Valley Inn Restaurant and Martini Bar
Great place for excellent food and service. A little noisy when the dining room is full, but the specials (especially the lobster tails) are exceptional.
Business dinner for four -- the entire evening was great -- everyone enjoyed the appetizers, the main courses, and especially the desserts. At the Valley Inn you can easily hear the conversation from everyone at your table.
The Food and Service continue to be excellent. Wife loves the Martini's
What a great neighborhood spot. Been coming for years. We have never been there around 6 pm on a Saturday night and in the future would probably go there much, much later. The room is quite small and narrow and the decibels are huge. My husband and I were across the table from each other and couldn't carry on a conversation without yelling. Must say that has never happened before when we arrived later or on a different night. The food is great and it is very quaint and nicely reminiscent of years gone by. We will clearly enjoy more wonderful dinners there, but later for sure.
I love the old world vibe and history of the restaurant. From Yelp reviews I've read, service always seems to be the sticking point. I've went two times recently and both times it was a bit clunky. Not terrible but not what you'd hope for in a fine restaurant. We were given an awkward table in a high traffic area and immediately were bumped twice by passing wait staff and bus boys. I mentioned this and was told we weren't. I said I think we'd know if we were bumped or not. Anyway... the food was very good so that was great but in addition to the bumping, our table was too close to a booth with two loud talking men, so the atmosphere wasn't the best. Also we were too close in general, so not intimate or romantic.
Wonderful evening as usual! And we had the small private room at the back which made it even better.
Great place for a quiet lunch with friends. Great service and no rush.
The waitress was quite rushed and seemed to what us to pay and leave even though it was not late. However the food was good and came to the table hot. The noise level was high but we could hear each other at the table.
Come here for a cozy comforting evening where conversation rules, martinis are stiff, and wine pours are generous. The food is good enough, especially the calamari, shrimp cocktail, steaks and prime rib. Excellent mashed potatoes, too. This is old-school dining and a wonderful escape from the trendy small plates, tatted-up servers and scream-to-be-heard restaurants. Highly recommend.
Nice setting for business meeting. Old but fun, great menu selection and plentiful portions.
The food was wonderful! Love the ambiance.
Old world charm, average food quality and creativity, modern day prices$$$
Service was slow, ordered A medium rare ribeye, was served Rare and meat was very tough.
Great food, wonderful service. Varied menu from a simple Beef Dip , to Sea Food( including Sand Dabs and Italian ( great chicken Marsala. Wonderful leather booths, table setting for 4 and 2 great private rooms for meetings or celebrations. LOVE THIS PLACE!
Had a family birthday celebration there, and it was wonderful, soup to nuts!
Our server Victoria was especially attentive and nice. Very accommodating and professional. Thank you!
Love this restaurant.
Amazing service, food is good. Great location, easy parking.
It was absolutely lovely. Old school with red leather booths. Older crowd. The food and service were very good.
A step back in time old vibe and old school dishes.
Not my first choice for dinner as the food was mediocre at best, the place is a time capsule and they need to update the place and the recipes.
The food was good. The service was ok. The ambience was nice. It was a bit pricy for just ok. Not bad, might return. Nice people and a pleasant Valentines experience, other than the limited menu. But that probably should have been expected on Valentines Day.
My wife and I were really looking forward to a great Valentines dinner. We heard great things. On the positive side, very nice old world charm decor, the hostess was a delightful woman and the wait staff was also good. On the negative, the bartender virtually ignored us and there was only 4 people in the bar and the food quality was rather subpar.
Valentine’s Day special menu was fabulous. Best service ever. Friendly and warm greeting. Always a pleasure.
We had to ask 3 different times for our water glasses to be refilled. Waitress n others walked by often, but never bothered asking if all all ok.
Food portions are smaller than in recent past (we got prime rib n salmon).
Hostess more interested in sitting with others, Babysitting n playing with newborns n talking to them instead of helping out with tables
I love this place. The Old School vibe and the food is great!
Old-school dining at its best. Excellent duck, and garlic cheese bread. Terrific martinis. If you’re looking for comfort, look no further. You have found just the right place.
Only one waitress for entire room, after going to this restaurant for over 30 years.. I may not go back
Very uncomfortable in front of all my friends, since I recommended the restaurant.
We have eaten at the Valley Inn often in the past and sadly, the quality seems to have decreased while the prices have gone through the roof! I had the prime rib ($38.00) which was mediocre at best (could have paid the same at Lawry's and gotten top quality meat...lesson learned). The service wasn't much better. I ordered the prime rib medium and it was served rare. I sent it back and it came back well-done...and without much taste. My wife was already eating (she enjoyed her chicken) and I chose to just go ahead and eat it so we could dine together. The mashed potatoes were bland, and the carrots were incredibly dry with absolutely no taste. Happily the dinner salad that came with the meal was excellent quality and the creamy garlic dressing was wonderful as always. As far as the ambience, it was incredibly noisy. With all the young children there, it was like eating in a day-care center (this was not the fault of the restaurant, but it made the dining experience extremely unpleasant. How sad that parents are so insensitive to other diners that they allow their children to act as if they're in a school yard). Sorry our experience wasn't as enjoyable as we remembered. We'll probably try again when the kids are in school!
Great Valley landmark, with lots of history. Really like the Walnut Crusted Chicken!
staff is great - friendly, efficient. ambience is cozy. great local hang-out.
Friendly and reliable. Great food.
The food and service is always excellent and a good value.
We left going to the Valley Inn. Good food, wonderful retro ambiance, relatively quiet so conversation is easy. Great for special occasions and out of town guests.
We went on Christmas day when not many restaurants were open. Limited menu (no problem), friendly service, right on time for our reservation.
Came here tonight for my husbands birthday. First time. Yes it’s Christmas Eve. But they’re not closed and chose to take our 8pm reservation. From the moment we arrived at 7pm to have a drink at the bar, the staff was angry we were there. The bartender barely wanted to serve us. Clearly wanted to be home with family. The server was terrible. Rude and disrespectful. When one of our meals arrived different than ordered, we asked for it to be fixed and were told that the chef already went home, nothing could be done. No dessert was available for us to order. Again, don’t begrudge anyone for wanting to be with their family for Christmas Eve, but don’t accept a reservation. These first timers won’t be back. Ever.
Dinner was great. I had the fried chicken, which was excellent. I would highly recommend this to everyone.
The restaurant is very old school. The servers have been there a long time. They may not be the most pleasant but are efficient.
I would recommend this place due to nostalgia and the food is still very good, after all of these years.
I have been coming to this restaurant for years, it's a neighborhood institution. The problem I have had lately was with the service. We waited 45minutes before getting our salad and I don't think there is any excuse for that. The food is always good but I find it annoying to have to wait so long for service. The problem was not just with our table, but also for those we could observe.
Chicken was a bit dry but asking for gravy helped. Mashed potatoes ok but appearance was average. Veggies the same. Needed more seasoning for plating appearance.
We arrived very early in the evening, 5:15 because we had show tickets in a different part of the City. We ordered about 5:30 and were only the third occupied table in the restaurant. As time passed we asked for our food several times but weren't served until 6:25, 55 minutes after ordering in the practically empty place. At this point we could only rush through a partial meal. The waitress said it was the kitchen's fault; the owner's wife said it was the waitress'. When we complained to the owner because they had ruined our dinner by taking so long, all he said was "I'm sorry, it's never happened before" and most nonsensically of all, asked if he could buy us dessert as if we had all the time in the world. A quality restaurant would have either bought us dinner since we had to rush out due to their mistakes or at least offered some small accommodation on the price. We really weren't looking for a break, but they should have offered something after ruining our meal and blaming two different parts of the staff. Very poor response to our situation. By the way, he roast beef was almost inedible because of the amount of fat in the cut, salmon was pretty good.
Nostalgic. Good food, good size portions. Great garlic bread. owners and servers not so friendly.
Owners do not make you feel terribly welcome. Wine list could be improved.
