Probably the best meal I’ve ever ate living in Louisville having move here only 2 years ago.
Always the best!
Had reservations thru OPEN TABLE, was seated immediately. Was very noisy but there was live music and a modeling show which was good.
Amazing restaurant! Night we were there was very crowded, due to student jazz. Staff and owner were on point. Food and drinks paced just right, no long delays or rush to get us in and out. Food is creative, yet comfortable. Live jazz nightly. Great evening.
Another fine meal! Excellent service. Host David was phenomenal. Jazz band that evening set a really nice vibe. Will definitely be back.
Food & service were great as usual. Was unusually for 9:30 on a Saturday. The noise level was slightly elevated, but with a full house it’s expected. Will definitely be back in the future. The bourbon barrel pork chop is always a great if you’re looking for a food”gasm”!
Food was good but overpriced. I expected more of an experience but wasnt more than a normal
restraurant but with high priced food and drinks. I eat out alot but this was just more than I want to pay for a meal.
John Varanese's restaurants are gems. However, Varanese on Frankfort Avenue remains our favorite. The food and service are superb! In nice weather, the sliding doors/walls transform the main dining area into a "lanai." With inclement weather they are closed, creating a more intimate experience... Not to be missed!
Had the bourbon pork chop and it was perfect. Wife had the flatiron steak and she loved it as well. Great service too. Never had to ask for anything. Went on Wednesday to take advantage of the 50% off bottle of wine. Very reasonable wine prices when that comes into play.
Had the most wonderful experience at Varanese. So accommodating, the most caring, kind, and considerate wait staff, and great food. Can't wait to return and try more of the menu!
Calamri was amazing and chocolate lava cake which was free for our anniversary. The atmosphere was great a party of 10 sat us . all in all it was nice to experience once. Rose petals on the table. Hubby got the lamb which wasn't ver much food but good and I got the flat iron steak it was just ok. But the appetizer was amazing.
Get the pork chop....best in the Ville
Amanda was extremely helpful in accommodating our large group. Wait staff was outstanding and food was top notch. Can’t wait to go back!
We had great service and really enjoyed listening to Jeff Sherman's Duo with our meal. The salmon in the pasta was perfect for me, but a little under cooked for my wife. Next time we will specify that her salmon needs to be cooked a little longer when we place the order.
Delightful Easter afternoon with friends and family. Love the food!
Went to Varanese for my wife’s birthday. There was a jazz band playing, which was unexpected, but cool. The food was amazing. The crab stuffed avocado appetizer, well...that says it all. My ribeye entree was cooked perfectly. But the marshmallow toffee bread pudding may be the best stuff I’ve ever put in my mouth! Our waiter was Jarrod, who was excellent. Very laid back but also very attentive. Can’t wait to go back! Thanks for a great evening!
On top of great food and service, our specialty cocktails (Manhattan and Sazerac) were terrific!
Excellent service, menu and ambiance! Highly recommend!
We love Varanese! Daily specials are always delicious & service is outstanding!!
Acoustic panels are a good try, but noise level is still annoyingly high.
Delicious food with great service. The baked Brie was the highlight for us followed by the flat iron steak!
Food was good, but not exceptional. Great atmosphere.
Wonderful atmosphere, service and food. Highly recommend. One of the best in the city. Live music duo lovely.
I came here with my family and husband after my ballet recital. We'd always noticed Varnase but hadn't been. Our server, Neil, was very attentive and knowledgeable. Everyone was satisfied with their meals and the price was extremely reasonable. I loved the live music. We will be back- especially for some of the prix fix meals.
My experience at Varanese was just okay. The Brie appetizer and wine selection were both great. I had gotten the Brisket with brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes which considering the price of the plate I assumed the food would be of better quality taste wise. The brisket was overcooked and very fatty and my brussel sprouts were barely cooked, yet burnt. I ended up not eating them at all and the waiter didn't even offer a substitute. The biggest issue that I had was being mis-gendered by multiple members of staff in addition to my service feeling as if I was being ignored. I was called "Sir" on multiple occasions without them apologizing or even making an attempt to correct themselves. I'm a woman with short hair and in Ohio where I reside and the rest of the venues I went to in KY, I never had such issues.
Varanese is a great place to get a great meal. There was a jazz band playing while we were there. The drink menu was extensive, and the food was delicious!
Pork chop highly overrated. Tough cut this night.
My husband & I took our daughter & her boyfriend, who share the same birthday (03/17) there to celebrate. The food & wine were excellent, as always, but we were very disappointed with the service. Our server, Tracy, forgot that we had ordered two appetizers, so we never got them with our meal (although the manager did offer us one appetizer to go). Having been advised she forgot our appetizers, she then offered multiple excuses ~ the restaurant is so busy tonight, I have so many tables, etc.), & then proceeded to basically ignore us until it was time to bring the check. We were also supposed to get four desserts (two of the dinners came with it), but we only got three. I still consider Varanese one of my favorite “special occasion” restaurants, but this experience was less than stellar.
We hadn't been to Varanese in a while. We chose this restaurant for a family dinner as there is a nice variety of entrees. The server was good and attentive. The music was a nice touch although it was a bit loud and a little hard to talk over. Everyone's entrees were well-received. Pasta with veggies got a big thumbs up from our 15 year old. My husband had the crab cake sandwich and it was really good, as always. My MIL had the salmon and enjoyed it. My FIL and I had the vegetarian plate. I love being able to choose from several side veggies to make up a meal. All of the items were very good....grilled asparagus, roasted Brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes, etc. We won't wait so long between visits!
We were a party of four celebrating one birthday. We had a great time, and the food was excellent. Jenny was our energetic and amazing server. Great hospitality!
We normally love Varanese and it has been one of our preferred dining spots. Unfortunately our most recent experience was less delicious than expected. Service was still very good. We ordered the soft shell crab special - a favorite delicacy. The crab was chewy rather than crisp and the dish had a "garnish" of sauce. It would have benefitted from more sauce.
The noise level is much too high. Will not return. Many other restaurants to chose.
Varanese is one of our favorite go to places. The quality of the food, taste, selection and service is always dependable. Their pork chop and salmon for $15.00 is a very good meal at a good price when they have it. We have visited several times on short notice after receiving the email announcing this special.
My favorite is the Beef Tips and Tortellini
The cocktail menu is very good and the Burnt Lemon Old Fashion was very enjoyable.
The live music adds nicely to the atmosphere although we chose to be seated away from the performers so we can talk more easily.
This was a lovely "landing place" for our Louisville weekend. Off the downtown scene, but with all the flair and fun of a downtown bistro. We loved the live music, cheese grits and the bread pudding. We'll be back on our next visit!
Excellent food. Wait staff very nice and ready to treat you with good care. Price was appropriate for the upscale atmosphere. We will be eating there again.
The food and appetizers were very good. Service was attentive and not overbearing. Noise level was loud enough that hearing jazz quartet was somewhat hindered.
