. I love being able to choose from several side veggies to make up a meal. All of the items were very good....grilled asparagus, roasted Brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes, etc. We won't wait so long between visits!
We were a party of four celebrating one birthday. We had a great time, and the food was excellent. Jenny was our energetic and amazing server. Great hospitality!
We normally love Varanese and it has been one of our preferred dining spots. Unfortunately our most recent experience was less delicious than expected. Service was still very good. We ordered the soft shell crab special - a favorite delicacy. The crab was chewy rather than crisp and the dish had a "garnish" of sauce. It would have benefitted from more sauce.
The noise level is much too high. Will not return. Many other restaurants to chose.
Varanese is one of our favorite go to places. The quality of the food, taste, selection and service is always dependable. Their pork chop and salmon for $15.00 is a very good meal at a good price when they have it. We have visited several times on short notice after receiving the email announcing this special.
My favorite is the Beef Tips and Tortellini
The cocktail menu is very good and the Burnt Lemon Old Fashion was very enjoyable.
The live music adds nicely to the atmosphere although we chose to be seated away from the performers so we can talk more easily.
This was a lovely "landing place" for our Louisville weekend. Off the downtown scene, but with all the flair and fun of a downtown bistro. We loved the live music, cheese grits and the bread pudding. We'll be back on our next visit!
Excellent food. Wait staff very nice and ready to treat you with good care. Price was appropriate for the upscale atmosphere. We will be eating there again.
The food and appetizers were very good. Service was attentive and not overbearing. Noise level was loud enough that hearing jazz quartet was somewhat hindered.
Always nice for special occasions
Server was fantastic! The steak is cooked To where it is kind of chard. I know some people love it, I’m not crazy about that taste though. Price was good, ambience (comfort, music, seating) was what made the night special for me.
Varanese can always be counted on for a wonderful experience. This restaurant does dinner to perfection. Every aspect is spot on from the ambiance, to the food, to the service and also the live music. You will be delighted.
Here every other week
Our server Aaron was fantastic! Great recommendations for an awesome meal! Kudos.
We always enjoy going to Varanese. Food and service are always excellent. Guitar stylings of Jeff Sherman just wonderful. Specials this visit included oysters...
Celebrated my birthday with family. Started with a delicious Pinot Grigio served perfectly and left in a stone chiller, two appetizers, both very creative and tasty. All of us had different salads - couldn't eat all of it because portions so large. Entree tenderloin steak was cooked perfectly, with a side of fantastic Brussels sprouts - which is one of my favorites. Again, large portion so I had a nice doggy-bag to enjoy later. Live music by the Jeff Sherman trio is always an added treat, Service was right on the spot. Perfect evening of food, wine, music and service made us all very happy.
One of the BEST experiences my wife and I have had at ANY restaurant. We will definitely be back.
I have eaten here numerous times and never been disappointed.
Once again Varanese did not disappoint. I always get the angel hair pasta with shrimp (and capers) and it was delicious once again! My husband had the special (steak, lobster tail, and mushroom risotto) and he was in heaven. Both dishes were just as tasty the next day as leftovers!
Great food, great ambience, great service!
Varanese is always a winning choice. We thoroughly enjoy dining here.
Varanese is our very favorite restaurant. We would eat here every evening if it was practical to do so.
Always amazing. Food is delicious and high quality. Service is outstanding! Easily one of the best in Louisville.
very loud and my order was incorrect. My salmon at home is better.
Without spending a fortune, we had a great "date night" complete with delicious meal and drinks. I can't wait to go back. I enjoyed the shrimp and grits, and my date loved the pork chop.
First time for evening dinner. Great overall experience.
It was wonderful the pork chop was so tasteful I will be coming back
Excellent restaurant, top notch. The food is phenomenal made from fresh, high quality ingredients. The atmosphere is romantic and vibrant. It's the best restaurants to goto for a special occasion, a date night, or just to get some amazing food. I've been at least a dozen times and never had anything less than a perfect experience.
Wonderful. A little expensive. But then, we ordered a high dollar wine... so, my fault. The pork chop is, hands down, the best food value in the city of Louisville. Extraordinary, at $20.
Thanks for a night of food and romance.
Varanese is such a great restaurant. I’ve eaten there several times and thought it would be the perfect place to celebrate my husband’s birthday with our “young adult” children. The staff really worked to accommodate several of my special requests! Our waitress was fantastic and assisted us with making several food choices and she was spot on. We also thoroughly enjoyed the jazz trio; it truly was a great birthday dinner for our family!
Both the service and food were perfect, as always!
We had a decent start to the meal ordering up the beef short rib taquitos and the crab avocado balls as an appetizer. Our server was pleasant and seemed to be knowledgeable of the menu and boasted how all of the seafood was flown in from the west coast and Hawaii, always fresh, and never frozen as well as all of the meat products being local... fantastic! This is where the upside of our experience ended. My wife ordered up the flat iron steak and specified medium which ended up coming out bloody as hell and I would dare say that it was even a little under medium rare touching on the side of being flat out rare. The mushroom risotto tasted like they had pulled it out of the fridge and didn't warm it up all the way, as it was practically ice cold, not to mention seriously lacking flavor. Ever hear of salt guys! She didn't complain about the steak, but asked for another risotto and was brought out promptly, and was at a suitable temperature this time. My ribeye which I ordered medium rare was cooked to the proper doneness but seemed as though it had sat out longer than it should have before being brought out to our table because the lobster infused butter that was spooned on top of my steak hadn't even begun to melt. The mac and cheese that was served with my steak was decent, but overall the dinner was just meh! Save your money and go somewhere else!
The food was unique and delicious. Great use of space and is very intimate but very loud. However, it was Valentines Day so it was extremely crowded.
