I made a reservation for Vanessa’s Bistro (2) for a friend’s birthday. We were seated upstairs and served right away. We all ordered the sangria which was delicious and various tapas to share. The server was friendly, attentive and and very helpful. The food came out quickly and was spaced out well so that our small space was not overcrowded. The food was great and the birthday girl definitely enjoyed herself. Would definitely recommend for the food and service.
This was our first time to Vanessa's Bistro. Our server, Andrea, was excellent. The meal was served quickly and everything came out as ordered. The duck confit lettuce wraps and pulled pork tacos were great. Filet Mignon and shrimp was a particular hit. We will definitely come back to Vanessa's soon.
We usually like the nurses and so we’re really disappointed. They couldn’t figure out the difference between Chardonnay and Pinot no war. We waited 45 minutes between courses and finally gave up on our last order and left. The waiter was nice but obviously overworked. They comped us a couple drinks but I rather would have had food.
Fantastic, tasty food. 2 out of 3 dishes knocked our socks off with flavor, texture, and deliciousness. We enjoyed the Shaking Filet Mignon Salad and Crispy Garlic Salt & Pepper Tofu tapa, not so much the Pan Seared Miso Soy & Honey Atlantic Salmon w/ Veggie Pad Thai (flavor off and mushy). Warm, trendy interior. Sound level when crowded is uncomfortable, we ended up shouting at each other by the end of the night and I wound up hoarse. Looking forward to visiting again and trying more dishes!
Four friends chose Vanessa's Bistro 2 for a quick bite before a performance. We ordered four dishes (tapas) to share and each one was delicious, with interesting flavors, well prepared and served hot. The staff was friendly, ready to offer advice when asked and happy to accommodate special requests - such as a sauce on the side or adding an extra portion in order to serve four. We loved every dish - fish tacos, pot stickers, pulled pork and fried shrimp - but the unexpected and really wonderful topper was the pear dessert. Oh my goodness. We plan to return soon.
The only minor drawbacks is that it is fairly noisy - which shouldn't be a surprise in a popular restaurant - and the table is pretty small for handling multiple dishes. The staff removed empty dishes quickly though.
I wish I had a time machine to go back in time and eat somewhere else.
The atmosphere is akin to a nightclub. The acoustics actually amplify the sounds. They play loud dance music over the speakers. Oh why? You have to shout to hear your dining companion who is right beside you. It is the loudest restaurant I've ever been to.
This alone made me want to leave. Oh but it only got worse from here.
My lychee martini tasted like pure vodka with a dash of fruit. It was not even sweet. Who drinks straight up vodka? Is this Russia?
The slow cooked pork tapa was delicious, but it didn't make up for my main course. I had the shrimp and scallop Thai coconut curry. The potatoes were noticeably undercooked and inedible. The scallops were "wet treated" and tasted like soap. Cheaper scallops will be treated with sodium tripolyphosphate, which has a noticeable taste, that is absolutely vile. Dry treated scallops are more expensive, but have no soapy taste and no chemicals added. Ugh. The shrimp was good, but didn't make up for my soapy scallops. The husband had the chicken and filet mignon garlic noodles. The entree skimped on the meat, but it was good tasting.
Skip this place. You'll thank me later.
My two friends and I ate at Vanessa’s Bistro before the theater. At 6:30 on a Thursday, the restaurant was very crowded and noisy. Fortunately with our open table reservation, we were seated upstairs which was much quieter. The food was excellent. We shared 3 different dishes and each was tasty and well prepared. We would definitely go back but only if we could be seated in the more quiet area.
Good food as always. Portion is a bit small. Favorite is the duck veggie wrap and chicken wings.
Chopsticks were not thoroughly clean as it still had food left from prior use. Recall last time the water glass was also not clean. Suggest restaurant to step up dish washing standards.
Excellent as always. We have been going to this Retaurant for a while, sometimes couple of times a week. This is the only restaurant in Walnut Creek that we found to be very good all around, reasonable , consistent , with friendly staff. Thanks to Micheal for managing the operation.
Vanessa's recently did a minor makeover to the dining room. The changes are amazing! New vibe, new feel, same great food! I love the new Lounge area, for casual eating or just drinking, perfect for big groups. The service was great as always, will be back soon! The food was fantastic too!
We went on my birthday for Tapas Tuesday and started sitting inside. Although the atmosphere is pleasant, it was too loud for my dad with hearing aids. Fortunately, it was a lovely summer evening so we moved to a small outside table.
The service was efficient and friendly, the tapas delicious and beautifully presented, and our service Jessica was delightful.
Overall, it was a great experience. We'll be back.
Service was outstanding. I wish I had gotten our server's name because she deserves recognition. She was very attentive and answered all our questions. She even went into the kitchen to ask the chef what was the ingredients in the soba dish. I can't say the same for the hostess. We had RSVP at 7:00p and came at 6:30p. She sat us down and told us that the place will be extremely busy that night and that we had the table up until 8:00p. What...??? Very unprofessional and needs training.
Excellent, interesting food. Excellent service. Failings, my drink a Bloody Mary in a martini glass good but way too small and 2 deserts, one to small the other big but less than wonderful.
I will go again, happily, but not on a weekend night: noisy and, not necessarily a concomitant, hectic.
We were seated right away, and the service was great throughout. We ordered sweet potato fries as an appetizer. Nearly half of them were burned so badly that we couldn't eat them - they were solid black on the outside edges. We pointed it out to our server and she kindly removed them from our tab, but didn't offer to replace them. The ones that were edible were just okay. I ordered salmon and vegetarian pad thai, hubby ordered a 5-spice chicken banh mi. The food came out quickly. It was just *good* but not amazing. The chicken banh mi was the better of the two dishes, although the bread was so dry it literally crumbled to dust. The pad thai tasted more like ingredients than a finished dish. We ordered pear/ginger tart tatin for dessert. It was very tasty. Overall it wasn't terrible, but in Walnut Creek there are many other places I would try before coming back here.
