I've been here several times. Something has gone badly wrong here. Steaks were 10-15 dollars more than say Ruth chris. Over $55 for a steak. I had an 8oz filet that was so tough and chewy I couldn't eat it. It should be impossible to screw up a filet... even though it was properly cooked. Our server didn't know much.
Enjoyable evening meal with family members. Waitress was exceptional in how she took our drinks and food orders. We thought the salads were really good. The flat iron steak was out-standing in flavor and tenderness. The pork szchop was thick and juicey. It was a little noisey for table conversation. I thought the wine and bar drinks were pricey but maybe that's the norm for Vail.
Second time here. The food was good. The server sucked bad. 25 min before we got drinks!!!!! No apology. Then the dummy spilled half my wine next to the glass, again just an "oopsy"... no refill nor apology. Its unfortunate but i dont want to go back. A manager just walked by but didn't acknowledge the table either.
We sat outside to enjoy the entertainment and view and both were great. The owner sings and plays guitar. My food was delicious (trout). My husband's was ok (chicken). The service was a bit lacking and very slow, but we had no where to be, so not a big deal for us. We thought it was an upscale restaurant and chose it to celebrate a wedding anniversary, but it is just a regular restaurant. No need to dress up. Shorts and flipflops were abundant. Would recommend it to those in Vail that want a relaxed environment with a great view.
Honestly, we expected so much more. For the price, and the location, we expected a good steak. The cut was terrible, and tasteless, and after two tries they still couldn't tell medium rare from medium well. It's so disappointing to look forward to a good steak, and get a flavorless overdone mess.
Our service was pleasant but very slow. Steaks were decidedly overpriced, so we ordered seafood (trout), which was at best mediocre. It was served with very greasy brussel sprouts and a few pieces of lump crab (misleadingly advertised on menu as "colossal crab"). The four piece shrimp cocktail at $19 was overpriced and just average.
After making advanced reservations that required a credit card, we were seated in a bar area at a high table, not in the dining room. If vail chop house can't seat you in dining room, they shouldn't tell you that you have a reservation. Food was just ok.
Located at the base of the mountain, this is a great choice for après ski. They have outdoor seating and a large indoor bar and had live music during our visit. The food was good: better than most "bar and grill" restaurants, but not up to the standards of national chain steakhouses like Del Frisco's, Ruth's Chris, etc.
Good food. Everyone enjoyed their main course and we really liked the family style vegetables which we passed around so everyone could share.
EXCELLENT service from the floor manager. We spilled a glass of water and it hit a glass of wine causing it to spill. When one of the men in our party backed up to avoid getting hit by flying wine, the legs of his chair gave away. A server two tables away from us turned to see where the commotion was coming from and he spilled several glasses of water in the lap of a man at another table. It was like a slow motion crash! The manager came over quickly. He made sure everyone was okay. Then he exchanged the broken chair for another chair, cleaned the spilled water and wine on several tables, directed the waitress to bring fresh drinks for everyone, and apologized as though it was the restaurant's fault that the incident occurred. Clearly, the owners made a good decision when they left this man in charge of the restaurant.
This was one of our favorite places to go for happy hour and dinner during our trips to Vail. The service has declined considerably. We were seated in the back dining room, where tables were on top of each other, with barely enough room to move between them. The food was average, the price approximately $100 per person, indifferent service, and the ambience of a low cost chain restaurant, Vail Chophouse did not provide the value we had come to expect.
We arrived on time for our reservation and the first table we were shown was in the middle of the bar with many people standing around in loud conversations. Had to push people away just to get to the table. We requested a different table, but were told "the bar was the main dining room." After a little pushing, we finally were shown to a table in another room that was much quieter and pleasant. I was surprised by the décor -- it was a low scale and appeared cheap. Table and chairs looked cheap. For most of us the food was very good, but the atmosphere, given the location at the base of Vail was definitely a lower standard.
The service was good and the magician that came around tableside was fantastic. That is about where the compliments end. The pork chop was way over cooked that it didn't even cut with a knife and while the steak was cooked correctly it had no seasoning at all. When coming to Vail you expect good food so this is not the place to go!
I believe they must have remodeled this restaurant. Last time visiting I remember the dining area to be much more upscale. (?) I was disappointed in the casual vibe, mix of high top and low top tables. Reserved a table here for Christmas Eve dinner and was surprised at the change in ambience. Not a fan of paying $50-60 for a steak and dining in such a causal place. I do have to say though the food was very good. Just wish it was more of an intimate setting.
We came to spend Christmas with our cousin. I wanted to have an excellent meal for Christmas dinner. The Vail Chophouse blew our expectations out of the water. We loved the food, We suggest the Ny Strip!!!!!!

Service SLOW....too many tables, not enough space between!! Fire code in question. Seated by a speaker against a wall, in a corner. NOT what you want for a romantic dinner! Service SLOW!! Food ok had other options should have tried another place for a special occasion
1 - They played live music which was way too loud and rowdy. If you go, go late AFTER the live music is over unless you want a headache.
2 - Service was slow
3 - Prices way too high for what you get. One of the kids meals was horrible and returned but they still charged us for it. Filet was so-so. Can get a better one at Texas Roadhouse for a quarter of the price.
