Vallozzi's started over 50 years ago when Helen Vallozzi was selling homemade pastas out of her home. Helen opened a take out restaurant in Latrobe, PA a few years later where her popularity exploded. In 1977, Ernie Vallozzi moved his mothers location to Greensburg where it is still open and operating today. In 2012 Ernie's son Julian expanded the tradition in to downtown Pittsburgh.
Great. Very tasty
We have dined at Vallozzi's many times for dinner and lunch but found Mothers day to be quite a disappointment. Food quality was very average, service was just OK at best. we will go back given many previous positive experiences hoping it was a one time lapse.
Nice atmosphere. Good Food. Was a little loud and the waiter was not very friendly.
Vallozzis does hit home runs ... but their meals are grand slams
Delicious homemade authentic Italian food, drinks were wonderful, great service, pleasant atmosphere...would definitely recommend!
Overall, a disappointment. The Sicilian pizza was tasteless with a dry pastry-like crust. The pasta primavera was also tasteless. The arugula salad was fresh and presented well but the combination of flavors didn’t work. The Caesar was overdressed. The server was very friendly and efficient. Unfortunately the food fell short.
Tables were too close, the food wasn’t very good. Ordered a bread and oil tasting for an app and the bread was cold and hard and there were only 5 small bite size pieces for it being 15$. Seafood risotto seemed promising but tasted like the white wine wasn’t cooked out of it and just dumped into the plate, the lobster and shrimp were delicious but the risotto was hard and left an extremely bitter taste in the mouth I couldn’t finish. Very disappointed
Great evening to celebrate Pitt graduation!
Absolutely amazing food!! Definitely want to go here again. Definitely a fancier restaurant.
Great glasses of red wine by the glass. Also, the pizza crust is outstanding along with the sauce.
Family celebration for graduation. Service was excellent and everyone loved their entrees, appetizers and dessert. Excellent wine menu. Perfect way to complete our day.
7 of 8 meals came out cold. Spoke to asst manager and she said she would send over manager soon. 10 minutes later asked our server and he said he would get manager. Server came back 15 minutes later asking about dessert and manger hadn’t been there yet. Told him that we needed to see manager. Took a total of 25 minutes to get manager to come and see us even though you could see him walking all around restaurant doing nothing. When he did come over and explained how the chicken parm was not cooked all the way through for example he did not show any remorse. He actually acted insulted. Said would have to speak to owner. When he came back and explained what owner decided he still did not apologize. When he finally brought the bill over just just threw it on the table like a frisbee and said here it is. Never showed any remorse for the bad food, nor lack of response by the entire staff. Would not recommend this place to anyone.
Service was very slow at lunch, took almost 2 hours for lunch, service was very poor never acknowledged the time it took for us to get our food. Once we ordered, we did not receive our food until almost one hour afterwards. Once the food arrived, my food was cold and the portion was VERY SMALL. I ordered the IL QUADRIFOGLIO! I received 3 small and cold shrimp, 3 small and cold raviloi and a tiny ceasar salad. I was still hungry when we finally left! Not sure if I will be returning.
Always good food, good service and quiet atmosphere.
they offered a new combo menu choice which was a big hit
The food was simply not very good. The fish was nicely cooked on both dishes, but the rest of the dish was just poorly executed. It looked like they were trying too hard. Simplicity would have been a better approach. The dessert had to be sent back. It was to frozen to eat even after being in the table for 10 minutes. Sorry- it is a lovely restaurant in a fabulous location. Disappointed.
Overall good place to before a show. We stopped after the bar afterwards since we had time before the show. Bartenders are friendly and attentive
Spectacular food. The server, Sam, is knowledgable and very attentive. The hostess accommodating. The wine list extensive and inspiring. A beautiful experience.
Always a downtown Pittsburgh favorite! This restaurant never disappoints. Food, service and ambiance are always top notch.
The waiter did not ask me how I wanted my salmon cooked. As a result, it was raw on the inside. I kept it and ate almost all of it, but I wasn't happy. I di not send it back because we were with a group and on our way to a performance.
Very sad that waiter did not take the time to walk on my side of the table and get my order. It was loud in restaurant so waiter should have been careful and pay more attention to me by walking to other side of table to get my oder. He was just focused on the other members of my party who all ordered the same thing.
A family and friends favorite! Food and dining experience were excellent as was the service. We will be returning soon. Keep up the attention to detail - it is appreciated.
We had an outstanding time. Everything was well done.
I like the place and the food, but it does get loud in there around lunch/dinner time.
During our first weekend visit to Pittsburgh, we enjoyed our dinner at Vallozzi with a family friend for an early Saturday dinner. The menu was comprehensive enough for everyone in a party of five to have at least a couple of options to consider. The server was knowledgeable to help us decide on final choices and everyone ended up enjoying their dish. If you are not a chain restaurant kinda person and want to experience a little bit upscale dining option in downtown Pittsburgh, with your family or friends, I suggest you give Vallozzi a try.
Vallozzis was good, but overpriced for the quality of the food.
Great night, fast service on our way to game
The food selection was outstanding and service excellent. The place was busy even for a Wednesday night with many work groups in. Second time there and will definitely go back.
Great place to meet when you want to be able to carry on a conversation over great wine and food. Ambience is amazing. Service is excellent.
Have been here numerous times and really like it. This time, the restaurant was pretty empty so our food came quickly. They closed the bar at 10pm (on a Saturday) so it wasn't like we could even stick around with our friends for another drink after dinner. That was a bit disappointing but an overall good experience. The meat and mozzarella bar items are always great, love the burrata. My hubby thought the carbonara was a bit bland.
I have been to Vallozzi's several times since it opened its Pittsburgh location---for both personal and work functions, and this was the most disappointing meal I've had at any restaurant. The gnudi were tasteless, and the octopus in the dish had the consistency of a rubber band. Octopus is often chewy, but this was inedible---and there was a lot of it in this dish. This was a pre-show dinner with a friend who had never been to Vallozzi's, and fortunately, she liked her ravioli. We both ordered Tiramisu, and it was OK, but not the best I've had.
Another issue with Vallozzi's is the seating. We were very close to the couple next to us, and felt like we were in on their conversation. I am attending another show this summer, and my pre-show dinner will not be Vallozzi's. Fortunately, Pittsburgh has many great restaurants, and they offer better tasting food.
Very good wine and spirit list. I had Veal Marsala that was perfect. I will definitely be back
We had an exceptional dinner at Valozzi's. The food was innovative and delicious. I particularly enjoyed the swordfish with polenta and caponata. And we were able to converse with our friends with ease since the tables are well spaced and the noise doesn't carry. We highly recommend this restaurant!
Food was awful. Clam chowder? More like clam soup? Sauce tastes like chef Boyardee
The food was excellent, the service was on point and the environment is very relaxing. Love this place. Will definitely go again, soon.
Vallozzi's never lets you down. Always excellent.
From the warm greeting to the cheerful goodbye and everything in between.
A well-rounded menu. Something for everyone.
Delicious Italian cuisine.
love the food prefer the bar ambiance but the dining room is acceptable
Excellent food! Great service!
Food was awesome!!!!! Service was excellent from choices to meeting our time constraints!
The four course lunch was so delicious and our server made a great recommendation of the polenta with sausage ragout. One of my four courses came out a little cold, but otherwise the meal was wonderful!
