I wasn’t sure about this restaurant but based on both OpenTable and yelp it was rated well. Boy, were we impressed! It started with having a fantastic server who made great recommendations for dinner as well as wine. Everyone in our group loved their meals. I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant when you are in downtown Pittsburgh.
Authentic Italian food in the heart of the city. Simply fabulous our service was impeccable. We were seated with consideration of social distance. The charcuterie board was artisanal with specialty meats pate and crostini! Authentic Italian food with only the freshest farm to table ingredients. A definite foodie stop in Pittsburgh! Dined here due to their support of Leaving Legacies Foundation. Businesses that give back are the most important businesses to support!
This is the second time I’ve been to Vallozzi’s this year. Whenever we come to Pittsburgh and want a great Italian meal we come here. The wine selection is excellent. The service is great and they don’t pressure you to rush. They let you take your time. The lemon cello reminds me of Rome. I think Vallozzi’s is the best restaurant in Pittsburgh I’ve been to in all my years of visiting for work and fun.
Service started unengaged and tepid, but perked up enormously once we showed interest in the food and especially the wine list. They really do care. My guess
Is they are worn out by customers who do not.
The gnocchi was very good. The veal was mediocre. Portions were huge.
The wine list is really impressive, especially for Pittsburgh, especially if you’re interested in trying Italian fine wines that NO ONE else in PA will have.
Service was great and very helpful on making a decision on several pics for food and apps.
Service and food were excellent! Loved the burrata appetizer.
Anthony was great and food was DELICIOUS!
Great ambience with fantastic food. One of Pittsburgh’s best
Wonderful dining experience and very quiet so conversation could be had.
There's plenty that's good about Vallozzi's, and some areas that need improvement. This review will be about the things that need improvement.
a. The "environment" in general. When you walk in the front door, you can smell the age of the place, and not in a good way. I don't know if they need better air filters, or to clean the ones they have, or to have the carpeting replaced... but it's almost a musty odor that just lingers in the air until your nose gets accustomed to it.
b. Speaking of environment, bring a flashlight with you. The place is so dark that it's borderline dangerous. What worries me more than safety, though, is what the dim lighting is trying to hide. Again, I'm guessing the place hasn't had a good deep-cleaning since they opened in 2012.
c. The placement of the bathroom (with no door) right/next/to the kitchen just seems like a bad interior design choice from a hygiene and safety perspective.
I'll write another review with the positive aspects.
Stephanie was great!
Friends in town. Wanted good Italian. I said I know the place. They took a large reservation and the service was great. The pappardelle bolognese is out of this world and the meatballs are terrific. Highly recommend dining here.
Wonderful setting from beginning to end, food cooked perfectly with a ton of flavor. Cant wait to come back!
A great dinner for both of us. We had as entree's the veal parmesan and the seafood special (moonfish?). Both entree's were ample in portion and very well presented. We had a lot of veal to take home. We shared a Caesar salad and a cheesecake dessert. Both portions were ample and delicious.
Our group of 8 had a great experience at a high top in the bar area. Food was excellent. Service attentive and friendly. Everyone loved their meal. Good wines. Not so good Manhattan (too sugary).
Great place. Food was good, sat at the bar and the service was excellent.
Server got meals wrong , one meal was not good, was just an ok dining experience
I was disappointed in the veal parmigiana. They changed it from their previous traditional recipe. We won’t be going back until they change back to their original recipe.
This was our first experience dining at Valozzi’s.
Excellent food , service and value. We’ll come back again.
Room we were seated in was very dark. Pasta was way too salty.
Food was very good, but it appears the menu has less diversity than previous visits. Staff was nice and attentive. Wines very expensive and were drinks.
We were confused as open table would not let us make a reservation until later but the restaurant seemed empty when we got there. I was then disappointed there was no carbonara as every menu online shows it, this was why I chose this restaurant specifically. I got the tuna and farro risotto instead which was very good. The chicken parm w/ spaghetti was under seasoned but was disappointing but Overall it was a very nice dinner.
This was our second time dining at Vallizzis and we chose it for a special occasion. It was everything we thought it would be. Great martinis, appetizer snd dinner! We would highly recommend!
Excellent service. Food was prepared well and the seafood special, Tuna, was excellent both flavor and presentation. Had our grandchildren with us, and the staff and chef prepared a dish for each just as they requested.
Always a great place, hadn't been in a few years as a result of the pandemic but still the same. They always switch up the menu with a nice selection so there's always something new.
apps & desserts were so so good.
Our food was one of the best Italian meals we have ever had...seriously! Our server was delightful. The noise level and ambiance were wonderful. The lower lighting made for a very romantic setting. If we are ever back in Pittsburgh we will definitely have another dinner at Vallozzi"s!
Great place with a great selection. Will go back again!
We have always really enjoyed the whole experience here. First time back since Covid. They are as good as we remembered. Hoping to see you again before the end of summer.
Food was amazing, environment was great, service could of been better for the price.
We had a great meal here. I got the bucatini and it was awesome. Great time, will stop by next time in town.
Always perfect and always exactly what I was hoping for...
Great service. Great food.
Warm, friendly atmosphere. A little noisy. Server attentive and helpful. The Pappardelle Bolognese was excellent!
Great experience as always!
The food was fantastic! Beautiful restaurant, great service. Highly recommend the brick chicken, raviolis and stuffed chicken parmigiana with homemade spaghetti!
The service was terrible. Fake smiles and they literally just dropped our drinks and then the food and never checked back. Basically it was just about getting our money and nothing else. Been there many times before but will not go again
The salmon was overcooked. The tiramisu was dry.. yes dry. The Manhattan drinks were good. Bricked chicken was good. Nothing special.
Excellent food, excellent service.
Wonderful dining experience.
Stuff chicken parmigiana was good. Veal parmigiana dry and tough. Lot of spinach on both. Didn’t see or taste “red sauce” on veal unless that was the small pieces of tomato. Lot of dry risotto.
Beer was cold and didn’t taste like cooked spinach.
