We have a standing date in the third Tuesday of every month and this time we were three as two were attending a funeral. Vagabond has been in the list I keep of places to try and it didn’t disappoint.
The fried shrimp appetizer were very tasty and a good, light breading that did not overwhelm the flavor.
Entrees consumed were pork chop, mashed potato (no green vegetables) and a muffin. 7/10.
Hamburger with fries, and blackened salmon, and both sandwiches were good, although the fries were a little salty. The salmon was cooked to my liking (not well done) and the burger medium.
That night was apparently open mike night and the downstairs venue looked perfect for entertainment.
A fun place and a fun night.
The food was tasty. Not a large selection but what was provided was great. Waitress accommodated the large party well. Nice atmosphere
Awesome space, food, and customer service! When I looked at the menu I instantly knew grilled pork chops! They did not disappoint, nor did the mashed potatoes, mac-N-cheese, or brussel sprouts!
Came there for dinner and drinks before a show... we had such a good time at Vagabond before the show that after the show we went back for more drinks. Had a blast there, If ever in downtown Richmond again I will make this visit.
I didn’t like that the kitchen closed before 11:00 p.m.. I wanted to order the bread pudding to go.
A solid choice for a downtown meal, especially if you are attending an event at The National. Drinks are pricey but the menu is reasonable. A couple of good vegetarian options. The French fries are delicious! Competent wait staff.
nice place to eat before the concert next door! good food and cozy atmosphereb
Great food! Service was great. Would definitely go back!
Great dinning experience! I will be sure to return in the future to take advantage of the live entertainent. Excellent server!
Food was very good. Wait staff got us to our show at the National on time, though the waitress did disappear for some extended periods of time. Shrimp and grits was sooooooo good!
This was my first time attending Vagabond. The waitress was good, but my food was not. I had the Shepard's pie and it had ZERO flavor. And my Mac and Cheese was cold. The reason we decided to come to Vagabond was b/c the Legacy band was attending, but it wasn't until we got there that we found out that they are in a separate room. Some of my friends dishes were good, but I don't know if I would be in a rush to come back.
It was my first time and I absolutely loved it!! The food, the atmosphere, the service and the live music was outstanding! I will be back! Thank you so much for an awesome time! Many blessings to you all!!!!
The hostess was rude and very inhospitable there are many other establishments I’d prefer to patronize as they value their customers and respect reservations and attention to detail. I was asked to order food to go and sit at the bar, as the bar does not serve food beyond appetizer , which the hostess was unaware of when she asked my party to sit at the bar to wait for a table or eat bar side. This request was unreasonable and far from a venue I will ever return to. Awful service!
We wanted to make sure to support the RVA Black Restaurant experience week and the BIG give event. Dinner was great. It was quite busy but great nonetheless.
Waited over an hour for food and one couple never got their food at all. Will not be back.
I made a reservation and I was 5 minutes late to my surprise I was told by the host that someone else took my reservation and had the same name as me even after confronted with the host the lady still said that was her name and spelled the same way my last name is spelled. Instead of me being treated as if I was the originator of the reservation I was treated with oh well sit wherever you want there's only five minutes left for dinner anyway you won't be able to eat anything off the dinner menu
The young lady in charge of event planning was amazing to work with. I only gave her one day of planning, for my wife’s birthday celebration and she made it happen. Drinks and food were waiting for guests as we planned and the staff were very accommodating. Thanks for a great experience and thanks for making my wife’s birthday special. She loved it!!!!
I was recently there for a show next door with a friend, and the waitress was amazing about letting us know what was quick to order on the menu since the doors to allow restaurant guests in early to the theater was only 45 minutes away.
We split a burger which was yummy and some brussel sprouts that were tasty. The Brussel Sprouts were a tad bit over-roasted but the seasoning and flavor made that easy to overlook. I would definitely recommend as a date place or great for a pre-concert meal.
Vagabond is a cool place and conveniently located next to the National. Disappointed at the short window of time in which restaurant patrons can go to the concert venue directly. My husband really enjoyed his burger. I got shrimp and grits and while flavorful, it was barely warm when I got it. Service was nice but slow.
Slow service. Didn't ask us for a second drink or refill our water or clear plates. Barely made it to our show on time.
Service was poor. Took a while to get in food order. Appetizers took 45 minutes to get to our table so we canceled our dinner order. Server did not come back to check on us for long periods of time and when we tried to pay for our drinks and apps she never came back so we had to give our credit cards to the host up front to check us out.
WE WENT THERE TO GET IN EARLY TO THE NATIONAL FOR A SHOW. WE HAD A SEAT BY THE WINDOW WHICH WAS EXCEPTIONAL SEEING THE OTHER TABLES. OUR WAITRESS WAS EXCELLENT WITH SERVICE. THE ONLY THING I WOULD SUGGEST IS MAYBE A FEW MORE ITEMS ON THE MENU. OVERALL EXCELLENT AND WE WILL GO AGAIN!
Absolutely Beautiful space with great service, food & entertainment. Live music 5 nights a week and excellent location.
Had 6:00 reservations and we were seated promptly. I was concerned whether the crowd and waitstaff would be an issue for us going to the show at 7:30. Our waitress Rihondra (sorry if spelled it wrong) was great, along with all the staff, very pleasant and engaging. We had the the Tomato Bisque soup and fried catfish, with both being exceptional. We will be back.
Food was good, limited menu. It got a little busy as there was a concert that night next door. Servers seemed to be a little overwhelmed.
We had a reservation for 5:30pm Sunday prior to a concert next door at the National. The table was not ready for our party of ten at the appointed time. The party was seated at 5:45. We ordered drinks, and after nearly twenty minutes, I was informed that the bar was unable to make my drink (a sazerac). Drinks were delivered to the rest of the table after this. My drink (now a Manhattan) was brought nearly fifteen minutes later. Our food order wasn’t taken until nearly 6:30, which is when the doors were opening for our show. At 7pm, we began to worry that we were going to miss our show, scheduled for 7:30. We asked for the manager. After 10-15 more minutes, the “manager” appeared. I place this in quotes because I have sincere doubts that this was actually the GM of the restaurant. He was extraordinarily nonchalant about our terrible service and offered to pay for our round of drinks. While this was appropriate, we now needed to leave for the show and had seen no evidence that our food was any where near completion. The “manager” wiped our bill.
This was a disastrous outing in which no one got to eat anything (even starters) and only managed to get one round of drinks in NINETY MINUTES.
We will never walk through the doors of Vagabond again and would recommend it to no one. If I could give the establishment zero stars, I would.
Arrived for our reservation early to an empty restaurant and got the worst table in the house (next to the elevator). Very disappointing. Food was just okay. Service was just okay. Also, we were told we would have early access to the National (which is why we booked there) but at the last minute they changed their mind on and didn't allow. We ended up standing out in the cold waiting to get in to the show. Not very professional.
Good was excellent ! I had the pasta with shrimp and it was the best I’ve ever had. Husband had burger and also said it was excellent.
The food was good. We had a limited menu due to the early entry program that lets you into the neighbor National theater before anyone not eating at Vagabond, what a plus! I had catfish cornbread greens and Mac and cheese. No room for dessert but the bread pudding sounded great. Then we were escorted into the theatre to take our pick of the general admission. Seats. What a great evening.
It was my families first time there. We had a great server, good food, managment was very personable, enjoyed the live band. We plan on returning.
Very poor experience, made a reservation for a large party, they ran out of food, alcohol and condiments. Server was very flustered and had a poor attitude. Would not recommend this place for dinner due to awful service.
Hi Larelle, I am sorry to hear about your experience. May I ask which food, alcohol and condiments were not at your disposal? Both floors were very busy and hiccups might arise but I would like to learn more from your end. I look forward to hearing your response. Respectfully, Jimmy Budd
Very cool service and nice waiters and waitresses !
The food was good and the live DJ downstairs made for a good time out celebrating a birthday.
Service was good however long waits for cocktails as the server said bar upstairs was busy. Then Need more staff and bar downstairs to serve drinks during peak times
Enjoyed it . Very good service. Food was also awsome
Beautiful decor and great chill vibe. The food was delicious and our server was awesome! She was very attentive and had great energy. Will definitely be back!
Food was great, service was lacking.
One of the worst dining experiences of our lives...service was horrible.. very small menu and they were out of 2 of the main entrée options. Beer was flat and taps don't seem to be cleaned out...the said they were tapping a new keg but never brought fresh beers for us or the table next to us...didn't seem to have a server for our section. Each time a waiter brought out a tray to our section, they had no idea which table the food belonged to- had to walk up and down and ask everyone if that was their order! Very poorly managed and a frustrating experience. We got our food 1 hour and 15 minutes after our reservation.... will never go back
Short staffed on a night when Trans-Siberian Orchestra was in town. They were not prepared. I’ll leave it there.
Besides not having the table ready, everything else was great. The staff was great. Made me feel welcome. Had a wonderful birthday celebration. I will definitely be back.
