Valbella Midtown Ratings and Reviews
Excellent Food, wonderful service . A memorable evening for sure. Hope to come back when they are not having a private party in the main dining room to get the true ambience of this place since it was our first time. We had a wonderful meal, our service was terrific and they took very good care of us as we were celebrating a birthday> would highly recommend.
The Waiter was uninterested in our business. Had to call him back twice just to understand the special. He was more interested in the tables around us. The support staff was good. Called this to the attention of the manager and his response was it must be the waiters off day. He never checked on us. Disappointing.
We had a wonderful dinner date at Valbella following a show on Broadway. At 8:30 in the evening, the restaurant was relatively quiet, and the staff was extremely attentive. The Italian menu was creative and classic at the same time. We enjoyed the sommelier's recommendation for a wine that would work well with both of our entree's, and were happy to spend the money to have a really, really, good dining experience.
Unfortunately, Valbella Midtown has not been able to sustain their good reputation and quality food. I have dined there for lunch and dinner a few times over the last couple of years and it has always been a go to, for midtown Italian. Unfortunately, this time my experience was less than acceptable. I would be hard pressed to say that anything that we ordered, in our party of 6, was even moderately good. We had clients in town from L.A. and thought it would be the perfect restaurant to meet at. We ordered the Baked clams, Octopus, Pear salad, Tuna Tartare, Gnocci, Veal Piccata and Burrata, amongst a few other entrees. These entrees, in particular were awful. The baked clams were gritty and cold, the Gnocci was bland and cold & had VERY little sauce, the Veal was bland, tough & inedible, the Burrata (which used to be delicious) was tasteless. I don't want to tear apart every meal but the bottom line is it is overpriced for the quality and the food was not only cold and it was just not good. In addition, we ordered an expensive bottle of wine and the cork was compromised and the wine left you with an awful after taste. I'm sorry to say but we will not be back.
Stuffed veal chop a favorite on mine --- this one is in the top 3 ever. Chilean sea bass like butter on your tongue. Do not miss the Napolean for dessert - spectacular and I am sure the chocolate lava is equally as good. $$$ necessitate a special occasion or an expense account. Enjoy.
Great Restaurant, both interior design to the food. I reserved at the restaurant because New York is the place to eat for Italian food.
Great wine list, excellent handling of seafood. And a great staff.
Definitely, a must if you feel like being part of the upper lower class a correct price.
Service was very attentive. The bar tender did try to sneak a diet soda instead of a regular soda to us ( story is long but I was sitting at a great spot to observe the whole thing from the first pour of diet -they use bottles not fountain- to a waiter having to carry a case of non diet to the bar when we asked for it to be corrected. Btw bar was not busy). Food was very good. We had the veal martini ( I think ). It came with3 cutlets, potatoes and green beans. It was amazing. We also had salads and desserts ( napoleons andchocolate soufle) also very good. It was very experience though.
We were warmly welcomed at the door. The hostess was very nice and engaging as we were seated. After that, everything was cold as ice. The assistant server had zero personality. Absolutely awful. We sat there for quite a bit waiting for our waiter and menus. The waiter was a bit warmer but nothing to write home about. I reviewed the menu prior. It sounded delicious. Unfortunately, the food was incredibly bland. My daughter loved her lobster ravioli. I had the pasta with porcini mushrooms. I think there was a total of 2 mushrooms. My partner had the steak and lobster but it was also very bland. It wasn't spicy at all. I ordered a couple diet cokes. When we received them they were flat. The waiter said - oh, really? I just opened the bottle. As if questioning me. Overall a big flop. Will not be returning.
The food was very good; however, I thought it was on the expensive side. Dinner for 4 -- 2 salads, 4 drinks (two were beers), 4 entrees (three were pasta dishes and one of those was an appetizer portion), and 2 coffees was almost $300 with the tip. Outside atmosphere nice.
Thi8s was our first time dining at Valbella Downtown. The decor is very clean and modern and attractive. The wait staff is very attentive without being intrusive. My only criticism is that the prices reflected on the website were not the same as on the menu. That made our dinner more expensive than we anticipated. The food was very good but I am not sure we will return to this restaurant.
This was our first visit to Valbella Midtown. We arrived for a post-theater dinner, and were worried that we would be rushed because of the late hour. We were welcomed, seated, and never rushed. The bottle of wine we requested wasn't available, so they substituted a more expensive bottle and matched the price. We started our dinner with Caprese and Insulata Riccia. Both were beautifully presented, fresh and delicious. Our main course consisted of lamb chops (3 chops topped with eggplant, tomato and mozzarella) and Beef filet in a peppercorn sauce. Both entrees were amazing and cooked to perfection. Our server, Agon, was very attentive, without being intrusive. He ended the evening by bringing a complementary Napoleon dessert for my birthday. The entire experience at Valbella was great!
