Very casual and low key. Drinks and food were exceptional. Would definitely go again.
This makes for a perfect way to relax and experience the park.
I love this restaurant. After moving to Philly from the Bay Area I am always craving nature - so to be able to sit at this very relaxed, lovely inn ensconced in the beauty of the Wissahickon - well, I am in heaven. Add to that the extremely friendly and helpful staff -
and relaxed vibe of the place - plus three delicious meals I have had - now calling this my favorite place.
Also, I am on an elimination diet and they were so helpful and patient in accommodating my dietary restrictions. A+.
Food was delicious. Good choices on the menu. Excellent caring service.
I was looking for a place for dinner that has excellent food, suburb atmosphere and good service. What a delight Valley Green was even on a hot summer evening eating outdoors on the porch immersed in nature and watching the geese fly in for a landing on the river! We joined their Club online and received a wonderful offer for a free appetizer with my entree. We had the tuna tartare which was great and that night's special, a summer berry salad with greens and salmon imperial. All totally yummy!
Beautiful rustic and historic atmosphere coupled with excellent service and great food. Will be back again. A wonderful gem!
Very nice over all. The iced coffee is ridiculously weak with mostly milk, but everything else was very nice.
Took my sister there for her birthday along with my niece and nephew. We had a nice table on the porch. We were wondering why it was not very busy, but soon found out that as soon as lunch was thru, the restaurant was closing down to prepare for a wedding. Very beautiful setting for a wedding! Like everywhere else, things are a little pricey now. Still one of my most favorite places. Would have perhaps liked to be offered another drink but the waitress never did.
We arrived early, but the staff was very accommodating and sat us immediately. The Chicken and Corn Chowder soup was savory and delicious--golden in color and comprised of fresh vegetables and generous amount of chicken. I had the short ribs, and my husband had the crab cakes. Both were very good. Best of all, the soup and the short ribs were gluten-free. You can't beat the historic ambiance and the beautiful view of the Wissahickon Creek. It is a step back in time. I would recommend indoor seating if dining in the summer months and you are seeking a quiet atmosphere. We couldn't hear a thing from the outdoors. Sit outside if you'd like to enjoy the park guests and average-to above-average picnic noise. A special find.
We were nine people at lunch, including two small children. It was a beautiful 4th of July morning, but we found parking spaces after just a bit of jockeying — an auspicious beginning. The Inn’s host knew from our reservation that we wanted to be outdoors, and offered us a choice of tables — one table for 9 in the sun with a fan overhead, or two smaller tables in the shade on the porch. We chose porch. As it happened, the people at one table chose conventional offerings: burgers, chicken wings, fries, Caesar salad. They were pleased, but found more pleasure in each other’s company than the food. The three adults at the second table ordered cauliflower tempura (crisply cooked and served in a light aioli with chili oil), hummus with roasted celery root, shallots, and honey, and battered Thai shrimp, just a bit spicy. One of us also had a cup of chicken corn chowder, and the child had a hot dog. The people at this table were delighted with the food, wishing only that there had been six shrimp rather than four. We all had a fine time!
Outstanding service from our waiter Max and the whole staff! So thankful for their attention to detail regarding my mother-in-law's food allergies and their courtesy when the kitchen made a small error for my own meal. The food was fresh and high quality for the price, and the view of the thunderstorm from the porch felt truly special. We will definitely be back!
We very much enjoyed our lunch at Valley Green
We had a lovely dinner on the porch. The food was excellent and our server did a good job taking care of us despite a large party in another room. So glad the Inn is open and operational. It’s a treat!
Great outdoor seating, awesome server who was very kind, and great food.
Wonderful place - cosy, quiet tonight and just perfect for our conversation. The food was very good - transcendent salmon perfectly prepared & my companion had the short ribs which he praised mightily. Service? Superb.
We are frequent diners at Valley Green Inn and we love everything about it. This time around, the Chilean sea bass special was just exquisite. One of the best meals I've had in a long time.
Valley Green Inn is a great eatery for the relaxed atmosphere and good standard American food. The menu is somewhat limited. No Italian dishes on the menu.
Appetizers were delicious. Ahi Tuna was perfect! Special of the day berry salad was a generous portion which we all shared. Sea Bass entree was great too! Had a wonderful time—came off hour.
The staff were wonderful. My dining companion parked way up the trail and walked an hour to get to the Inn. She showed up an hour late for our reservation, hot, tired. The staff were just great, organizing water and Gatorade and even agreeing to accommodate us after I left to meet my friend on the trail. First rate. And the food was delicious, too!
The setting was very enjoyable, but the service was slow and the prices seemed high for the food quality. Overall a very enjoyable lunch.
It was very hot, so the humidity didn't help. But despite the seating being at half capacity, the wait for the food was exceedingly long. Orders for beverages were 20 minutes to fulfill. The ambience and the memories are what makes us return, but seems to be missing a step in the quality component
Every thing was great ! Looks like a lot of changes , food , service , qualities etc !
always our favorite but this exceeded expectations!
We go there once or twice a year. We sat outside on this occasion, on the porch, and it was incredibly pleasant with a picturesque view. We all enjoyed our dinners; my salmon was cooked just right, and the bed of couscous/veg was delicious with the dribbled sauce.
Great food and service in a beautiful old building. Unfortunately for this business, there are unsavory characters passing by on the trail, shouting obscenities, playing loud music, displaying mental illness, etc. So if you go, eat inside!
Very nice staff, interesting menu, great view, food was very good.
Nice lunch on the patio after a hike
Always a great experience at the Valley Green Inn. It’s quite literally “off the beaten path”, but will always be one of my favorite restaurants in all of Philadelphia. The food and service has consistently been excellent through the years...and even if it wasn’t, I’d probably still come here for the atmosphere. Highly recommended if you haven’t tried it yet.
It is about the experience. Food is honestly fair. Nothing to great or fresh.
Crab cakes were more fill and were fishy.
Hot chicken was tasteless.
Our waitress was great and the ambiance was too.
Drinks were over priced and so-so.
You don’t go here for great food.
Outdoor on the porch on a warm June day, what more do you need!
The food was good but seemed a little overpriced. It's a beautiful setting and a great time was had.
Nice spring / early summer afternoon sitting outside on the porch watching people enjoy the Wissahickon trail... the Valley Green Inn is dependably good food in a lovely spot.
Everyone was lovely and accommodating under challenging circumstances! Thank you!
Friends’ birthday. Great setting and food.
The food was good, servers were friendly, but very busy. Location and view can't be beat! Some people, including us, had to wait a bit to be seated, even though we had reservations and there were empty tables. But once we were seated everything was very nice.
I have been going to Valley Green for about 65 years and I love it! But our last visit was surprisingly a bit disappointing. There was a mix-up at the start so that no server came to our table after we were seated for at least 10 minutes although servers did come to the tables around us. We did not get our food for 50 minutes while other customers who had arrived earlier did get their food. The food was delicious, however. The biggest problem, however, was that there was a gentleman power washing the area right next to the porch while we were sitting. The area already is somewhat noisy with everyone talking, but the noise of the powerwasher was overwhelming. I understand that the job needs to be done, but why not do it earlier in the morning before lunch starts? It lasted for a good 15 minutes. None of this will stop me from coming back, but if it had been my first time at VG I might have thought twice about returning.
Delicious lunch and delightful wine and unobtrusive and attentive service!
The food and service were excellent. We love to got there and eat outside especially for lunch. We will be back.
The outdoor dining experience at Valley Green was excellent. The tables were nicely spaced under the beautiful canopy of trees surrounding the Inn. The wedge salad with salmon was fresh and plentiful and my companion enjoyed her short ribs. Our server was very efficient and our entrees arrived very quickly. We finished our meal with a slice of cheesecake with berries. It was a lovely Springtime lunch!
We bought out of town grinds for lunch. We all enjoyed the historic ambience and lovely service and surprisingly very good food
