Valbella Connecticut Ratings and Reviews
Overpriced italian food.
Nice ambiance. Food was good but not worth the price. Also if only having a glass of wine the wines by the glass are of poor quality for a high end italian restaurant.
Fish was very good but not worth $60.
Most dissapointed in the wine. For $18 should be able to get a decent glass of wine.
It was our time and we were staying at the Hyatt down the street. The ambiance and service is excellent, the food was only fair. If the price doesn’t matter to you, it’s worth a visit. If it does, there are much better choices. They do have a good selection of wines at various price points.
We had a great experience at Valbella. My wife used to go when she was young, so we knew what we were going for. We arrived early, so we started at the bar for a glass of champagne. The bartender was nice, quick and attentive. They brought out some delicious cheese and charcuterie while we waited. Once at the table, our server was again polite and attentive, though he definitely gave us the space we wanted to enjoy our evening. The restaurant has a wonderful wine list. Although there are many extremely expensive vintages, there are some gems for a reasonable price for a young couple. We did find it strange there was no sommelier
given the quality of the wine list. The food was delicious. The specials were amazing. The only faux pas, was when we ordered a second bottle of the same wine. My wife tasted the new bottle and when she approved, the server poured the remains of the taste into her half-full glass from the previous bottle. The dessert was decadent. The caramel ice cream was superb. We will definitely be back.
I love, love , love Val Bella! I have never had a disappointing meal there! They also make you feel like a queen! In the ten years I have been going there I have yet to be let down! The pasta with fresh truffles is my absolute favorite dish! And all the staff knows it!
We recently had a pleasant family dinner there. The food was first rate and the waitor was both cordial and knowledgable. I admit to having sticker shock when I looked at the bill -- I had never had a $110 plate of pasta before -- but my wife informed me that white truffles were expensive and the restaurant used top quality truffles. In other words, you get what you pay for. A truffle fan, she said they were wonderful. The house wines were quite pleasant and the fish was fresh. A nice local restaurant in Greenwich.
Though this restaurant hosts some bold-faced names that I know of, it comes with some major caveats. The food is indeed excellent, as is the service, but the noise level on a recent Saturday night drove one of my guests out to the parking lot to get out of its power. The prices are also a bit lofty, though I suppose not for the neighborhood I was in. We left before dessert because we just couldn't hold a normal conversation anymore as the restaurant filled up. But I must compliment them on the high quality seafood dishes.
Continues to impress. Food is delicious, old world and unpretentious. "Foodies" would not appreciate. In my opinion that is a plus, not a minus. The present trend is to throw away the old, time tested cuisine, forgetting that there is still a large segment of the population that enjoys it. Atmosphere allows for conversation with the person(s) you are with, not to be drowned out by the popular noise infused background today's restaurants are dedicated to. Tables are not welded to each other and allow a degree of privacy and ease of movement. Finally, the service remains impeccable...constant attention without being intrusive.
Table of 5. Service was good. Started with a caesar salad and was disappointed. It was lacking in seasoning. My main dish, veal scallopini, was good but others had the special, Halibut, and all said it was dry. The prices are extremely high, so food should be perfect. Tonight, it wasn't.
Haven't been in a while. Still amazing dinning experience. Don't like the new lighting set-up. Spotlight on our table. Regis was at next table and they brought out a ladder to redirect his spotlight. This is from a guy who spent his whole life in the spotlight.
The atmosphere was welcoming, the service was good and the room is nicely appointed. The noise level was too high as the evening went along which made it almost impossible to have a conversation at our table. The food is not special and can be gloppy and oversauced. The prices are astronomical for very pedestrian food. Overall, I would only recommend it to people who can't think of another upscale alternative.
I specifically requested the Wine Cellar as it was a celebratory evening in relation to an engagement proposal that was made earlier in the day. Everyone thought the evening was fantastic (no one else had been to Valbella's previously). The atmosphere in the wine cellar makes that 'special night' even more special.
I had a beautiful evening taking in the warm ambiance with friends & family. I had asparagus with grilled chicken & shrimp-which was absolutely delicious! Everyone enjoyed their dinners from Gnocchi's to Chilean Sea Bass to Pork chops and salads. The service was outstanding and second to none. They also have a private dining room that can be rented out for parties and events as well as a wince cellar dining room. Highly recommend Valbella's!
We asked for wine cellar table and were seated as requested. Unfortunately, no one bothered to inform us that there was a 17pp table that evening celebrating a birthday right next to us. They were very loud. This caused it difficult to have a conversation at our own table and the service also suffered as a result. I think I should have been informed that this party was scheduled to take place in the cellar and we would have happily moved our reservation to an upstairs, quieter area.
Longtime fan favorite.
The service was outstanding.Kathy Andrew and myself had an outstanding meal.
We each had salads to start.
The Caesar was excellent as well as the tri color
The dinners were also phenomenal
The special macaroni dish with truffles was stupendous
Andrew had the steak and lobster. He said was very good just a little too much sauce.
I had the Dover Sole which was deboned perfectly and excellent.
