This was one of our Dine Out Portland choices and it did not disappoint. The service was excellent, the food was wonderful and we could just take our time and enjoy our meal. Everything was explained and any questions answered. It was a little loud, but we could still converse across the table. I would recommend, though, that you sit at a table and not a booth. The booth was so low, we couldn't see into the fondue pots, and the material on the seats made it extremely difficult to slide into. However, we will definitely put this on our go-back-to list.
Very comfortable, relaxing & tasty meal! Enjoyed the Martini’s too!
I did not have a good experience at Urban Fondue, but it's probably mostly my fault. I have avoided the place for awhile, because their food is too funky for me (apparently I am a SUBurban fondue fan). But when I saw the Portland Dining Month menu, I thought I'd give it a try. I have dined at a number of Portland restaurants this month, and enjoyed my meals a lot.
First problem: Urban Fondue is really not set up for people dining alone. The Portland Dining Month price is offered only if there are two of you, each paying that price.
Second problem: processed cheese. I know it's faster, but I think it tastes nasty. And as soon as I saw that the Black Truffle fondue was made with processed cheese, I began plotting my exit. The bread was lovely and soft (although fondue usually calls for crusty bread for a reason--it doesn't fall apart/fall in the pot when you dip it, as this bread did).
I went in looking forward to cheese fondue, an entree, and dessert fondue for $33. I left having had cheese fondue that was unsatisfying and a lovely dessert fondue...for just about $33.
If I went back, I'd skip the cheese entirely and have a salad and an entree and take the dessert home.
Or I'd go to The Melting Pot.
Was there for a birthday dinner. Food was amazing. Service was on the slow side and lots of little things in the restaurant needed work.
Not too comfortable. Tables small seats hard. The cheese fondue was good. With just a few minor upgrades, urban Fondue could rate much higher.
We had a great time. Great food, great service. The staff even handled themselves well when a mom and daughter were making things very difficult as soon as they opened.
It was my first time at Urban Fondue and it was for my birthday. Our server sucked, she forgot to bring the extra add ons, our drinks took 20 mins to get, our sever didn't check in on us. The booth we got had burn marks and there was a large table directly in front of us! Getting in and out was awkward and it was a pretty disappointing first time.
Service was friendly, dinner took long in total about 2 hours? We did Portland Dining Month 33$ each for 3 courses. I loved the cheese fondue and we added asparagus. The entree was lobster and steak plus veggies, which was OK for me. We got two skewers each took forever to cook pieces of food at 3 mins a piece!! Lol. We dipped in 2 broth (they give you a timer and cheat sheet), which didn’t give food a ton of flavor. They also give you like 8 small dipping sauces, which quite frankly overwhelmed me. I didn’t know what to dip in what! The desert was also just OK for me. We got salted caramel sauce and a plate full of sweets (cookies, cheesecake) with like 6 pieces of fruit (two strawberries and 4 pieces of pineapple) to dip. That was too sweet for me, I think more fresh fruit would have been better. It was good to try it, but for a total bill (including 2 cocktails) plus tip close to $100 I’d go for sushi or something else.
Great fun and amazing service! Food was awesome!!
It was good food, quick service, and awesome wait staff! She knew the menu, was helpful in picking out what would work best for us, and friendly!
Urban Fondue was absolutely wonderful! We went for the Portland Dining Month Menu. Their cocktails were fabulous, both my partner and I loved them. The ruby port fondue was so flavorful, i found myself scraping every last bit out of the bowl. We each had steak and lobster for the main course which came with some veggies and a few tortellini. The portions of meat were a little light but we still left feeling full. We tried the March special (a fondue take on s’mores) and got a bit of a sugar rush dipping the many fruits, cakes and doughs in the delicious chocolate fondue. Overall it was fantastic!
We went during Portland Dining month, so the price was reasonable. Overall, the food was average - and the service was slow. They forgot one of our orders and the overall flavors were unimpressive. Not as good as The Melting Pot, honestly - and I really was hoping to find a good locally owned fondue place v. a chain restaurant.
We are long time friends who haven't seen each other for 9 years, celebrating our birthdays during Portland Dining Month. We so enjoyed our complete meal, delicious! Also, service was great, very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed our evening. Thank you very much!
The carpet needs replaced dingy and the lights above the booth's need dusted. Table was dirty. Staff had a hard time moving us back one table to not be right by door soared the experience a bit. Server was great felt rushed a bit on the meal.
Service was ok. Nice server just didn’t see him much. Entrees way over priced. Not great. Salad wasn’t very good either. If I go back I would stick with cheese fondue and dessert fondue. Maybe a cocktail.
We went for PDX dining month. The way the their website was worded made it seem like the dinner was $33 per couple, not per person. It was $33 per person. I sent them a message via Facebook and they changed the wording on their menu to prevent others from being confused... The food was good, but I wouldn't recommend it for the price. I would venture elsewhere on the dining month list and get more bang for my buck.
Really enjoyed our evening. Staff was out of this world friendly and attentive to our every whim. Portions were plentiful and explanation of menu was suburb. Several drink options available and cozy booths make it feel like you are sequestered from the rest of the restaurant. I highly recommend reservations and be sure to order a cocktail made to order from Bartini next door. If you are driving and need parking, come at least a half hour early! Parking in NW is a joke.
Urban Fondue - hipper than us, but cool about it.
We had a reservation, but weren’t able to be seated for about 15 minutes. We waited in the bar, which was a bit crowded and noisy.
The ladies who bartended were amazing to watch: they were in the midst of a massive order when we arrived, yet they made the job look easy. We were impressed. Our drinks were tasty as well.
Once we got to our table, our waiter was friendly and made some great recommendations. We had the three course Portland Dining Month menu, which was delicious and extremely filling. We definitely needed a walk afterward to burn some of those calories.
As this was our first fondue experience, we were quite pleased with this introduction to it. We would definitely consider coming back on a less busy night.
Wonderful atmosphere. The experience of cooking the meat in the broth at the table and trying all the different sauces is wonderful. The veggies are crisp and fresh.
The overall experience was wonderful.
I rarely write a bad review, however...Our waitress must've been having a bad night. The booth seating was horrible. All the raw fish was put on the same plate as vegetables, etc. Not safe. It just wasn't the best dining experience.
Our first trip to Urban Fondue and it couldn't have been any better! We had a 5:00 reservation on a Thursday night and found traffic to be a bit more than we expected, but I called just to warn we'd be a couple minutes behind and the host was very friendly about it. When we showed up (around 5:08) there was just one other couple there. We were seated immediately in a very comfy booth with pillows. It was nice and private and great for celebrating quietly.
As it was our first trip, our server Hannah was VERY knowledgable. She answered any question we asked with ease and confidence. We ordered drinks first, my boyfriend got a lemon bourbon drink (DELICIOUS) and I had a blackberry Belinitini. It wasn't amazing so my second beverage later was a white elderflower drink and I loved it. We ordered our food off the special March food week menu they had. $33/person for a 3 course meal is a great deal.
For our first course we chose the white cheddar fondue and a side of garlic sausage. It was easily the best fondue we've ever had! Next they brought our main course. He got the shrimp & seafood while I got the lobster & steak. Both plates came with seasonal veggies (zucchini, squash, carrots, asparagus) and 6 or 7 tortellini. Cooking them right in front of us ourselves was really neat! Since the booth sunk sort of low to the table, and the pot of rolling broth was somewhat tall it was a bit difficult to see into the broth on how our food was cooking.
We were in a bit of a hurry, we needed to be at Moda Center for a show that started at 7. They were awesome to get us out in time and brought our dessert fondue right away. We ordered the nutella fondue. It came with a side of strawberries, banana, chocolate chip cookie dough, snickerdoodle cookie dough, cheesecake, but our favorite was the cream puffs! The hot chocolate with the cool custard inside was a great mixture.
I can't wait until we have another event or something to celebrate so we can come back!
A wonderful experience at Urban Fondue. Every course we were brought was terrific and luxurious. Not your everyday dining and bring an appetite. Sharing food and cooking an entree was a lot of fun. The ruby port rivaled some of the fondues I have had in Switzerland. The service was excellent and they are gluten-friendly. Please don’t use your phone timer to time your cooking slots, it may not be nice for the table next to you. Save room for decadent desserts!
Fantastic food and great service as always
The Swiss truffle oil cheese was AMAZING with the bread. The entrees were ok, not bad, but not really noteworthy. The bananas foster desert was REALLY good! My husband and I agree if we go back, we'll just get the 1st and last course and skip the entree!
Poor service. Had to get server several times to tend to our needs. Forgot our drinks. Needed utensils that took a very long time to get.
This was my second time at Urban Fondue. The food is delicious, but the service is terrible. I had to flag down servers multiple times to get water refills. The server rarely came by and the food took a very long time to come out. For raw food you cook yourself this shouldn’t be an issue. Dinner took over 3 hours. I’m all for a relaxing dining experience, but it was mostly spent waiting on courses to arrive.
The restaurant itself needs work. The booths and tables are poorly designed. The seats are too low and tables too high. I’m a very tall person and I felt like a child barely able to reach the table. The hostess apologized /warned us before we even sat down about the sinking seats. It was difficult getting in and out. The interior design overall feels dated and very DIY.
It’s a fun, tasty experience, but is lacking in quality service and environment.
We have 4 fondue experience. We all liked the 2 cheese fondues. We got 3 different broths and each one taste pretty much the same. Once you dip the meat and seafood into the broth, they all come out to be the same with not much flavor. I think that is the reason why they give so many dipping sauces. We also got 2 chocolate dips and again, the chocolate tasted the same. We did not like the cookie dough. It was too sweet and does not go well with the chocolate. Maybe we just don't like cookie dough. I wish it was baked. We have a fun experience, if we do come back it will be for the truffle cheese fondue only.
We went to Urban Fondue for my partner’s birthday and it was great!!!!
Didn't have very good service and not even a happy birthday for our occasion, written on the reservation.
Food was ok but I recommend separating raw meats from vegetables.
Small, small servings. Poor service. Melting Pot is a better experience, food, and value.
Amazing experience everytime! Try the Experience option. You get 3 courses which is plenty of food for 2. Highly recommend Urban Fondue. Love that Bartini is next door. Awesome drinks!
Went on a fun date with my wife. We had great food and the servers were very attentive to us.
Great fondue and cocktails. Booths are a little uncomfortable, but doesn't detract from experience too much. Little pricey for what you actually get. Great place for double date.
A very interactive and exciting way to switch up our date night routine. It did, however, serve as a gentle reminder why we should leave the cooking to real professionals.
Cheese fondue was good and the chocolate fondue was good but for the main entree you’re basically just boiling your meat in broth.
Just want to say this is my favorite restaurant. However this last time the service was not so great. Our waiter have me pork when i ordered lobster. He completely forgot our side of potatoes then when I reminded him he said sorry ill get that right up. When we were finished with our meal he said oh I'm so sorry ill get that for you. We said nevermind. Then when we ordered our dessert fondue I asked for a shot of Bailey's and did not get it. When he have me the bill at the end I asked him about it. He said sorry ill see if I can take a couple bucks off...ive never had poor service here until then.
My fiance and I had a fantastic experience at Urban Fondue. Our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful, the ambiance was lovely, and the food and drinks were fantastic! We definitely recommend this place for a date or even just a fun experience.
I really wish the tables weren’t as cramped... very good food and service though!!
Service is slow and for what you get it’s expensive
An unforgettable experience. I recommend ordering the Fondue Experience. Allow plenty of time!
