Vale Bar and Grill - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
I will not go back to this restaurant. our appetizer and salad were brought to the table together as if we were being rushed, although there were many empty tables. My steak was cut up as if the chef was removing large pieces of fat (it was not cheap either) and then it was covered with the most tasteless mushrooms ever. An add'l way of hiding the fact that they cleaned the meat after cooking.
My husband and I are regulars at Vale. I meet my friends there for girls night out and sometimes dine there on the weekends with my husband. The food is consistent, well made and delicious. There are a lot of options to choose from as well as great cocktails. I'll keep coming back!
We had the meatballs and calamari for appetizers, the tuna, braised ribs for dinner, and the chocolate cake and tiramisu for dessert. All very delicious. Our waiter was sweet, but either in or barely out of high school. I ordered a vodka soda, I got a coke with vodka. When desert was delivered, there were no plates or silverware to accommodate them. We had to ask. Were these reasons not to go back, absolutely not. But certainly items they could improve upon. Based on the great meals, we will definitely go back.
My wife and I had 6:00 p.m. reservations for Valentine's Day. The restaurant was not even half full and nobody was waiting for a table, yet they rushed us through our entire meal in under an hour. Didn't even have time for a second drink. So much for a leisurely romantic evening out. We asked the waitress if there were any soups or salads available as none were listed on the limited (but overpriced) Valentine's Day menu. Her response was "I don't know. I haven't looked at the menu." Unacceptable. My wife ordered the short ribs ($32) and the portion consisted of more fat than meat. It was practically inedible. I ordered the NY Strip Steak (ordinarily $23 according to the website, but jacked up to $29 for Valentine's Day). The portion was a decent size and it was cooked medium as I had requested, but it was tasteless. We finished up with a watered-down cappuccino. Our water glasses were not refilled once during the meal and nobody bothered asking how our food was after it was served. The atmosphere was pleasant, as was the waitress (although she did not know the menu). However, for the prices they charge, I expect much better quality food and service. I do not plan on returning.
I liked the atmosphere and the bar was very active. Server was very attentive. Thought the food was overpriced $30.00 for short ribs. Also,I was drinking Vodka and soda and when I got home I saw that I was charged for a name brand Vodka not the house brand. If I wanted to pay more for a name brand I would have asked for it .And lastly, I was told the main dining room is very noisy which it was but we were put in the upper dining room which was very enjoyable!
My wife and I wanted to try a new place and I remember passing this restaurant on way home one night. We looked at the online menu and it looked great. We took the family there and had a great meal with great service for a reasonable price. This is a great find, nestled in a nice neighborhood in Rivervale NJ. I highly recommend this place, everyone is warm and friendly as well.
Even after reading mixed reviews, we decided to try Vale and we're glad we did. From the moment you arrive until you leave, you are not rushed through your meal. We ordered a variety of appetizers, entrees, drinks and desserts and could not be more pleased. Portions were plentiful and delicious. Give Vale a try, you won't be disappointed.
Have been loyal diners since it opened - at least 20 meals here. Always has been good or better experience. This night was the worst. Simple requests were ignored and messed up several times. Seltzer with no ice took 30 minutes and arrived with ice. Bread never showed up despite being promised then requested twice. Refilling of water glasses seemed to be a chore. Three requests for a spoon for pasta led to one of our guests getting up from the table and asking the host. The third time we had to endure an explanation of how it gets heated up and it takes time. Food was good, but the service was poorly coordinated and detached.
We love going to Vale on a regular basis. The food is great and we really look forward to the hospitality (and skill) of Will and Jesus at the bar. When we dine inside, the servers there have also been top shelf and intuitive; they know the menu and have made great recommendations for us. The interior is really nice, including the rest rooms, and I find going there to be an intimate romantic evening for dinner, but a fun and vibrant scene at the bar if you're up for socializing.
I went with high expectations for a fun date night. Unfortunately that was not the case at 8PM on a Saturday night. There were many families and it was loud. We had requested a booth but were seated almost on top of a table for 4 that had an unexpected 5th Guest...The drinks were very good as was the burger. The appetizers and main course were average at best...when we were leaving the bar was hopping and a band was playing. Seemed like a younger crowd but a nice bar scene
I saw this restaurant on Yelp and saw mixed reviews and after eating here I can't understand why? Service was solid and everyone enjoyed their entrees there wasn't one misstep through the entire meal next time I hope to save room for dessert. So nice looking place we were greeted warmly as we entered the restaurant. They had live music at the bar
The restaurant was cozy and relaxing. We got prompt service and thoroughly enjoyed our food. The scallops were hot without overdoing the breadcrumbs and the tuna was perfectly sliced with just enough sauce. I loved the green horseradish sauce. I want some in my house. The entree of salmon, rice and vegets were just enough to satisfy the 'cleaner' eater while the pork chop was huge and perfectly cooked with potatoes and vegets also. To top it all off, we had a cheesecake slice to split which was the absolute perfect ending to a wonderful meal. Pricey but worth it.
We've been to Vale Bar and Grill a few times now, which is when I like to review a place, since we've seen it in good times and bad. Well, there are, in my opinion no bad times to be had here. From the moment you walk into the beautiful waiting area, and then either to the lively bar, or the serene dining areas, you are in for a very nice evening. Food is creative, and tastes as good as it looks when it's presented to your table. Service friendly and professional. Overall, an enjoyable evening.
Nothing was great about this restaurant. Wouldn't go back. The only plus is that we walked to it from our house.
I ordered seafood fra diavolo, which was supposed to be shrimp, scallops and mussels over linguine. I got a plate of mussels, one or two frozen shrimp with the texture of rubber, and one or two scallops sliced in half over a pound of linguine with sauce that tasted several days old. Yuk. Not cheap either.
Went on a Friday about 6:15 pm for a 7:00 reservation. There was a full bar with lots of people enjoying themselves but was very loud. Went to the dining room at 7 which was less noisy. Our waiter Sean was fantastic, super helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. He was also entertaining, engaging and funny and really made it a good night.
Bread and a roasted garlic dipping sauce was brought to the table with water service. If you like lots of garlic, go for it. If you're like me and don't, ask for some butter.
Arancini app was great. Crab cake app was good not great. Grilled chorizo app is basic but very good.
Three of us had braised short ribs with a tomato based gravy and creamy risotto side which was really good and noted on the menu as the house special. One had shrimp/vegetable risotto off the special menu and said it was very good too. We were full and laid off the dessert. Overall a fun night and a good culinary experience with no issues. Friday night it looks like live music starts around 9 ish. We were out before the music started but I imagine that the louder noise may spill into the dining room.
Whenever we want to be GUARANTEED a great, fun night out, we go to Vale!!! The food is always terrific & the ambience is vibrant. From the hostess at the door to the waitress serving our food, we are always treated special!!!! That's why we keep coming back.
Easter Sunday was our 2nd visit to Vale. The food is good and there is a good selection on the menu. We did choose a family style for 4 dinner of lamb and we were disappointed there was only enough lamb chops for 4 of us with 2 each and they were baby lamp chops so they were not huge. There was also nothing else with it except creamed spinach, no potato, that was a disappointment but the lamb was tasty. The others had other items on the regular menu with no complaints, all said everything was good. Our servers were VERY good. I will definitely go back!
Loved it. This was our first time there. Boys got fried calamari which was great and we had the caprese which we loved. Then boys had chicken parm which they raved over. I had a meat ragu and my husband had the short ribs. Mom had the pasta with sausage. Everything was great. For dessert I had the lava cake. Mom had apple crisp and my dh had the tiramisu. Also excellent. We were very happy. We will be going back. So awesome when we try something new and we enjoy it.
We have been to Vale a few times and it has been satisfactory. Somewhat limited menu and adequate food preparation and execution.
We rely on Open Table to provide accurate availability and reservation times. At 6:15, we reserved a table for 2 at 8 and noted that, at that time, the restaurant was showing availability at 7:30, 7:45, 8; 8:15 and 8:30. We arrived a few minutes after 8 and agreed to wait when the hostess said our table was paying its bill...however after we watched several couples be seated as we waited, we were still waiting at 9PM.
We were very tolerant, not hostile. After the hostess disappeared for the 4th or 5th time for minutes on end without any explanation of the delay, we walked out.
The restaurant than had the gall to "cancel" our reservation, which prompted the need to clarify the situation. We understand that unforeseeable issues arise which delay reservations, but a 1 hour delay, with no explanation, when we were seeing a wide open availability less than 2 hours before the reservation was unreasonable and unprofessional.
Perhaps if this store was 3 or 4 star Michelin rated, we would tolerate the extra wait; Vale is not even close to that level of quality and thus the delay and lack of communication are a fatal flaw.
Buon fortuna, but we will not be among those who recommend or patronize this flash in the pan.
Most dishes were good or very good. Chopped salad was good. Eggplant rollatini wasn't rollatini (it was just a single layer on the plate.) Steak was exactly as ordered. Someone was very happy with a chicken and pasta dish they ordered. The grilled octopus was poor- very rubbery and the tomatoes served with it were out of season and flavorless.
Go there at least once a week!! LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Service is friendly and courteous. From the moment you enter you are greeted by a SMILEY face who shows you to your table. Next your waiter INTRODUCES herself to you, makes you feel welcomed and comfortable. Great variety of menu options to choose from, as well as a wide variety of drinks.
Overall, I would, an do, recommend Vale to all my friends.
It was wonderful finding a new restaurant for my husband and I to try that was delicious. Local neighborhood place is ideal for a quick bit or a hearty dinner. The valet parking is a plus. Will be visiting it again with friends. Thank u vale for being heavenly
