The Italian food was amazing. Four of us each had something different and the fish and seafood Risotto were amazing. Best part was that our waitress was fantastic. I wish I remembered her name, but we all thought she was very attentive.
Birthday celebration with my girlfriend on Saturday 05/19/2018. I had the swordfish and she had the salmon. Both entrees were delicious as was the grilled octopus appetizer and Caprese salad. We ended with the Tiramisu and french press coffee The service by Melissa W was simply fantastic. We had a wonderful evening.
Excellent service .. dinner was superb !
Unique , homemade dishes !
Excellent meal. The bread pudding is the best I’ve ever tasted.
Quite good as usual - normal stop for us when visiting the kids at Carnegie Mellon.
I was meeting a colleague for a business lunch, and left my name and my colleague's name with the hostess so that she could direct my companion to me (she only has a brief lunch break). After 20 minutes, I found my colleague at the hostess station waiting - she was never told that I was there. The hostess never apologized, never made a note and we had to rush through lunch in less than 30 minutes. It wasn't busy so that can't be an excuse. For a place that gets a lot of business lunch traffic, they need to get their act together.
The service was prompt and not pushy. The wine was nice. The ravioli was good although I think it would be just as good without the egg. The portions were large and the parma salad we split was generous and delicious.
I had Egg Plant Parmesean. Portion was generous, good taste but warm, not hot.
Love Valozzis. Right dine there at least twice a
Month. I take clients there for lunch or dinner on a weekly basis. The service is out of this world.
The staff was very friendly and nice. The food was out of this world - I would definitely recommend the ravioli with short ribs, which melted in your mouth. A great evening out.
First time there but NOT the last. Outstanding restaurant. Crab cake was to die for....
Staff was very friendly and very attentive to our needs. The food was excellent. I got the shrimp Diablo and it was done perfect, spicy and a large portion. My wife got the chicken breast and she liked it but thought it was a little spicy.
Great atmosphere, excellent service, delicious food and beautifully designed interior.
Great place for lunch - exceptional all around!
Excellent atmosphere. Food and wait staff was excellent. Highly recommend. It's definitely a nice place especially before a show.
Garlic is a great spice but too often it is over used. One example is the bolognese sauce served on pappardelle I had this past weekend during a visit in Pittsburgh. A lighter sauce that would be a decent garlic meat sauce but definitely not a bolognese. Swordfish with grapefruit was very good. If you love a good bolognese - skip the one here. If you love garlic spaghetti sauce with meat then order it.
The "special occasion" was a pre-Pittsburgh Marathon carb load, and boy did they deliver! The fried risotto and cheese was out of this world (and though listed as an appetizer, definitely big enough for a main). I had the gnocchi for a main dish and this likewise did not disappoint. The service was excellent and ambiance just right. And since I PR'd the next day in my race, I'd say that I made the right choice!
Stephanie was outstanding as usual ! Love sitting at the Cheese monger bar
Absolutely excellent. The new menu is one of the very best in Pittsburgh; the halibut is one of the finest fish dishes I have ever enjoyed in any fine dining restaurant
We really enjoyed the appetizers and entrees we ordered. The atmosphere was really nice. We will recommend this place to others.
We only wish they would not have sat us so tight next to two other couples as it was tough to have any private conversation. We put a special note on our Open Table reservation that it was our 19th anniversary and assumed they would find a somewhat private table for us. Not the end of the world but it would have made our visit a 5 out of 5 instead of a 4 out of 5.
We scheduled an impromptu dinner for our anniversary no more than an hour before our reservation time because we both work and our anniversary fell on weekday we decided to celebrate that weekend. We did notate that we were coming in for our anniversary. Though the one gentleman who we believe was the manager was courteous, our experience just was mediocre at best. We have been to the Greensburg location a few times before..this is the first to this location because we recently moved downtown within walking distance of the restaurant. We both ordered a pasta and a Caesar salad each. Our server was friendly to start but almost non existent midway through. The Caesar salad was....odd. It appeared the chef was just trying to put creativity in where it was unnecessary and uncalled for. It was what I can best describe as a deconstructed Caesar romaine wedge. There was a whole little anchovy on the plate which was unexpected and to me, unappetizing. The romaine was more wilted for some reason making it impossible to cut and fork without extreme and messy effort. I got the eggplant pasta dish which sounded great because of the garlic and other flavorful ingredients but it wasn't flavorful and the pasta ruined it for me because it was more undedone than al dente. I ended up eating what my husband didn't of his. He got the gnocchi and it was flavorful. I enjoyed that more but it was still about 80 percent sausage and 20 percent gnocchi which was disappointing. No-one made mention of our anniversary which was also disappointing because we had a delightful time in Greensburg for our 1st anniversary and this was our 8th anniversary we decided to give Pittsburgh a try. Overall I can't say that this is a bad restaurant. It is just nowhere as good as we anticipated and the experience overall, for us, was just mediocre. We probably won't return though I was curious about the crab cakes. Maybe just bad menu choices on this occasion.
This was a surprisingly disappointing experience. The wait staff were distracted and dismissive. The food was mediocre, not at all what we expected from the extensive description of the history of the business. Our server seemed mildly annoyed at our presence and, after spending over $200 on a quick dinner (under and hour from start to finish) nobody bother to speak to us as we left. We were truly surprised at the disinterest of the entire staff.
I would have given 5 stars except that the hostess led us to the worst table in the place...right in the middle of the server traffic lane. Why, when a party has a reservation (at least 10 days ahead of time) and there are several other vacant tables, would your first impulse be to give a mature, well dressed party of 4 an undesirable table?! So, I asked for a better table and she did comply. But, that kind of thing sticks in your memory of a place. So, on to the good stuff...
The ambiance was of Italy (our favorite country)..very pretty. The menu was interesting and diverse. I had the beef short ribs and they were the best I've had anywhere. The only complaint any of us had was that my friends' meatballs and Brussel sprout were both too salty. I had to agree. Overall, though, we agreed that we really enjoyed the food. The service was excellent ...very attentive (but, not too much) and friendly. Would love to go back next time I am in my hometown of Pittsburgh.
the crab cakes were outstanding - not loaded with bread like a lot of 'typical' ones you get at most restaurants. Nice wine list with some interesting choices & absolutely the best Amari selection in the city
our grandson and his best girlfriend visited for the weekend and we enjoyed a special evening that included dinner at Valozzis. dinner was great.
An average dinner and experience. Our server did his best to make up for a small issue with my entree. The caramels and chocolate truffles were amazing! Our first time and I'm it's sure we will return.
Fabulous halibut special! 12 our of 10!
It had been quite a while since my last visit to this Downtown spot. I recalled feeling that it was good but not great on past visits. This time I was more positive. We enjoyed a couple of appetizers, and I had a wonderful, creative house salad. I then enjoyed a huge bowl of pasta Bolognese. (It is time to point out that they need to update their web site because several things indicated on the web site were not offered on the menu, although I do realize that menus can change on occasion.)
Others enjoyed mussels, gnocchi and a veal with sausage and potatoes dish that looked incredible. Service was attentive -- almost a little bit overly so.
One trouble spot: two guests of mine arrived before I did and were told that there was no reservation in my name and that I "must have made an error and booked the wrong location." This was inappropriate. I most certainly made the correct reservation AND even received a confirming call that afternoon!!! Plus, it was on Open Table.
Valozzi's is a lovely restaurant on Fifth Avenue downtown Pittsburgh. The decor is very sophisticated and food and service are excellent. I had grilled salmon with parmesan risotto cake and julienne apples and other veggies on top. The dish came stacked which was a very creative presentation and each part of it was delicious. We are planning to have the rehearsal dinner for my daughter's wedding at Valozzi's and are looking forward to seeing what they can do with a larger group. I am confident it will be great!
Great meal with better service. All staff members were super friendly and assisted in any way possible. Both meals and appetizers were amazing. Highly recommend this restaurant.
A nice evening catchup with an old friend - it got a bit noisy but food was spectacular as always!
Theater evening. Good but the a la cart menu was very expensive. If I'm paying those prices, I expect food to be out of this world. And it was mediocre at best.
Meal was fantastic. The crab cakes were 5 star sand the person who got the steak said I was truly the best steak she ever had. Desserts were great
Best crab cakes in Pittsburgh!! Love the decor and menu. The server seemed a little flustered and made a number of mistakes. Otherwise it was quite good.
We dined in the bar.Service and food were excellent.
Food was excellent. Music was very inappropriate and distracted from the otherwise good experience. When asked about our experience, i said the music wasn 't right. The response was "well our staff gets tired of hearimg the same music." Really?
Pumpkin mascarpone ravioli and branzino were great. Service was solid without being intrusive.
Six of us ate here on Saint Patrick’s Day. We had mussels and shishito peppers as a starter. They were both very good. The Veal Parmigiana and Shrimp Diavola were also very tasty. The pasta was perfect. We will definitely return.
I had the special of the day which was Halibut...wonderfully prepared. My wife had the Pasta Norma, reminded her of our trip to Sicily. Our server was attentive, pleasant. Asked us if we were attending a function that eve. We were.. so she made sure we were served in a timely manner. We were not rushed. The noise level was fine. The old fashion was done just right.
