Perfect place for a fantastic dinner in Murphy's California.
Great bar and great atmosphere.
Always enjoy the coziness of this restaurant on a cold Winter’s night. Our hearty meals of prime rib and rack of Lam were delicious and LARGE.
As was the grilled romaine salad and Jack Daniels ice cream for dessert.
Thanks for making it a wonderful holiday meal for my son and I.
Dates with blue cheese, wrapped on bacon is a must! Great cocktails. Had the duck, it was delicious.
Wonderful service, food was fresh and the outdoor space is great. Try the ahi salad - better than expected. Staff is friendly & knowledgeable. Good for groups & couples. Prices are comparable to the Bay Area. Would definitely return next time in Murphys!
Scotty at the bar greeted us with the warmest welcome followed by a fabulous dinner. We had the BEST wedge salad we have ever had! I would drive 2 hours just for that again, but the Mahi Mahi was fabulous as well.
Great spot. The new chef is doing good things. Looking forward to the next visit.
We had a delicious anniversary dinner and all who served us were warm, attentive- but just the right amount- welcoming, great service and staff all around! Delicious yummy food. Perfect ambiance! Will definitely recommend and return!!!
The food was tasty but not complex. Had to pay for bread which I did not appreciate. The owner is a little stuffy.
My husband and I were there on SUnday for our 35th Anniversary. It was the best experience in dining that we've had in forever! The wedge salad using grilled romaine, was genius. The duck was amazing especially with the cherries on the side. The enrtire experience was well worth the money and would definitely do it again!
Fabulous meal for our date night on a Sunday...married 41 years and still enjoy our dates! The old fashioned was wonderful as well as the grapefruit martini. The stuffed dates and fried anchovies olives were warm and superb. The spinach beet salad was delicious. The local red wine was hearty and yummy! We had the duck breast and ribeye and they were cooked to perfection as well as the sides. They provided my husband with many gluten free options for the side dishes. We finished with the chocolate tort and ice cream and coffee. Can’t wait till next trip!
Overall the restaurant was good but it seemed a little understaffed and the wait time for the food seemed to take a little longer. The drinks were my least favorite thing about the restaurant. My salad was underwhelming but my main course was delicious! The waiter and staff are very friendly. I would give this place another chance if back in town.
Service (Matthew and Mark) and food (dates, beet salad, roasted chicken, salmon, bread pudding, Newsome zin and especially the manhattan) was very good. Would definitely come back.
My wife and I had a great dinner at the V restaurant on a Sunday night. We had an outdoor table which was nice. Food was excellent, our server was very friendly and entertaining. The local wine was very nice. We had a very enjoyable evening and will come back the next time we are in Murphys.
Disappointed because they combined their Bistro restaurant and fine dining menus. Different entry doors and seating but same menu. I had identified an entree on the website but since this recent change they pared down the menu. Not very busy for a Friday night so we ended up sitting in the small dining room alone. My husband loved the duck and I had the salmon which was done nicely but boring accompaniments. We started with a special appetizer of ceviche which was shrimp and halibut with an avocado/salsa dressing. It was good but way too much for 2 people.
Very good food, although a few more choices would be nice . Not a lot, just a few. Matthew, the waiter was great. Dessert was wonderful...flourless chocolate torte. Certainly would dine with you again.
Unfortunately, this restaurant is less with impressive each visit, and this will be our last. The duck was almost cold when served, and it was served with what appeared to be jelly from a jar. The creme brulee which we had for desert had the caramelized sugar that was burnt nearly black.
Amazing food & top notch service. Everything was beautiful. And if you bring your own Calaveras County made wine, it’s only $5 corkage fee!
There for dinner and seated at an odd configuration table for 4, completely off, no chance of conversation, kind of a wide U. This should never be a table option. They were very accommodating about moving us outside however. Salad special was delicious, fish special was delicious. Items ordered off menu were a little too much ‘pre-done’. Dessert was only average. Service was excellent.
Our waiter was beyond rude and the food was not good at all. Very disappointed with overall experience. Will not be going back!
The specials were great: the Caprese salad with heirloom tomatoes and fresh mozzarella cheese with balsamic fig vinaigrette was excellent. Try the anchovy stuffed olives that are lightly deep fried.
Rib special was awful. Swordfish salad was good. outdoor seating was nice.
We looked forward to dinner after reviewing their menu on line. We were told that they had changed their menu the week prior and were no longer serving those items. Ordered a Caesar salad. It was not tossed and the lettuce was so dry that I choked. A friend ordered ribs which were boiled then covered with sauce. Not a good experience. Won’t be back.
Our server was fantastic - friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food, however, was fair. The brussel sprouts were so oily I cannot recommend them. Also, a different server came to our table to ask if we were interested in dessert. He listed only one dessert, and then it turns out he was wrong, the restaurant did not have that dessert, and they were out of most of the desserts they were supposed to have.
We assumed this was a fine dining resturaunt, but in our opinion it wasn't. We found the menu to be limited in regard to fine dining entrees; typically you don't find tacos on a fine dining menu. Anyway, in addition to the abundance of flys, the food was just OK. Our $40 filets lacked good cooking technique. Won't be back.
We were the last seating on a Sunday night and they treated us like we were the first - great service, not rushed, offered options to accommodate dietary needs. Matthew is a gem; his service level and personality were charming.
Thoroughly enjoyed the great friendly service by Mark and team. We loved our stuffed dates, Fillet Poivre and creative cocktails. A lovely jewel of a restaurant.
This place is great! Matthew was such a gracious host. He made us feel like old friends. Great attitude and appears to love what he does. If not, he needs to be an actor. He made it a great experience for the two of us! Cheers to you Matthew!
We sat in the patio which was pretty comfortable given the 100 degree weather. (Thank-you, misters.) The server warned us about flies but I didn't think it was much of a problem, given a hot evening in the foothills of the Sierra. Service was friendly. Food was OK...not great but good enough. I'd come back. It's a good place to come before going to the local theater.
My wife and I regularly celebrate our birthdays and anniversary at the V restaurant.
Friends of ours had visited the restaurant a few years ago and highly recommended that we try it if we were ever in the area. Located in the Victoria Inn, the inn operates as a B&B with a casual fare bistro (the V Bistro and Bar) and a more formal dining room (the V Restaurant and Bar). But don’t be put off by my use of the word “formal” — we came attired in shorts, polo shirts, and sandals, although dressier clothes would be equally acceptable.
We dined early (5:30) on a Thursday evening, and began our meal with a glass of Stevenot Bella Vita rosé for my husband and a Black Manhattan for me. I’m a big fan of Manhattans and learned long ago that one way to enhance the drink (in addition to using top-shelf or near-to-top-shelf bourbon/rye and vermouth) is to use Luxardo cherries as a garnish. Well, the V came through with one of the best tasting Manhattans ever — Makers Mark, Averna Amaro, Peychaud’s Bitters, and not one but two Luxardo black cherries. A perfect beginning.
On to appetizers. Normally we have either appetizers or desserts, not both, so a decision had to be made early on as to which way to go. We were intrigued by the description and our server’s recommendation of the “Devils on Horseback” and agreed to split one plate. Which we did, and enjoyed every single bite.
Entrées: Seafood aficionado husband had the pan seared salmon with the risotto and succotash, accompanied by a second glass of the aforementioned rosé, and I had the maple leaf duck breast with savory bread pudding, brown butter asparagus, and luxardo cherry reduction, paired with, per our server’s recommendation, a glass of Stevenot Duetto. Both entrées were perfectly prepared and presented.
Dessert: We shared a dish of lemon sorbet, an excellent way to top off a simply marvelous meal.
In summary, the V is a restaurant that we thoroughly enjoyed and one we would heartily recommend to even our most discriminating “foodie” friends. We will definitely return the next time we’re in the area.
My husband ordered duck. Twenty minutes after we ordered we were told they were out of duck. Our reservations were early. Disappointing.
The food was delicious and the chef was very creative. It was our first time dining at this restaurant and we both highly recommend it.
We always love taking out of town guests to the V. The food is amazing, the service over the top and we never have a bad experience there!
Thank God our waiter was good is all I can say! Got there at 8:30 and dinner arrived at 10:15. Obviously there was an issue in the kitchen. I’ve been there before and not had this problem.
I have been at V Restaurant a couple of times, and enjoyed food and service. The recent visit left me disappointed. My party and I had to wait to be greeted and seated. The duck was dry, and stuffing seemed to be prepared several days before. Salmon was too raw. Fortunately, wine was still good.
Great service and great food. Everyone should give this place a go.
Always great food and service. Never disappointed. Everyone in our group loved their choices.
everything was great—service, ambience, local wines, appetizer of fried olives and bacon wrapped dates, duck salad—although our entre had to be sent back as the pasta was mushy and inedible. very friendly server. brought us a chocolate birthday dessert.
Great food; best restaurant in Murphys!
