Came here for our second anniversary as what I call our “one night out a year.” I love to drag him to vegan restaurants that are a little “nicer” than we are used to, so the casual but classy atmosphere here was comfortable.
The food was AMAZING. I don’t have a single complaint as far as taste, texture, smell, anything! I’m an avid review-reader so I was prepared for a tapas style dinner. Between the two of us we had three plates, which was enough to fill both of us up. We had the potatoes (YUM), the cauliflower & the tacos. It was all pretty delicious, but we were raving about the potatoes still for hours after we left. We were half-joking that next time we should just get three orders of the potatoes and nothing else. They were a level of deliciousness I don’t think I’ve ever experienced in my two years as a vegan.
The service was fast & attentive but not super involved which was preferred. The host was really nice and accommodating when I needed to push my reservation back an hour and a half.
The few reasons I have to give four stars instead of five are not deal breakers but sadly enough to bump a star:
The music was way too loud. I understand that it is a fun casual environment, but there were a lot of tables and everyone seemed to be screaming over the music. I could hardly hear my boyfriend from across the table. It killed the mood a bit.
The cocktail I ended up getting, the Oaxacan Blvd, wasn’t great. It tasted more like water downed alcohol than a cocktail. It was disappointing for the price, but I had expected this from reading reviews as well.
Lastly, and the least important, the tables were super close together I almost felt like I was having dinner with the couple next to us. I could hear all the details of their conversation, not helped by the fact that everyone had to scream over the music. My boyfriend actually bumped the table next to us trying to squeeze in.
Overall, it was GREAT and I would recommend it to anyone, vegan & omni alike.
V Street was FANTASTIC! It is a Vegan restaurant, but you do not need to be one to enjoy the food. It was wonderful. Enjoyed all food I ate and the drinks were Sumptuous . When you are in Philadelphia, this is a must go to place to eat.
Amazing food and diverse menu options. Its hard to believe everything was vegan, one of the best meals I have had in Philly.
Delicious and innovative food! We loved the za'atar corn, market greens, piri tofu, and tempeh tacos. If you are ordering just one thing (but why would you?), get the tacos!
I was so relieved when our server told us that a table of four should order almost everything on the menu. It would have been tough to choose. I loved everything we ordered, but the fattoush, the market greens and the piri piri tofu were possibly my favorites. Unless the cauliflower or the grilled carrot salad was my favorite.
Extremely loud and Incredibly close - but food was 'out of this world'
Second time here. Loved the carrot salad and the kabobs, but the much-touted tacos were dry and kind of tasteless. Too bad. Also, $4 for a skinny glass of iced tea and $3 for a refill of same was very pricy.
Absolutely incredible food!
Delicious! Three non-vegans from NYC were visiting me (a vegan) in Philly and they couldn't stop talking about how great the food was. Wonderful service too.
Awesome vegan/vegetarian place. Love their Kimchi tempeh tacos. People rave about the dan dan noodles but I dare say that the tacos are even better! Get the Peruvian fries too.
The people were friendly, the waiter was great and the food was dreamy.
Great date, specially for vegetarians. If it was flavorful and happy and everyone was extremely friendly. Small table size and a little bit cramped were the only issues.
Delicious vegetarian food, nice drink options. Casual feel but great food.
The desserts were amazing. And as always, the Peruvian fries were a huge hit! Hope they never take that off the menu.
The food at v-street was very different from the usual fare. We were a party of four. The menu had about 12 dishes and our server recommended 2 to 3 dishes per person. We ordered most of the menu. The most outstanding dishes were the corn and the cauliflower. The tacos and the tofu were also excellent. The potatoes were very good. Nothing we had was bad. The flavors were intense in a very good way. All in all we enjoyed our experience and would definitely return.
Dinner was fantastic - lots of plates to share and the flavors were out of this world. Cauliflower was best I've had anywhere!! But truly there is something for everyone!
Experienced lunch here. It was not too crowded but service was still kind of slow. The food was excellent and worth the slow service. It definitely is loud here and we were there for lunch. I can't even imagine how loud it gets when it's a full house at dinner. I'm not sure that I would want to dine here for dinner because I really think you would have to be yelling at each other to talk across the table.
Loved the complex flavors of all the dishes we tried (6 in 2 days). One serious flaw: every single dish was over-salted (an issue many plant-based restaurants have). Please note: more salt does NOT translate into better taste. Pls allow customers to salt to their own taste.
Excellent, high quality food. The dishes are so diverse and bold. It's pricey for the portions but it's worth it. And the desserts are so unique!
The dishes are small so if you go with a few people, order a bunch of dishes and share them all. They have a great beer list. Do NOT skip dessert here. They have soft serve of the day that always sounds amazing and they have a caramel, sriracha, peanut waffle with banana gelato that is phenomenal. It doesn't sound like it makes sense but just trust me and order it....you'll thank me later!
Amazing food and great service. This place is LOUD though, don't come at peak hours if you're not into screaming.
My daughter and I enjoyed our dinner at V St. She has been vegetarian for many years and I've recently begun exploring veganism. Our server was wonderful at answering questions about ingredients we were not familiar with. We ordered 5 dishes and each one was wonderful. Although most of the dishes had many ingredients, they all melded to produce delicious results.
I really can't decide on a favorite. I loved the za'ater grilled corn and peruvian fries. The seitan kebab and carrot asado salad were refreshing and the greens in each were different an delicious. We rounded out the meal with chilled kung pao noodles.
It's not a huge menu, but still there were dishes I was disappointed not to be able to try. So we'll be back!!
The single worst dining experience I have ever had. Receptionist was not friendly, tables
are too crowded, too noisy and food was overcooked. This is the only negative review I
have ever written and I dine out frequently. I would never dine there again.
I'm not vegan, but I was impressed and enthralled with the variety and quality of the food here! Everything was just right and incredibly flavorful. Would definitely come back!
Really enjoyed our meal, selected V-Street based on a review in the Washington Post - we were not disappointed. The service was friendly and patience. I am by no means a vegetarian, as my wife is, but we enjoyed the food immensely and look forward to another dinner next time we are in town. That said, I would have rated the Ambiance higher if not for the fact that the A/C was not working/working well that evening, the temperature was well above comfortable.
Food is fabulous! Service is terrific. It is way too loud for easy conversation.
Some of the best food I've ever eaten and wonderful service!
I am consistenly wowed by the quality, creativity, and sheer deliciousness of the food here, as well as the warmth, care, and professionalism of its staff. We live over three hours away, but every few months we make a point of coming to Philadelphia to eat at this remarkable restaurant.
We ordered everything on the menu and it was awesome. Everything was delicious and a great value. More hip and youthful crowd than Vedge and the food was just as good.
I do t drink alcohol so can't comment on bar or wine list but food was a fabulous treat. It was very loud however. There was a nearby table of rowdy folks and the music was a little loud.
Wonderful food, drinks, and service! We had to order 4 or 5 dishes since the portion sizes were so small but that just made it more fun to try everything, and the desserts were especially good!
Great choices for a vegetarian! Loved the flavours and take on fusion food
Delicious food!!! :)
Great waiter and flavorful food.Strengths were beet mushroom and tacos. Weaknesses were wines which we disliked immensely and rapid pace of food presentation. Looking forward to Vedge
Always a great meal at V-Street! I wish I could go even more often.
Service was outstanding-- cocktails were the bees knees. Food was great!
I went to dinner with a colleague. We both like vegan food. V Street Cafe was the perfect choice. The items were very flavorful. The menu is pretty short and the wine list is limited. Tables are close together and it is noisy. The service was wonderful. We liked everything we tried. It's small plates, so you can share. Highly recommended.
We love that even though Vedge was full that the owners created another option in Philly. Love the location and the intimate setting. Same great/speedy service as Vedge as well - win. Small but diverse international menu and of course, is all vegan. Good cocktails and beer list, can't wait to return.
It's easy to go into a vegetarian/vegan restaurant thinking that the food should "be good for vegeterian food," as if you have to lower your standards in order to not be disappointed by the fake, wanna-be-good-enough- for-omnivores food. However, V-Street's food is just plain damn good. period. Not, good-for-vegetarian-food, but just good, delicious, amazing food. I had their kimchi taco and I think it just might be one of the best tacos I've had in my life!
This is my absolute favorite restaurant on the planet. The food is imaginative (who puts sprouted basil seeds on a dessert?!), unique, and beyond delicious. I've brought carnivore friends who have loved it as well. Finally, the portions are quite reasonable and you get good value for your dining dollar.
