This had to be the worst salad I've ever been served. I ordered the wild arugula salad with chicken and I think the chicken was actually boiled chicken and literally thrown on the side of the salad. Totally could not eat it! Was charged $22 and couldn't eat most of it.
Good meal after the theater. Everything we had was good.
A restaurant at which you can make a reservation near The Curran Theater.
Good gluten free and vegetarian/vegan offering. Tasty cocktails, Smash fries were delish!
Lugar sencillo agradable y acogedor
La comida muy buena presentación y degustación
Increíble su gallina con arroz y cebollas a la cazuela
El Atún con caviar increíble
Perfect location for seeing the theatre afterward (2 minute walk tithe Curran Theatre and multiple parking options on the same block). Food was delicious and the waiter was attentive and friendly. I will definitely return the next time I’m in the city.
We haven’t been to this restaurant for years but we’re always looking for good pre-theatre dining and decided to give it a try. All the staff we encountered were lovely and service was excellent. I had a delicious bullet bourbon cocktail from the happy hour menu- I would come back just for that. My husband and I fared better in food selection than did our friends. I had the cauliflower soup which was good, but could have been more flavorful. My octopus app which I had as my entree was terrific and my husband’s bi-bim-bop was very good. Can’t recall our friends’ dishes except the stuffed fries, but all was deemed meh. We will try again and further explore the menu.
First the good: our desserts were phenomenal. Creative, fun to eat, and tasty! Pastry chef is on his game. Now the bad: our server was incredibly rude. One in our party has a severe allergy to dairy and asked for plain pasta. Instead of just saying sure, our waitress rolled her eyes and said “well, they’re not going to charge you less, you may as well get the sauce on the side.” She snickered when our 11 year old asked for a children’s menu and stared her down and asked if she was really under 12. The food was mediocre. One dish came out ice cold and undercooked. Two more were overlooked and over salted. There were some very loud, over-indulged patrons. Lots of loud prodanity, a spilled drink and broken glass all near us. If you are looking for a nice post-show dessert with adults only, come here. Otherwise, skip it.
We like to dine here before we see a show at the Curran, the food is tasty and the ambiance is fun. The 20% off with your ticket stub is a huge plus because it can get costly with the appetizers, entrees, sides and dessert.
Great flavors & very a tentative service!!
It was nice. Server was great, food choices were unique and tasty. Great for our family.
Fusion Asian dishes were quite tasty, a bit pricey but we were pleasantly surprised by the taste.
A great Curran Theater recommendation. Service was friendly and attentive. Reservations a must for pre-show meal.
Would love to do a dinner and show there again and try new selections from menu.
Super yummy cocktail to start, a perfectly done burger and $10 validated parking because we were attending a show - perfect evening in SF.
Our waitress KJ was awesome. Such a lovely dinner. We would definitely have dinner here again. It was quiet. The food is great
Great place that is partnered with the Curran Theater for discounted meal, discounted parking, and fast service. The price was pretty high, $29 for spaghetti bolognese main entree.
Our party of three all agreed that Urban Tavern had innovative and excellent food, well presented. Waiter messed up one entree as two had been discussed by one guest, then one chosen—the waiter admitted being uncertain which of the two had finally been selected and “guessed” which was the correct one but should have checked back. The wrong entree was kept and was delicious. Desserts were unusual combinations and plated in a lovely manner plus were delicious.
The menu was fairly limited, and the prices were on the high side for the type of food on offer. We had cauliflower/bean soup, which was bland and mealy. Whole sage leaves were included and they were overpowering. The corn cakes were ok...the smashed potatoes weren’t bad but they came swimming in a tasteless white sauce. We also got the shushiti peppers, which were much hotter than the ones I’ve had at other places, with no sauce or aioli to cool them down. Overall, not impressive.
Really enjoyed our meal at Urban Tavern. Drinks were perfect. I had Jamiesons and ginger - just the right proportion of both. Wait service was friendly, fun and attentive.. The Maitre d' really took care of us. Food was very good. I am Celiac so I have to have Gluten Free meals. They have a good selection of GF menu choices. We started with Octopus appetizer and for my main I had the ling cod over ratatouille. Very tasty. I finished with dessert and cappuccino. The location is very convenient to the Curran Theater. I highly recommend eating here.
Food & drinks were very good, service was excellent and attentive. Location was very convenient to Union Square, which was necessary since we wanted to avoid driving to dinner. Would recommend the Peking chicken with a wonderful black bean sauce, and milk bread starter (ask them to double the honey butter).
Not a bad choice if you’re looking for a pre-theater meal. Be prepared to spend a little time there as everybody else is trying to get an 8 o’clock show. If you’re seeing something at the current, show your ticket and get 20% off the bill. That brings the prices in to reasonable range. I recommend the bimenbap (sp?) bowl If you want something with some vegetables in it. Lots of good flavors in it.
The menu was interesting. I think it takes a foodie. While what we ordered was delicious, there was nothing else on the menu I would have wanted to try. Service was excellent. It was a bit noisy due to the bar. We will not be back but did enjoy our dinner the one time.
Nothing special. Food looked great but was really lacking in flavour.
We came here for Thanksgiving and ordered the special Thanksgiving menu. We were not told that the dessert we would be getting was nothing like what was on the menu. Instead of the panna cotta that was listed on the menu, we were given gritty sugar cubes and a tiny cheesecake ball. When I asked why we were not given the proper dessert the waitress said it had spoiled. That would have been important to know before ordering the more expensive tasting menu so we could have decided whether or not we wanted to order it. Why she was not upfront about that is confusing and why she did not offer us a dessert from the actual menu is even more bizarre. She made no apology, no offer to make it right. Our waitress seemed off the whole night, so maybe she just did not want to work on a holiday? I always have friends come into town for Thanksgiving and we always dine out. Urban Tavern will not be a place we return to.
Andrea reached out to me and we were able to dine at Urban Tavern on Christmas. Our experience was much better this time around and I truly appreciated Andrea's diligence and concern for her customers experiences.
We came here because our kitchen was out of commission for Thanksgiving. They offered a $56 prefix turkey meal so we decided to give them a shot. In a nutshell: IT WAS NOT WORTH IT!
The salad was lame: cold cooked endive was slimy, dried craisins were an attempt at adding cranberry to something, arugula was tasteless with the smearing of fromage blanc.
Main course came out cold, with undressed Brussels sprouts, mashed parsnips that tasted like uncooked flour, and a stuffing that had the texture and sweetness of a vanilla pound cake. Edible, but not in the least bit ‘delicious’.
Dessert was crap. When I complained, the manager spoke with the chef and reported back to me. They said my complaint of ‘an over set panna cotta’ was correct and they would be discontinuing the dessert of the prefix for the rest of the night. They offered me a different dessert, I declined, and they brought me some selection of sweets anyway. I did not want anything else from this place, which I stated on several occasions. I told them I appreciated that they were open for Thanksgiving, but I was very disappointed by the crap coming out of their kitchen. They didn’t offer to comp a single thing from my check.
Please think twice about giving your business to this talentless kitchen. There are far more worthy restaurants within walking distance.
Garrett was our server, and he was fantastic! The food was excellent as well...very surprised by it all!
Had eaten here prior and had satisfactory experience. I made a reservation recently however the restaurant was closed when I showed up . This was very frustrating as I was meeting a friend I hadn’t seen in a while and then had to find a place that was open and had a availability for a Saturday brunch. Very poor experience.
Celebrated my husband’s birthday on November 4th. . Loved the food and service. It was so busy on a Saturday night but our waitress always made sure we were doing okay. I wished I could remember his name. Make sure to make reservations if you want to go there for dinner.
Love this place. Such a wonderful meal and exceptional cocktails. Definitely a go to place for drinks and dinner before a show. Yum.
My wife and I came in to celebrate the start of our anniversary weekend. My only issue was the pricing, it was extremely high for the food. The pasta dish should be around $17-$18 not $29 ...
$4 for a soda water from a gun is outrageous.
All was good and they were very accommodating of my mother in a large wheelchair.
Outstanding spaghetti Bolognese. Great arugula salad as a starter. I enjoyed both with my glass of Cabernet, of course.
Great restaurant attached to the Hilton Union Square. Great for dinner with guests while in town visiting. It is on the more expensive side but that is to be expected for a hotel restaurant and for a big city like San Fran. Will definitely go again when I'm back in town.
We had an amazing experience here. I highly recommend this place
5 p.m. on a Sunday and it was nice a quite. Menu wasn’t as exciting as I expected and was small but the service was good and the food we did try was amazing. I think this is more of a small bites stop.
Limited menu and overpriced but tasty food. Waiter was helpful. Up charge for bread and wine was expensive
Our food was amazing though I was a bit disappointed to see only three meatballs. I felt like four would have been a better number.
