The mussels appetizer is great. The scallops over rising was delicious. Presentations and service is memorable. Will return.
Our server was excellent, providing good advice on wines and checking on us frequently. Unfortunately, the restaurant was changing beer selections, and several items requested were unavailable. Again, though, our server provided good suggestions along with a couple of options to sample and we ended up very happy with our final choice. The cheeseboard and house salad were flavorful, but the entrees were a bit dull. The tagliattelle's bolognese had nice heat but lacked flavor, and the margherita pizza's sauce was bland.
Food, drinks, and service was amazing! We had a private dining room with exceptional service. My favorite was the scallops.
We love the mimosas!
The staff at this restaurant was fantastic. Full on excellent customer service from start to finish.
Unfortunately, Urbana turned out to be a huge disappointment. I should have gone with my gut after reading some of the reviews. I was shocked at how small the restaurant is. Never expected that. My second impression immediately was that it was not clean. Sticky floors, dirty counters as you enter, super sticky tabletop. I was really turned off and would have left if I had not been traveling for seven hours and had no idea where else to go on a Friday night, 7pm on a very busy DC weekend.
Food was so-so and the menu is very limited so consider that before reserving. For example, only one choice of salad and it was not even a simple preparation but one with nuts and more nuts.
Urbana is pretty much all about cocktails and pizza.
Fabulous staff that should be commended for sure!
The food was good. That is what is important. Pizza was really good and pasta dish was delicious. Small-ish menu so it was easier to decide on what to get, which is good for someone as indecisive as myself.
I will note though that the service was slow (as seen in other posts). I didn't think that would be an issue, seeing as how it was a date and time was by no means of the essence, but waiting for a drink can really drag an experience down. And even for a tall guy, the chairs are too low for the table... and the table... couldn't even touch it, it was so sticky. Throw a fresh coat of lacquer on those black painted tables for pete's sake.
At the end of the day though, I'd recommend it.
Food was mediocre for the price. Service was horribly slow.
Pizza was the only thing we found up to par. The rest did not taste great.
Greeter told us the Open Tabe reservation wasn’t received due to staffing shortage. So she pushed two high tops together in the bar area. Tables were dirty. Very noisy. Took 20 minutes for drinks to arrive because “we ran out of eggs” (?) Food overpriced and bland.
It used to be much better a few years ago, was not a fan of the ambience, service - and the table was dirty. Food is good though.
A very enjoyable early Valentine's day dinner! Appreciated the server's wine recommendation and were quite satisfied with our meals.
Our server was extremely unattentive and it took a long time for the food to come out even though the resturant wasn't busy. We were told that there was a party going on, but it wasn't an excuse for the terrible service and unattentiveness. The food was decent, but our waitress and the very very slow service completely ruined our experience.
Service was very poor
They handled our group of ten extremely well. I’ve always liked the cocktails and food at Urbana and this time was no exception.
This was an exceptional dining experience. We started with a margherit pizza which was delicious! We then sampled each other's plates from the delectable truffle pasta, the perfectly cooked steak, to the incredible lobster ravioli. We came here because we had a gift certificate, but we will return for the amazing food and great service!
Ambiance was the best thing about the expience. No major complaints except they were out of chicken meatballs appetizer already at 7:30 pm. Likely b/c the other appetizer options are not that appetizing. I had the lobster raveoli. Little flavorless and pasty sauce. Lobster was tough. Had a hot toddy which was good on a cold wintery night.
Urbana is consistently outstanding! The staff, the presentation, the ingredients...and of course, the dessert.
We sat at the bar for brunch. The service was great and the food was excellent. Had the lump crab scramble and it was delicious! I would definitely get it again. The mimosas were made correctly (more bubbly than juice) and offered various types of juices to mix with.
Brunch probably should’ve taken 30 minutes but the service was poor and we were there forever. We had to go up to the server several times because it was taking so long.
Unfortunately we would not recommend this restaurant. The ambience is tired, table was dirty, and service very slow. Fresh pasta was good but way too much butter and oil. Hope they see the obvious and make changes.
Amanda was our server and she was wonderful. We enjoyed 3 pizzas (smoked prosciutto was amazing) as well as the tagliatelle and muscles. The only thing we didn’t love was the chocolate cake.
We were looking for a good casual place to celebrate our wedding anniversary, which was noted in our reservation but never acknowledged by the staff. I wasn’t expecting special treatment, but good service would have been nice. They restaurant appeared to have one waitress for the entire dining area, along with several people to help deliver and collect plates. The servers seemed to have no understanding of what was ordered or how it should have been served. Appetizers came before cocktails, bread came after appetizers, wine came 10 minutes after the entrees (with two reminders), and water glasses ran dry. Then we waited another 20 minutes to track down and pay the check. It was chaotic and definitely not how anyone would want to celebrate a special occasion. I hope the restaurant was just overwhelmed that evening, but the experience was so tedious that we will not return. It is also very loud - management should restructure their staffing model and invest in some noise reduction options. Overall, a very disappointing experience.
Ate here 3 times during our Kimpton stay, it was that good! Authentic, creative pasta dishes, clearly an excellent chef because everything we ordered was phenomenal! Cool vibrant atmosphere, great for date or special occasion. Will definitely be back on our next DC trip!
First time-the food lived up to the reviews. We will be back!
Amazing food and service! Testaurant in our hotel but def not a "hotel" restaurant-cool ambience!
A very good meal and service was great even though they were short staffed on the night we went.
Went to Urbana to meet friends. It happened to be about halfway on the metro between where we where staying and our friends apartment. It's pretty close to the DuPont Circle stop, so it was convenient. The food was great, service was a bit slow. Bar looked nice although we didn't sit there. It's in the hotel Palomar, one of the Kimpton Hotels. Some of our party had pasta and a few had the roast chicken, everyone felt the food was great. No one was drinking, but it looks like they have a nice bar.
The food was delicious. I had a pasta stuffed with butternut squash and topped with speck and I added shrimp. Just incredible. My husband had a pasta with artichokes that was so flavorful. Wine was mediocre, not special , pricey for what it was. The service was great. Our waitress was so personable and gave us great suggestions. She told me to add the shrimp to my entree. The atmosphere was a little diner like on the restaurant side except with dim lights. It’s a lower level so you see people’s feet when they walk by because the windows are at street level. There was a bar seen on the opposite side. I guess because it is in a hotel . The ambience looked good there with sofas and nice seating.
They also have a pizza bar which looks fun and a small private room in the back. I would go back again because the food was creative, seasonal and delicious.
It took 4 tries to get the right bottle of wine. Then people had wrong cocktails. Think server was new but then dont give him a party of 8
Reasonable and good food for casual dining in DuPont Circle!
Service was exceptional, meal was amazing!
Worst service ever. Would never go again. Food and wine not bad. One full hour to get anything to eat after being seated. Wait staff. Bad. All around
mediocre place. service adequate, huge restaurant but everyone seated in one small section of restaurant. cocktails, too sweet, service slow.
Honestly we all had pizza and it was just alright and overpriced. The crust was too hard. There was more than 75% of the tables empty on a Friday night, so that in retrospect was a bad sign. Considering it was so empty we had to ask our waitress several times for things such as more water. If you're hungry it's a decent place, but there are so many places that you could go to instead. I would never go back.
I love Urbana! My favorite place to brunch and meet with friends! There is nothing in the menu I wouldn't recommend!
The food at Urbana was delicious. It was beautifully presented on the plate; wonderful flavors. Unfortunately the ambiance was less than appealing. And in particular the table top was sticky and needed cleaning. The service was just OK.
Food was not what was expected...meatball appetizer needed much more flavor and mussels where good but didn't have enough broth (sent back to kitchen and they added it). Squid ink pasta was OK but also lacked flavor.
Urbana has developed some very unique and exciting cocktails that pair well with their new menu. The staff is friendly and helpful. The mix of flavors in the dishes is superb. They grow some of the ingredients right here on top of the Kimpton Hotel Palomar!
Great dinner at Urbana, which we found after a short search on OpenTable... tucked away down a small staircase it opens into a vibrant dining room... our server was great, my shrimp & the swordfish was great, and the other three that made up my table left clear plates! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Urbana.
I would recommend the calamari and squid ink pasta....delicious!
