We are visiting San Fransisco and it was our first night here. Before arriving we had checked out the menu and my partner was leaning toward Peking Chicken and I was leaning toward Pork Belly and Waffle; we both ultimately got the Peking Chicken. The dish was presented beautifully with herbs/florals, the chicken was marinated perfectly and had a perfect crisp to the skin. The baby bok choy was done perfectly along with the sticky rice. The whole meal was brought together by a black bean sauce served on the side.
Cocktail could be better
The food was both delicious and beautifully presented.
The food was expensive and not worth the money. The setting is nice. The service was just ok.
We came for a 50th birthday and had a fabulous time! Food was very great and great location!
We would like to see more healthier vegan choices. The only choice that night was a deep fried entree. It was delicious but not so healthy.
We love eating here before a play and typically sit/eat at the bar. We especially love the Bibimpap Korean dish!!! Delicious! Bartender is wonderful!
Chicken very tasty.
Porterhouse steak excellent cooked perfect. Service fantastic.
The ambience of Urban Tavern is perfect for a cozy dinner. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious!
We thought that an "Urban Tavern" would have bar food or maybe hamburgers. What a pleasant surprise when we tasted the creative, unique, and delicious food brought to our table!
And if you have your theater tickets for that date, they give a 20% discount!
Food would have been five stars except for the porchetta which was tough. It was served beautifully (under a glass dome filled with smoke) but just wish it had been tender. The burger, on the other hand, was really, really good. So maybe choose the cheaper burger over the more expensive, fancy entree.
Incredible food and great service!!
The last thing you want when coming to a restaurant (that is also not exactly cheap) is to be schooled loudly and in front of other patrons by a server about how wrong your preferences in food are. All I asked was to serve a particular ingredient on a side, which by the way is how that ingredient should be served. He refused. Refused. Left a bitter taste in my mouth. Won’t come back.
The quality, presentation and service was outstanding.
This restaurant is connected to the SF Hilton but is treated as its separate. The food and atmosphere is ok, but terribly specially. The staff, though, are exceptionally friendly and that’s a plus.
Restaurant was noisy and cold. Food was average. Waiter recommended mussels and there were very few in the dish and some were closed.
An exceptional experience! To top off an excellent dinner, our server Allen took it upon himself to create for us a beautiful cheese board (off the menu) upon finding out that was what we wanted for dessert. Kudos, Allen! Thank you!
Six of us came to San Francisco for dinner and a play and a chance to catch up. We had an early (5:15) reservation and were seated quickly at a round table which seemed perfect for conversation. The menu was eclectic, but we all found choices of small and regular plates to suit our tastes. The server attended to us promptly and was very helpful in explaining unfamiliar items on the menu. At first there were few other patrons, but shortly after our food was served an unruly crowd from a corporate meeting began to appear and occupied several tables near us, speaking in loud voices and shouting to the point that we could not hear each other, nor the server when he appeared to check on us. We asked if the crowd could be moved elsewhere since we were in the middle of our meal, but were told that was not possible as the bar was close to them also. Later the manager came and said that we could move to the other end of the restaurant, but we were nearly finished our meals by then - and felt that the move would do little to lessen the uproar. We finished our meals without being able to converse.
My octopus was cooked perfectly; tender and well seasoned as was the accompanying salad. One companion enjoyed her pasta Bolognase and another the pork belly which she said was well presented and tasty. One woman did not enjoy her steak entree, feeling that the accompanying potato and cauliflower tasted terrible and the steak was a bit tough. The server offered to treat us to dessert, but we did not take him up on that as it was unpleasantly noisy. Would I return? Yes, but only if I could be sure not to encounter such a noisy, inconsiderate group acting as if they were at a soccer match. The server told us that this was an unusual event. The unruly crowd began to depart just as we did so were apparently bar hopping just after their meeting. If you go there go after 6:30pm and perhaps you will both be able to hear your companions and enjoy the innovative cuisine.
Great food, great service did the $40 menu special. Close to Golden Gate Theatre. Nice place to go and then see a show
Super hostess, great chx meal, super!
But too noisy
This had to be the worst salad I've ever been served. I ordered the wild arugula salad with chicken and I think the chicken was actually boiled chicken and literally thrown on the side of the salad. Totally could not eat it! Was charged $22 and couldn't eat most of it.
Good meal after the theater. Everything we had was good.
A restaurant at which you can make a reservation near The Curran Theater.
Good gluten free and vegetarian/vegan offering. Tasty cocktails, Smash fries were delish!
Lugar sencillo agradable y acogedor
La comida muy buena presentación y degustación
Increíble su gallina con arroz y cebollas a la cazuela
El Atún con caviar increíble
Perfect location for seeing the theatre afterward (2 minute walk tithe Curran Theatre and multiple parking options on the same block). Food was delicious and the waiter was attentive and friendly. I will definitely return the next time I’m in the city.
We haven’t been to this restaurant for years but we’re always looking for good pre-theatre dining and decided to give it a try. All the staff we encountered were lovely and service was excellent. I had a delicious bullet bourbon cocktail from the happy hour menu- I would come back just for that. My husband and I fared better in food selection than did our friends. I had the cauliflower soup which was good, but could have been more flavorful. My octopus app which I had as my entree was terrific and my husband’s bi-bim-bop was very good. Can’t recall our friends’ dishes except the stuffed fries, but all was deemed meh. We will try again and further explore the menu.
First the good: our desserts were phenomenal. Creative, fun to eat, and tasty! Pastry chef is on his game. Now the bad: our server was incredibly rude. One in our party has a severe allergy to dairy and asked for plain pasta. Instead of just saying sure, our waitress rolled her eyes and said “well, they’re not going to charge you less, you may as well get the sauce on the side.” She snickered when our 11 year old asked for a children’s menu and stared her down and asked if she was really under 12. The food was mediocre. One dish came out ice cold and undercooked. Two more were overlooked and over salted. There were some very loud, over-indulged patrons. Lots of loud prodanity, a spilled drink and broken glass all near us. If you are looking for a nice post-show dessert with adults only, come here. Otherwise, skip it.
We like to dine here before we see a show at the Curran, the food is tasty and the ambiance is fun. The 20% off with your ticket stub is a huge plus because it can get costly with the appetizers, entrees, sides and dessert.
Great flavors & very a tentative service!!
It was nice. Server was great, food choices were unique and tasty. Great for our family.
Fusion Asian dishes were quite tasty, a bit pricey but we were pleasantly surprised by the taste.
A great Curran Theater recommendation. Service was friendly and attentive. Reservations a must for pre-show meal.
Would love to do a dinner and show there again and try new selections from menu.
Super yummy cocktail to start, a perfectly done burger and $10 validated parking because we were attending a show - perfect evening in SF.
Our waitress KJ was awesome. Such a lovely dinner. We would definitely have dinner here again. It was quiet. The food is great
Great place that is partnered with the Curran Theater for discounted meal, discounted parking, and fast service. The price was pretty high, $29 for spaghetti bolognese main entree.
Our party of three all agreed that Urban Tavern had innovative and excellent food, well presented. Waiter messed up one entree as two had been discussed by one guest, then one chosen—the waiter admitted being uncertain which of the two had finally been selected and “guessed” which was the correct one but should have checked back. The wrong entree was kept and was delicious. Desserts were unusual combinations and plated in a lovely manner plus were delicious.
The menu was fairly limited, and the prices were on the high side for the type of food on offer. We had cauliflower/bean soup, which was bland and mealy. Whole sage leaves were included and they were overpowering. The corn cakes were ok...the smashed potatoes weren’t bad but they came swimming in a tasteless white sauce. We also got the shushiti peppers, which were much hotter than the ones I’ve had at other places, with no sauce or aioli to cool them down. Overall, not impressive.
