About Vallozzi's Pittsburgh
Family owned and operated for over 50 years, following in the footsteps of Vallozzi's Classic Restaurant in Greensburg, PA. We use fresh, quality ingredients, as well as Italian meats cheeses flown in from Italy every week. Our wine list is extensive, with many wines available by the glass and by the bottle. We can host your intimate date, family dinner, business meetings, or larger parties in our banquet room. Or come enjoy a specially made cocktail in our bar area and a small bite.
Vallozzi's started over 50 years ago when Helen Vallozzi was selling homemade pastas out of her home. Helen opened a take out restaurant in Latrobe, PA a few years later where her popularity exploded. In 1977, Ernie Vallozzi moved his mothers location to Greensburg where it is still open and operating today. In 2012 Ernie's son Julian expanded the tradition in to downtown Pittsburgh.

Vallozzi's Pittsburgh Ratings and Reviews
Disappointing evening at Vallozzi. I was really looking forward to checking this place out, but the two person tables were practically on top of each other and the Osso Bucco was sub-par - super fatty and had very little flavor. For a $200 meal, I expected a higher quality meal.
We’ve had -a terrible experience there today. The hostess was rude, we wait for our table at the bar but no one told us when the table was ready & my pasta was VERY spicy. I asked to change it, but not much was done. My husband and I do not recommend this place.
My husband and I were visiting Pittsburgh and were thrilled with our meal at Vallozzis. The branzino was wonderfully moist and delicious. My husband had the raviolo and was equally happy. The restaurant entrance was decorated for the holidays and very inviting. Wine selection was extensive. A very special place to dine in Pittsburgh !!
We have been to Vallozzi's on 2-3 other occasions and the food was outstanding,. This visit was disappointing. Hubby had the bolognaise pasta and he said it was very ordinary. My fish however was good. When hubby asked for salt and pepper waitress brought 2 pepper shakers.
Food is always good here, the service was off this particular night. Although the waiter was very friendly and attentive, the level of service and presentation was off. Awkward getting seated, fresh parmesan was sprayed all over the table when served and felt a bit rushed. There was one table where a woman was loud and using obscenities (not the restaurants fault). But from the last time where everything was first class (and the pricing suggests everything should be), this time left me wanting.
Busy night ended up sitting at mozzarella bar and very happy we did. Food was fabulous. Cheeses were great. Beef carpaccio was outstanding. Wines by the glass were varied. Loved that scotch on the rocks has the option of one large cube of ice or regular cubes Service with Lauren was spot on! Usualally dining in NYC and Philly, Vallozzi would rival any restaurant in either city.
The food was varied and delicious. The setting is beautiful. Service was a bit slow (had to ask for bread and no refill of the bread basket was offered). The one big downside to the restaurant was a very overpriced wine list, with very limited by the glass options - and those turned out to be mediocre. We’ve been to excellent top restaurants in many large cities and have always been able to get much better wine for less ($15, even $18, for a glass of wine is crazy, especially when the wine quality turned out to be mediocre at best).
Delicious food, beautifully presented. Service was very good, just a drop below excellent. That would not really be a drawback. However, the acoustics were not so good, other diners were pretty loud and the tables are wide - it was difficult to hear my dining companion. We overcame it by speaking loudly, but that did not make it easy to have a business conversation! This is a great place for a meal, but don't plan to have a quiet/secret/romantic conversation.
Went here for the fist time and was very impressed. It's well decorated with several seating areas, including a cool bar area. We had the Mozzarella buffalo for an appetizer and it was delicious. For my entrée I had the Raviolo and my date had the Bolognese. Both were simply fantastic. I can't wait to go back and explore more of the menu!
This was our first visit to Vallozzi's. To say the least, I was extremely disappointed in the overall experience and especially the service. We had reservations for 7:30 PM on a Saturday night and checked in. By 7:55 PM, we still were not seated. When I approached the hostess, the previous hostess had checked the wrong party in. The hostess immediately apologized and proceeded to seat us. At first, they attempted to "wedge" us into a small table up against the wall. When I asked if there was something else, she kindly obliged and found us seating in the bar area. We sat down and the waitress came over. She took our drink order and brought water. She also stated, "You guys need to be ready with your food order when I get back; that's when it proceeded to go down hill. After 23 minutes, she finally brought our cocktails over. Since it was our first visit, we asked questions about our options. After not being too enthusiastic with our questions, she finally said, "You guys should just get what you want." Nice, eh? Anyway, we placed our order and then began to wait again. She did bring our appetizers and salad at the same time. We ordered a second cocktail and asked if she could refill our water. Our salad and appetizers were good; however, no water refill. Our dinner was brought to the table and it was very good. At this point, we still hadn't received refills on our water, as well as our cocktails were empty. At no point did the waitress even offer to get refills on ANY of our beverages. We were not even asked if we wanted dessert. Very sad that a nice restaurant has terrible service.
We went to Valozzi's for our second anniversary. The service was out of this world. They did a great job and also made some excellent recommendations when we ordered a bottle of wine that they were out of. The restaurant was busier than expected but they kept things moving with about average wait times. Our only gripe was that the ginger-carrot soup with shrimp ceviche was not really something that appealed to either of our palettes and the server didn't seem inclined to attempt to remedy it. We sent it back with must a few bites taken of each. The soup had an overwhelmingly ginger flavor - to the point that it was off-putting.
Save for the soup. Valozzi's was a really excellent experience. The pasta and the sauce was amazing and we will return.
Vallozzi's is a nice restaurant close to the theater district. Our meals were good, but nothing special. My salmon could have been cooked a little more, since I really do not like my fish rare. The crunchy risotto ball which accompanied my salmon was bland. My husband had the short ribs which was a much better choice. My drink, an amaretto sour, was not to my liking and the tiramisu was just okay. I was expecting more from an upscale restaurant like Vallozzi's.
Spend an hour or so at the bar area for their happy hour. Great cocktails! Wonderful house wine deals! Moved to the dining area for dinner. Crab cake entree was absolutely incredible - the best I've ever had! The paparadelle bolognese was great as well. Very hearty sauce and the homemade pasta was great as well. Fairly pricy, but great for a special occasion or a night out! Will absolutely be back!
We had a very late reservation but we were greeted very kindly and professionally by both the hostesses and server. Our service was prompt, professional, and friendly. The food as usual was delicious and the menu was seasonal with many wonderful selections. We both had the caprese salad that had grilled peppers instead of tomatoes. It was a delightful and delicious change and one I will be trying to replicate at home!!
