Urbana Dining & Drinks Ratings and Reviews
We were looking for a good casual place to celebrate our wedding anniversary, which was noted in our reservation but never acknowledged by the staff. I wasn’t expecting special treatment, but good service would have been nice. They restaurant appeared to have one waitress for the entire dining area, along with several people to help deliver and collect plates. The servers seemed to have no understanding of what was ordered or how it should have been served. Appetizers came before cocktails, bread came after appetizers, wine came 10 minutes after the entrees (with two reminders), and water glasses ran dry. Then we waited another 20 minutes to track down and pay the check. It was chaotic and definitely not how anyone would want to celebrate a special occasion. I hope the restaurant was just overwhelmed that evening, but the experience was so tedious that we will not return. It is also very loud - management should restructure their staffing model and invest in some noise reduction options. Overall, a very disappointing experience.
Ate here 3 times during our Kimpton stay, it was that good! Authentic, creative pasta dishes, clearly an excellent chef because everything we ordered was phenomenal! Cool vibrant atmosphere, great for date or special occasion. Will definitely be back on our next DC trip!
Went to Urbana to meet friends. It happened to be about halfway on the metro between where we where staying and our friends apartment. It's pretty close to the DuPont Circle stop, so it was convenient. The food was great, service was a bit slow. Bar looked nice although we didn't sit there. It's in the hotel Palomar, one of the Kimpton Hotels. Some of our party had pasta and a few had the roast chicken, everyone felt the food was great. No one was drinking, but it looks like they have a nice bar.
The food was delicious. I had a pasta stuffed with butternut squash and topped with speck and I added shrimp. Just incredible. My husband had a pasta with artichokes that was so flavorful. Wine was mediocre, not special , pricey for what it was. The service was great. Our waitress was so personable and gave us great suggestions. She told me to add the shrimp to my entree. The atmosphere was a little diner like on the restaurant side except with dim lights. It’s a lower level so you see people’s feet when they walk by because the windows are at street level. There was a bar seen on the opposite side. I guess because it is in a hotel . The ambience looked good there with sofas and nice seating.
They also have a pizza bar which looks fun and a small private room in the back. I would go back again because the food was creative, seasonal and delicious.
Honestly we all had pizza and it was just alright and overpriced. The crust was too hard. There was more than 75% of the tables empty on a Friday night, so that in retrospect was a bad sign. Considering it was so empty we had to ask our waitress several times for things such as more water. If you're hungry it's a decent place, but there are so many places that you could go to instead. I would never go back.
Urbana has developed some very unique and exciting cocktails that pair well with their new menu. The staff is friendly and helpful. The mix of flavors in the dishes is superb. They grow some of the ingredients right here on top of the Kimpton Hotel Palomar!
Great dinner at Urbana, which we found after a short search on OpenTable... tucked away down a small staircase it opens into a vibrant dining room... our server was great, my shrimp & the swordfish was great, and the other three that made up my table left clear plates! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Urbana.
I was very surprised with the quality of my experience during Saturday Brunch last Saturday. I have been to Urbana many times before in the past and had an amazing experiences. I mistakenly recommended this restaurant as the place to celebrate a friends birthday. I was embarrassed about my recommendation. The food quality was not at all the same. Wish I kept my reservation at another neighboring restaurant in Dupont Circle.
Went for brunch this weekend and it was great! Bellinis were half off, so we got bottomless bellinis for $8.50 each, which is unheard of! Food was very good as well; the lemon ricotta pancakes were wonderful and the eggs benedict were not traditional but were good. The only downside was that it was really quiet and there was no music so lively conversation didn't feel appropriate. By the time we left, it was more full and less noticeable. Would definitely go again!
I've been to Urbana a few times for brunch before, and this experience was about the same as my others. The service is very slow, but everything else makes up for it. The food is absolutely amazing and I love the mix-your-own bellinis. A couple of other things about the service were a little off - first bottle of prosecco came out at room temperature and so did the coffee. They do keep the prosecco coming, so as long as all you need is good food and bottomless drinks, Urbana is definitely the place to go!
I commend the restaurant for providing the requested private room for my party of twelve. The selection of wine was very good. My guests who had the house made pasta said it was excellent but the portions a little small. The pizza was also considered very good. The service was timely, not rushed or slow with Geo and his group doing a really good job. My only complaint was that the octopus was over cooked and two of us agreed. The artichokes and brussel sprouts were too salty with too much oil. I would recommend the restaurant but would probably order differently.
I was disappointed with the service. Kitchen took sooooo looooong to prepare our meal and the server made no effort to check back with us to offer an explanation. We live in the neighborhood and could be regulars but not likely to return. In addition, while it's a casual place, the hostess could take more care to project a more professional appearance. It is the first impression and it was NOT good.
