Valbella is truly a fantastic restaurant; one we go to frequently when we visit NYC. The food at Valbella is just amazing. Each dish is made of fresh and marvelous ingredients- with perfect seasoning and presentation. The service is always on the mark as well. Great timing on service, attentive but invisible, always gracious. The wine list is carefully curated and the desserts are delicious.
The food was fabulous as always. Peter and Doggie were consummate professionals and made me feel very special and tended to. I highly recommend Valbelka mestpacking.
Brought my family from Seattle for a true NY Italian restaurant service and quality experience. Excellent experience! Will be back
Just a Perfect night with incredible food.
Lived up to the very fine reputable from the wine to the specialty desserts. Celebrating a retirement and it was just a perfect night.
A birthday occasion, selected because we hadn't been there before and the meatpacking district is within walking distance. Excellent service, good food (we had the Porterhouse for 2, and Kumamoto oysters were available). An expense account probably would have helped. We will go again.
With a father who ran a family restaurant outside of Milan, and having been raised on authentic Italian food, I maintain a very high standard -- which I test by ordering pasta with a Bolognese sauce. Here, it simply didn't pass muster. The texture was wrong, with oversized chunks of celery, the consistency was watery, not creamy, and the taste was essentially non-existent. It was flavorless. The pasta itself, Pappardelle, was fairly good -- it seemed fresh, but was a little overcooked. Maybe I got them on a bad day, but I won't be going back. Not at these prices. Sad to be so disappointed given the other reviews I've read.
All around great!
Neapolitan might have been the best dessert I’ve ever had - I eat out often and rarely do reviews but this was special
My wife and I've been at Valbella before so it is easy and safe when you want to celebrate a special occasion and you do not want to err; just go to Valbella; Valbella meatpacking district in the Village it is really a beautiful restaurant located on the trendiest location in town. We celebrated birthdays before at Valbella's and were very pleased and content. -We like things slow and we do not want to rush, so we asked in advance to have the whole dinner paced out and smooth, and so it was. We met again with David the Restauranteur and owner which it was nice so we exchanged a couple of words. The restaurant I must say it is beautiful, as well as the food is delicious, we took an early booking but as the night advanced it became quite lively and full. I would recommend this location to anyone who would like to have really night out or celebrate that special day. There were some exceptions though.!!
We did not have a dessert, just because we were pleasantly satisfied without much room for a full dessert platter, besides at every restaurant of this category and holding high standards as Valbella is, there is always an attention on their behalf for the person celebrating a birthday at the end of the night.
this was not the case this time at Valbella and it really left me somewhat disappointed and sour
both me and my wife I must say . And do not take me wrong, it was great and enjoyable until then but I guess I took for granted that Valbella would live up to other NY best restaurants standards with a note of appreciation and farewell, a small plate of cookies, a lit birthday candle, a bon bon , just anything to seal the night in a good and cheerful gesture.-
This small detail that they fail to deliver would have accomplished a lot but instead it took a big slice of the enjoyment at the very end. Pity indeed pity !!!!
Greatly disappointed guest:
Very cool place in Meatpacking District. The food and service were great. A really good place to bring friends and family.
Another great evening at Valbella. The pasta dishes were very tasty and the fish fresh as always.
A last minute late reservation, and we were unhurried and treated like family. Always a great choice!
Hope to be back again soon!
I was disappointed in the initial service , only in regard to where we were seated . We had a reservation on the early side , to celebrate our anniversary . We we directed , probably to one of the worse table locations in the restaurant (right in front of a computer station ) We notified the restaurant way in advance of our occasion . When we requested a different table , it was only slightly better , now in front of an emergency door . Didn’t bother getting a photo of us , with such an ugly backdrop .
This was my second time there and I loved their specials for the day. But quite disappointed on the lobster/crab ravioli (not too fresh due to early preparation since we had it at the end of the day, late evening dinner). I will go back there again for their specials for the night.
The service and food were both excellent and the noise level was reasonable! Highly recommend.
Excellent food, service and ambience .
Very expensive. Overpriced. Waiters with attitude. Beef carpaccio served with balsamic glacé? The lamb was good, but the Dover sole over cooked. In the other hand my dessert , the soufflé, under cooked. I won’t came back
I have been to Valbella in the Meatpacking district 4 times now I think, but I don't think I will be back. The food is good, though the buratta I had this time was tasteless. The wine list is extensive and vastly overpriced. The big complaint I have with the most recent visit was the service was awful. I get that the server make more money when pushing wine, but he "dumped" it in our glasses like he was pouring water from a giant jug, mixing wines from two different bottles in one glass, and opening up additional bottles to pour before asking me. Most of the restaurant was overrun with a business event, and my party was sequestered in a corner (fortunately I guess), part of the small minority in the crowded, loud place without stick on name tags hastily drawn upon with colored markers left on tables. They should have not taken additional reservations if they knew the place was virtually sold out with a business outing. The food is reliable but certainly not worth the poor service, overpriced wine, and general feel of a fast-food restaurant on steroids.
David and Franco were wonderful but our waiter was not very friendly and felt he wanted us in and out. Not reflective of what we had experienced when we last visited this gem and was disappointing in our special celebration. Put a little damper on our visit. Unfortunate.
Not a place to penny pinch.
Know your wines, list is very extensive and expensive but a fabulous selection.
The Food itself was perfection 10/10, but I personally felt that the waiter was a bit arrogant and tried to take the high ground and talk down to me/us. I may be new to NYC, but I'm certainly not new to fine dining. The wine list is notably expensive. Yes this is NYC but fine dining in Central London is just as prestigious if not better, but with a more reasonable selection of wines from £40- £500, not $60-$3000! And they didnt even gave a Malbec!
I like Chateuneuf de Pape too, but that was hugely overpriced compared to the UK.
In summary, a great foodie place, but be prepared to break the bank over a few glasses of vino. Just felt uneasy as the staff were more interested in serving the loud obnoxious group adjacent to us, clearly flashing the dollars.
My absolute favorite restaurant in the world.
My husband and I throughly enjoyed our dining experience at Valbella. Although we arrived early for our reservation we were seated right away. Our waiter was very good and service was top notch. I had endive salad with pears and gorgonzola. The salad was crisp aand the pears were delicious. I had almond crusted chicken fo
r my entre which was amazing. For dessert we had pistachio tartufo with rasberry jam inside. Just delicious. Highly recommend Valbella but what was above and beyond good service was when the manager of the restaurant came outside to find us because I left my cell phone and glasses behind on the table! Thank you so very much for returning them to me. It was so good of you!
Fantastic all around. First-rate service, fabulous food.
Went to Valbella for dinner as friends gave us a GC for our 25th Anniversary. Food and service were amazing! The atmosphere was elegant and romantic for a dinner for 2. Peter our server was attentive, extremely knowledgeable and accommodating.
Sat down, only received wine menus for first 15 minutes until asking for food menus so we could decide what wine would go best with our meal (not many reasonable wine list options, most range $300-$400/bottle). Very persistent on us ordering our wine first (Side note: No cocktail list available). They were out of the first 2 appetizers we wanted to order. We ended up ordering 2 appetizers from the daily specials which were the highlight of the evening. For the main, I ordered the filet and bone marrow which was tasty, however my girlfriend ordered the veal with steamed vegetables which came out barely warm, soggy and unflavorful- something similar to a cheap delivery meal, definitely not worth $50. When we received our food, the waiter did not come around for 15 minutes and never asked how the food was so she salvaged the meal with the salt and pepper sitting on our table. When we finished the meal the waiter came to pick up our signed check. When he realized his tip was not what it should’ve been for a $300 meal, he came back to confront us. We described what this review entails, where he came up with excuses and became defensive instead of apologizing or offering any compensation. This was my girlfriends birthday dinner, nothing was mentioned to her and we regret choosing Valbella as our special dinner occasion. We will not be back.
David and his team deliver and outstanding experience along with exceptional food.
We were celebrating a 50th anniversary with a group and everyone loved the restaurant. The service was excellent and the staff was so nice.
Enjoyed the whole experience. Specialy that the owner interacts with all of his guests and makes everyone feel welcome.
Great service and beautiful ambiance. I was going back and forth between two kinds of pasta, so the waiter said, I’ll bring you a little of both!
Beautiful place with very good food. On the expensive side though.
Attentive service, diverse menu, delicious meal and beautiful ambiance!
Seemed like we were a bother. Snarky, arrogant attitude. Food was good but not great. Price was high but not the problem...just didn't feel appreciated or wanted.
Food was excellent, including an entrée prepared especially for our vegan companion. Service was exceptionally attentive, without being intrusive. Sophisticated venue with no attitude, just a very good meal and time.
It was excellnt
Delicious food and great service. The linguine frutti di mare and burrata were amazing.
Best home made Italian food we have ever had in NYC.
Wonderful experience — food was exquisite and the service fantastic. Highly recommend. Looking forward to returning to Valbella on our next trip to NYC :)
Good food. Pricey. However, what was not the best of the experience was the level of service. We had a late dinner, around 9.30pm. Despite there were still two or threee occupied tables, you could hear the reggeaton coming out of the kitchen. We were in the other end of the dinning room. Plus, one waiter started emptying a big table where the customers had just left and he literally rolled the wooden table across the dining room. You just cannot do that. Especially if you charge those prices. Not classy at all.
I haven't been to Valbella's in awhile so it was good to go back. The meal was delicious as always. The surprise was, they were having a private party downstairs so they took us next door to a freight elevator (served prosecco, nice touch btw) and we went upstairs. I knew they
had an upstairs but I have never been up there. It added an interesting twist to the evening.
The food here is always tasty, they have a great wine list. Always a nice time there.
The experience starts while you are still on the sidewalk outside this restaurant with pavement to ceiling doors open to the outside with a perfectly sized table tucked in the open space. The waiter was low key but enthusiastic and attentive, which is not easy to pull off. The food is beyond delicious. I admit I came based on a strong recommendation so I ordered with an idea of putting them to the test. I had tempura lobster which could have easily been oily and soggy, but it was crisp out the outside and light and tender on the inside. The zucchini blossoms which often are balls of ricotta in sauce, with one never quite knowing where the zucchini blossoms are, were prepared in such a way that you could feel the blossom on your tongue and taste its delicate flavor through the ricotta and tomato sauce. I am not a dessert eater at all, so when they put down what looked like a napoleon in front of me that my colleague had ordered, I thought I would be polite and take a taste. I devoured it. The pastry was crispy enough to be crunchy and the cream, light and soft and never made the pastry soggy... somehow. This is a restaurant for any occasion.
