Vanessa's Bistro 2 Ratings and Reviews
We went on my birthday for Tapas Tuesday and started sitting inside. Although the atmosphere is pleasant, it was too loud for my dad with hearing aids. Fortunately, it was a lovely summer evening so we moved to a small outside table.
The service was efficient and friendly, the tapas delicious and beautifully presented, and our service Jessica was delightful.
Overall, it was a great experience. We'll be back.
Service was outstanding. I wish I had gotten our server's name because she deserves recognition. She was very attentive and answered all our questions. She even went into the kitchen to ask the chef what was the ingredients in the soba dish. I can't say the same for the hostess. We had RSVP at 7:00p and came at 6:30p. She sat us down and told us that the place will be extremely busy that night and that we had the table up until 8:00p. What...??? Very unprofessional and needs training.
Excellent, interesting food. Excellent service. Failings, my drink a Bloody Mary in a martini glass good but way too small and 2 deserts, one to small the other big but less than wonderful.
I will go again, happily, but not on a weekend night: noisy and, not necessarily a concomitant, hectic.
We were seated right away, and the service was great throughout. We ordered sweet potato fries as an appetizer. Nearly half of them were burned so badly that we couldn't eat them - they were solid black on the outside edges. We pointed it out to our server and she kindly removed them from our tab, but didn't offer to replace them. The ones that were edible were just okay. I ordered salmon and vegetarian pad thai, hubby ordered a 5-spice chicken banh mi. The food came out quickly. It was just *good* but not amazing. The chicken banh mi was the better of the two dishes, although the bread was so dry it literally crumbled to dust. The pad thai tasted more like ingredients than a finished dish. We ordered pear/ginger tart tatin for dessert. It was very tasty. Overall it wasn't terrible, but in Walnut Creek there are many other places I would try before coming back here.
My wife and I had a good meal at Vanessa's but like everything in Walnut Creek these days, it is trying to hard to be trendy. Small location, probably seating for 40 to 50 people maximum.
The food was good but not amazing. I had the Filet mignon with chicken breast and garlic noodles. Meat was cooked well and the flavors were good. My wife had the Pad Thai and the Calamari appetizer. Both were well seasoned. The food in general was good but just another restaurant trying to placate the growing group of elitists that now have taken over Walnut Creek. I miss the old Walnut Creek, where you could still get a good meal, without the attitudes.
The vermicelli salad was good and the service was good. Unfortunately, the soba noodles with seared ahi tuna was TOO Salty and we had ordered two dishes. We let them know but they did not replace or change. They just acknowledged it. We were unable to eat the noodles because they were too salty. It was a special occasion so unfortunately. The sweet potato fries were delicious with the dipping sauce. We have come to Vanessa's many times but disappointed about the high salt dishes.
I like Vanessa's for business lunches for several reasons. The basics are that the food is always excellent and the service is well paced. What makes this a good place for business is that is generally quiet so that one can carry on a conversation and not need to strain to hear or be understood. Many of Walnut Creek's better lunch places are very lively and it is hard to hear.
Went for Morher's Day. Been to Vanessa's before so I was disappointed in the food.
Shrimp doup, beef salad, fried calamari, tuna tartar, shrimp and garlic noodles, crab and fish dinner and a chicken sandwich.
We also ordered body Mary's which were served in a martini glass that I thought was weird.
Everything was Very very salty
Shrimp was really over cooked.
Soup was a tiny cup for $10
Service was great. Everything came out fast.
Probably won't go back again.
This is a great place for tasty foods, reasonable prices, and great service. The quality is consistent and if you don't like the food for any reason, they will take it away or replace it, or won't charge you at all. Michael and the crew are friendly and the service is quick.
Their tapas options are excellent and their Happy Hour is great. We have gone there multiple times.
We like this restaurant, but are tiring of the menu. We have to eat gluten-free, and the options are somewhat limited. With just a little effort so much more could be gluten-free. The staff is attentive and the service fast - sometimes TOO fast. Great cocktails, but there is no real bar space to hang out.
I dined at Vanessa's a few times but Tuesday night they were a bit off their game in the kitchen. Service was fabulous and attentive. Kept our beverages fresh and refilled water glasses constantly. The restaurant was warm and stuffy and the food was just so so. Not typical - I will give them another shot before finding an alternative choice.
We were met by a curt and inhospitable hostess. With every restaurant in WC bustling and thriving, we decided to go elsewhere. The three people we had contact with in 10 minutes were either indifferent or downright unfriendly. Perhaps it was an off night but I won't go back.
My recent visit to Vanessa's was the most pleasant as the sound level was significantly reduced. It appears that several tables have been removed close to the bar and the dining room wasn't full. In addition there were few men at the bar which contributed to the quieter atmosphere.
Food was excellent, as usual. This before-theater meal consisted of tapas only and all were wonderfully tasty, beautifully served and promptly made. The waitress was cheerful and sensitive to our needing to be at theater on a schedule. My friend and I enjoyed the experience and will return again.
