Vallozzi's started over 50 years ago when Helen Vallozzi was selling homemade pastas out of her home. Helen opened a take out restaurant in Latrobe, PA a few years later where her popularity exploded. In 1977, Ernie Vallozzi moved his mothers location to Greensburg where it is still open and operating today. In 2012 Ernie's son Julian expanded the tradition in to downtown Pittsburgh.
Went for Restaurant week with six people - many of the table ordered the pick three menu and LOVED the choices and the smaller portions this is on the menu all the time. Very nice selection on the regular menu for lunch. Highly recommend!
Always a great dining experience at Vallozzi's
Our waitstaff Melissa was fantastic. She recommended an appetizer and the crab cakes both were delicious. We were on our way to see Hamilton, we got out in plenty of time and the front staff took a great picture of my hubby and I in front of the plates, thank you Dallas.
Meals were mediocre at best. Noise level was horrible, even with my hearing aids turned off. This was a second chance visit, we won't be back.
Overall it was good. I may go back to try a different dish. I don't know yet. My dessert was delicious! Our server was very friendly, but the service seemed a little slower than I thought it would be. The biggest downfall is that it's way overpriced. I had the salmon (no app or salad), 2 drinks, and dessert. By the time I left I had spent $80 on just myself. I get that it's a higher end restaurant, but, for me, it's a little too much.
Another great meal at Vallozzi's! We can't seem to allow ourselves to order anything but the grilled octopus as an appetizer, because it is sooooo good. My dining partner got the wild boar lasagna and I had the gnudi--both were delicious--lots of flavor and the gnudi had enough spice to make it zippy without overpowering the other ingredients. Portion sizes are generous. Coffee was much better than Starbucks. Wine is pretty pricey--they could come down on those prices or offer some decent options in the 30-40 dollar price range (I know they're out there!) Service was friendly, refreshingly unpretentious and timely. Fantastic family-owned restaurant that out does the other trendy "Blank & Blank" options downtown.
The ambiance is the best aspect.. We found the food to be a bit on the bland side which is odd given the price of the entree. Only three parts to the service: Order, food delivery, and check...the service was a bit underwhelming
Excellent meal. Good service but need more moderately priced wines.
Going to the theater after dinner. Nice “theater menu”. Efficient service. The salmon was prepared correct...the cauliflower soup was great....and the bread pudding (suggested by our server) was the best! Get the bread pudding. Got out in plenty of time to walk to the performance. Thanks for a nice meal!
Food was excellent and service was even better. What more can you ask for?
Great service. Delicious food!
Excellent food and service
Sadly, we did not have a good experience. We were the first to be seated but waited more than an hour for our entrees. No explanation provided by our waiter. Food was bland and the vegetables were inedible. Very disappointing for an “Italian” restaurant.
Outstanding antipastas and great food. Service and value rated lower because I think paying $30 for a corkage fee is ridiculous. $15-$20 is fair for two clean glasses. I'm already buying antipasta, dinner, and dessert...then tack on another $30 for stemware!! Any bottle service over $20 is just wrong.
Waitress ruined our New Years. And there is no way that you guys don’t see that in her. She was like that with every table. Terrible. Literally ruined the evening but oh well.
Ricotta cheese tasting was delicious and different. Crab cakes were excellent. Likely the best o have ever had. Papperdelle was very good, not the best, but good.
Bar area is very nice.
Will go again.
Surprisingly disappointing. Extremely slow and Inattentive service. Very salty short rib and no seasoning at all on apps. Not at all what we expected or what we’ve experienced in the past.
Authentic and delicious cuisine served by extremely personable and efficient staff
Food was not good and was very expensive which we wouldn’t have minded for good food. Service was good and waitress was pleasant but will not be returning.
Holiday get together.
Average at best. Service is not very good at all.
Over rated and well over priced. Service was not what I would expect for a restaurant like this. Much better food and value available.
Excellent entrees. Refined dining room. Accommodating and efficient staff (party of 6 in and out in one hour due to a theater engagement, with drinks, one appetizer, three salads and entrees). Would have loved to linger for desserts and coffee (which, I should say, would have pushed the tab well above $400).
Food was great! Tons of space to enjoy dinner for our Christmas gift exchange. Our waiter Anthony was awesome and made the experience THAT much greater! When we go back, we certainly will ask for him specifically!
Food and service was amazing.. I had the carbonara
It was the best I’ve ever had
They appeared to be short-staffed for the lunch hour and the wait staff and kitchen were a bit slower than usual. The food was excellent, however. The "quad" of the parma salad, mini crab cake, gnocchi and daily dessert were very tasty and nicely plated. As a side note, chairs appear to be quite worn and should be re-upholstered.
The service was almost as bad as the food.
That is the best I can say without saying things that make me appear to be an old grouch.
our server, Jen, was friendly and helpful Alan, the manager is attentive and runs a great restaurant !
Food and service were excellent. Gnocci was back on the menu.
Julian and family will take care of you like you are family. Consistent quality of food and service, always a great experience.
Excellent food and service! We were seated right away in a wonderful location of the restaurant
The food was excellent! The chef was very accommodating with special requests! The only suggestion to the restaurant would be to block off the entrance some how to the rest of the restaurant. Every time the door opened, an extremely cool breeze came right through to our table.
Our waiter was very attentive and offered great menu suggestions. Pork chop was delicious as well as the risotto di mare!
I took some of my staff to Vallozzi’s for a holiday lunch. We all enjoyed the food very much. The server was attentive, but not intrusive. Our meal came timely. The atmosphere of the restaurant was conducive to talking and visiting.
Food is excellent, from the appetizer ( fried risotto balls), to the salad, (Parma, with crumbled crisp prosciutto), to the veal parm.
Great entree's, wine and appetizers! Out of town birthday celebration, recommended by locals-great find.
I have gone to Vallozzi's in Greensburg many times, but never to this much newer downtown Pittsburgh location. I have been eager to try it for years, and I was not disappointed!!
I thought the menu was a good mix of traditional Italian fare and more modern renditions. The service was excellent, the wine selection good and the dishes well prepared. The calamari was light, well seasoned and the sauce was a refreshing departure from typical Italian marinara. The beat salad was innovative, tasty and well presented. The seafood risotto was light, well balanced and the seafood cooked perfectly. My wife thought her scallops were a bit rubbery, but I had one and thought they were fine.
I wish we could have stayed for an Amaro and some dessert, but we were going to a concert. We will definitely go again.
The food and severvice was excellent. They where very busy with party's and but was still able to make a nice evening for us
Had dinner before a show and it was wonderful. Louie our server was very knowledgeable about the food and wine, made great recommendations and was mindful of our time constraints. The food was very good from start to finish.
Great food... it’s difficult to find quality AND tasty Italian food out of the New York City area. But they’ve done a more than reasonable job here! Love it!
