We tried Va Bene for the first time on Monday, March 20, 2017. Unfortunately there was a flood in the restaurant section that day so we were forced to dine in the bar area. Perhaps the staff was a bit overwhelmed from the day but we were seated without silverware/napkins when we had to ask several times for, finally given utensils and napkins after receiving our meal. I had made a reservation indicating it was a birthday get-together however no mention was made about the birthday. Also, we were not presented with a dessert menu after eating, nor were we asked if we wanted dessert. The food was very good but I was disappointed by the experience due to the service we received.
Food was outstanding always looking for new places to try and enjoy!! We would be happy to return for a great evening!!
Food and service were very good. The wine list was also extensive.
New find and LOVE it...Looking forward to going back very soon.
This is truly a hidden gem. Featured on a previous episode of Check Please AZ and just had to try it...we were not disappointed! Wonderful food, great atmosphere, superb service, the list goes on.
We will be back often!
A simply superb evening
Had cocktails before dinner
Bartender is 5*, chardonnay perfect temperature
Table ready precisely on time
Veal was perfect
Wife loved mushroom soup
We got there when the restaurant opened. They were clearly not ready for customers. My husband went to the bathroom and had to turn on the lights himself. He had only turned on one set of lights. When he went to the bathroom again at the end of the meal, it was still just the one set of lights on, meaning no employees had gone in there to make sure the lights were on in the bathroom, and that was more than an hour after the restaurant had opened. There were employees sitting at the bar folding napkins during our meal. Someone (the host, I think) was walking back and forth with canisters of lighter fluid near our table. It was unclear who our server was supposed to be. The bartender took our order at first and he had to ask for it again because he couldn't remember everything. A woman seemed to notice that no one was taking care of us and started tending to us more. It was pretty awkward altogether. Service was still slow. The food was only okay. This place calls itself a martini bar, yet they do not have a martini menu. How strange. A couple who was seated after us got their meals before us somehow. How did they get their meals faster than us if we were there first? The food was only okay. Mussels were tough. Lamb shanks were flavorless. The worst thing is that after we had gotten our meals boxed, paid the check and left, I noticed that not all of my food was in my box. I ordered the lamb shanks. It is supposed to have 2 shanks. I hadn't even finished one shank, but noticed only one shank was in the box. Why would they toss perfectly good meat instead of putting it in my box? I was really angry. We will not be coming here again.
Preference in service was clearly given to "regulars." Our food took over 40 minutes to be served which was definitely mich longer than historic wait times. My husband and I had to ask for refills on our drinks as well since the wait staff was busy keeling their regulars happy. Usually great service here so this was a slightly disappointing visit. Food was still excellent, however.
Nice selection and everyone in our party enjoyed their selection. We were in a quiet area which worked well for our group of 6.
I loved the decor, modern art with cozy colors is a nice mix.
Great daddy daughter dance dinner on Friday with my 2 daughter
Everything was very nice. The food and service was excellent. I would definitely dine here again and recommend it to friends.
Our friends arrived first. They were told we had no Open Table reservation. No problem, however. We were the only ones there on a Wednesday at 1:00 pm. The food was salty and ordinary. I will not return. My husband found it more adequate but wasn't enamored either.
The food was ok nothing special. A very crowded dated room. Tables are very close to each other. The happy hour is very good here. So I would do happy hour and skip dinner
Always the best. It's our neighborhood very night out!
The food overall is excellent. Service is okay. Don't bother with the Caesar salad. Appetizers are excellent. Best tiramisu I have ever had!! A little overpriced
Third time at Va Bene, always great service and very good food. It's a 40 mile drive for us but worth it for a date night or nice dinner with friends.
First time there. Food was excellent but the service was a little spotty. Had issues seating us and then we were ignored for a while. Food was lighter than traditional Italian. Portions were plentiful & prices reasonable. Would recommend a reservation.
Great little Italian place with an energetic bar, food and service was great.
Food was ok. Not outstanding. Service was excellent. Gets very crowded when band plays. Entertaining disco music. Smaller than small dance floor. Looks like outdoor seating would be good in warmer weather.
great food, good service, nice ambience, well located lots of parking available, great wine bar
We saw this restaurant reviewed on Check Please and decided to try it. So happy we did. The service was fantastic. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive. The owner or manager also stopped by the table to make sure everything was ok. Bread and seasoned butter was excellent. My husband and I shared a salad which was very good. And plenty for two. We had two different pasta dishes and both were exceptionally good. You can tell that things are fresh and made to order. Can't wait to return to try different dishes.
We have eaten at Va Bene 5 or 6 times over the past few years and always enjoyed the quality of the food. Service is generally good, although sometimes they make you feel a bit rushed. Last evening, I had my first real disappointment at the restaurant. My husband and I ordered a bottle of wine, and a salad to share before ordering our entrees. When the bill came, we had been charged a split plate fee of $2.00 for the side salad which cost $7.95! We dine out a lot and have never been charged a split plate fee for a side salad. I know that many restaurants charge a split fee for entrees, and that's perfectly understandable, but for a side salad it's just plain wrong! Especially as we each had a full entree for dinner. When I asked the waiter about it, he said it was a new policy which wasn't even on the menu yet! So that made it doubly irritating. There's no way for you to know in advance and they still charged us. For heaven's sake, just bring the salad and an extra plate and I'll do it myself. At the very least, he should have removed that $2.00 charge when I questioned it. He did not offer to do so. I'm just alerting other diners out there to beware of this now when you may start your dinner with a salad to share. And I'm hoping the restaurant reads this as well, as I know the owners of Va Bene are good folks and would want to know of any unhappy diners.
An amazing fun place with great food and reasonable prices. Depending on the band playing will determine the atmosphere of the evening. When there are 70's-80's rock bands there the bar is super fun and hopping. I wish the owner would be a bit more consistent with the bands. Great bands means making more money for this restaurant. I love this place I go there all the time. 🎉👍😊
Excellent food and service. Chef mage me something that wasn't on the menu that I asked for. Was delicious!
Nice Atmosphere, good main pasta dishes, good services... Busy night so salad was made earlier & soggy....
Authentic Italian food. Excellent flavors. Great selection. Good service.
Very nice find on Groupon. Food was delicious and service was great! Will visit again!
As the only patrons around 5pm on a Sunday service should have been exceptional. It wasn't. Our server never came by to ask how our soup was, or if we wanted fresh cheese added to it. My wife approached him at the front of the restaurant cleaning menus and chatting with other co-workers. That's when he brought us cheese, after we hunted him down. Remember, we were the only patrons at this point. After our entrees were delivered he ignored us again, only coming by to top off our wine but we were finished with our entrees. As for the food, blah. My seafood soup had about 3 pieces of chewy shrimp in it and the broth quite honestly tasted like Campbell's tomato soup. My wife's gnocchi was too soft and bland, and my pasta overdone.
Meh. My wife's pasta dish was basically soup poured over noodles. The mussels sauce was great, but there weren't many mussels in there. I had the stuffed pork, which was pretty good. On a scale of 1-10 in importance, global warming and Aleppo being 10s, restaurant rating is about a 0.2. We're very grateful for being in a position to be able to eat at nice restaurants, and write about them in venues like this. For Va Bene, however, Italian restaurants have to get pasta right. This place didn't. We're one and done.
Poor service by wait staff.
This was a very nice restaurant. I enjoyed everyone and the food. My waiters were very knowledgeable and took time to provide my party and I some history of the restaurant. I came to this location due to other reviews. I wanted to celebrate my wife birthday in a romantic setting along with my best-friend who is more like a sister. I couldn't be more happier and would definitely recommend this location to others. It was worth every moment.
Staff was vey attentive with great service, food was excellent. What was really great was accommodation for a large group for last minute reservations. Other business that was called would not even attempt.
We were really disappointed in the service. We were seated right away but it took almost an hour to get our dinner. When our dinner finally arrived it was barely warm. We had to flag our waiter down to ask him to reheat it. I could tell he was not too happy about. The waiter was not attentive at all either. We asked for some butter for the table and he never brought it. He never came by to refill our drinks or check on us. And he did not ask if we wanted coffee at the end of the meal.
The food was just OK. I had pasta that was somewhat pasty (probably because it had to be reheated) but the sauce was good. My husband had veal which he did not want reheated for fear it would get dried out so he ate his dinner cold.
We've been a few times and the food was always good and hot. But after this experience we are giving up on VaBene.
The food is amazing! Best meal out we have had in a long time! And a great value! Our new favorite!
Not good. Bread boring. Sauce boring. Soup of day blah. Just not good at all
It was for my sister and I's birthday and they didn't recognize that. It was super hot, took forever just to get menus. We also had to ask for water refills. For a $200 tab they should of and could of done better. I suggest going somewhere else if you're not trying to celebrate anything.
Amazing service and the staff was impeccable. Food was very good but not outstanding.
Best Fettuccine Alfredo I have ever had! Nice ambiance, great service, great find!
Our meals were excellent! Highly recommend the stuffed pork chop. Rhe flavor and tenderness of the pork was amazing! We sat in the bar and th atmosphere was entertaining and dun. Our waiter was helpful with meal selection.
Awesome pasta and great service! Good place for a date night or special occasion.
