Urban Fondue Ratings and Reviews
Urban Fondue is hands down our favorite place to go on a date. Definitely make sure that you make a reservation if you come since they often are booked and can’t accept walk ins. Fantastic food, friendly staff, reasonable prices. It’s worth the drive and struggle to find parking.
Wife and went for our anniversary. The staff were helpful in picking out broth that would work with our main dish choices. We got the happy hour special which included the cheese fondue, main course, and desert chocolate fondu for two. It was a great value. Was a little to dark to read the menu, but we just used our phones as a flashlight.
Rene helped me put together a special evening for my fiancé’s birthday. I brought a few special items ahead of time and he was fully prepared to present them according to our plan. The pacing of the dinner was perfect so that we were always engaged but never rushed. He was a wonderful part of the meal and my date and I had lots of time to share the food and talk.
This is one of my daughter's favorite places to eat, especially with her girlfriends, so when she invited me to join her I was excited to try it out. We arrived during the Happy Hour and had the Fondue Experience. The booth seating is ridiculously low and should be boosted up, it's awkward and uncomfortable. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. The cheese and bread fondue was good, we got the smoked cheddar. However, the Fin and Shellfish plate I ordered was SUPER fishy smelling and the oysters were inedible. They were apologetic and brought more tortellini and veggies and removed the seafood. By the time dessert arrived, I had an upset stomach. It was fine, and maybe a 20-somethings idea of a great place to eat but I just wasn’t a fan.
The fondue was great - the problem was our scatterbrained server. By the end of the evening, she'd discounted both our bottles of wine because they didn't have what we wanted in stock. She kept forgetting things, and it seemed like they may have been understaffed.
We had a reservation and arrived about 5 minutes early since it was New Year's Eve. The hostess told us the wait would be just a couple of minutes. They ended up making us wait 30 minutes after our reservation time to be seated. The tables are so close together that we could barely walk through without tripping over other peoples chairs. The waiter was nice, friendly and helpful at least. The food was OK but definitely not worth the $200+ that we paid for 2 entrees and dessert plus drinks. The melting pot fondue restaurant at least is worth the price tag because they give you decent portions and the food tastes way better than Urban Fondue.
The food was excellent. The negative, however, was we arrived early for our reservation, but had to wait 45 minutes to be seated because the previous party at "our" table would not leave. The hostess was kind and apologetic, but no concession was offered - Not even a free drink while we waited.
We went for a family dinner for Christmas Eve and the waiter explained everything to us so well and encouraged us to order the fondue experience and what is included. Everything arrived timely and efficiently. The atmosphere was very comfortable and relaxing. And the best surprise of all was the amount of food for the cost; we were so happy we went and after looking at the total even happier. We will definitely go back again
Excellent food, excellent atmosphere. As with similar places, the cheese fondue is always my favorite part; the selections we sampled put other restaurants of similar caliber to shame. Great cocktails and great service rounded out a delightful and delectable experience.
The dining experience at Urban Fondue that I enjoyed last night was, bar none, the very best I ever had. We had an excellent waiter but every member of the staff made us feel welcome and looked after. From frequent refills on the delicious cucumber water to timely refills of the fresh and tasty bread cubes, each and every moment and every single mouthful was just exceptional. We will be back.
Urban Fondue really blew it out of the water for me. Went because of a recommendation by my co workers for my husband and I's wedding anniversary. Making a reservation with open table gave me peace of mind that we would have a table waiting for us when we arrived. They opened the doors a few minutes early so we did not have to wait outside in the cold. Happy hour is Monday-Saturday till 6PM, so our package was discounted. They gave us complimentary champagne for our special occasion and our server was very informed and helpful. My only two complaints would be the parking situation, it was incredibly hard to find parking this side of town, and that the happy hour does on include the drink happy hour options. Otherwise this is such a great place for dates and special occasions :)
This was fondue week for us. Urban Fondue was our second fondue restaurant this week, the first restaurant was Melting Pot. My husband loved Urban Fondue but our daughter says Melting Pot was better. My husband liked Urban Fondue’s setting, we got a booth with a big red velour booth, which he felt was very cozy. Our daughter preferred the cheese choices better from Melting Pot. But Urban Fondue has some fun cheese choices that aren’t kid friendly but we’re definitely adult friendly:) My final vote (I’m the mom) is.....I felt the atmosphere at Melting Pot was more relaxing-the tables were bigger for spreading out the fondue dipping ingredients.....Urban Fondue has its own special touches for a couple’s date night.
Really good experience with nice wait staff and lots of options to design the type of fondue you prefer. Would like more fruit and less pastries with the chocolate fondue (which was totally yummy!) Tasty and interesting cocktails made at the place next door. Restaurant was quiet which is a lovely change of pace from the loud places in Portland where you literally have to yell at your table mates because no one can hear you! Looking forward to returning!
This restaurant is connected to and shares a kitchen with Bartini. However you will pay twice as much for everything simply because you have someone under 21 in your group. I would highly recommend that you go to Bartini for a better Value especially during Happy Hour which Urban Fondue doesn't do for drinks or appetizers only their rather spendy full meal plans.
I took my husband here as a surprise for his birthday, and we had an AMAZING time! The service was impeccable, the food was delicious, and the simple act of creating each bite made for a fun activity and means for conversation throughout the meal. We will absolutely be back.
Table for 5 with Thanksgiving reservation. They allot 2.5hrs for full dinner service, which in any other place is generous. The service was terrible. This is the second time we've gone and both times service was neglectful and there was no sense that it mattered. The first time we went it took 2 hrs to get one drink. And we reminded them a lot. This last time the drinks (nothing mixed. I'm talking soda) took over 30 minutes. Our server said she'd be right back to take our order and forgot. Twice. That was an hour lost right there. We were actually fine with all of this. And I understand -- sort of. I was a waitress once. Nary a complaint. It's when they apparently had to turn our table for the next reservation and told us 15 minutes beforehand. This is just after they took our desert choices. They served us our dessert one minutes before our time was up and stood there, dish towels in hand to clean the table. I'm not even slightly exaggerating. They chargeded us for coffee they didn't pour. The food is fine. Nothing to brag about. It's not worth the bother or money. Go to The Melting Pot instead. It's a better overall experience.
We chose Urban Fondue for our non-traditional Thanksgiving feast - and it was a home run! The service was spectacular, the food tasty and even healthy(ish considering the dessert), and the adult beverages were tasty too! A neighborhood gem that we'll enjoy again soon!
Three cheers for Urban Fondue!
We went to Urban Fondue for a birthday celebration. There was just two of us at our party and we did the Fondue Experience which was $37 per person that included a three-course fondue meal (cheese, broth, dessert) to be shared. I would recommend this place and I plan to return again.
- We were sat immediately at our reservation time
- Our server took a lot of time going over the menu and specials with us and gave us lots of time to discuss between us what we wanted to share.
- All the fondues were delicious and all the ingredients tasted fresh (we had the white truffle swiss fondue which was so good we cleaned the bowl)
- We never felt rushed, even after closing, by the staff
- The staff was very friendly and outgoing
- We ate so much fondue that we could only eat half of our dessert fondue
Not so good things:
- We ordered cocktails with the appetizer but were never asked if we would like more cocktails or something else to drink besides water.
- My friend is a vegetarian and it was a little disappointing that there as only one cooking broth that was completely vegetarian
- The water has cucumbers added to it, which is refreshing when you first sit down however it didn't go well with the tomato fennel broth or the dark chocolate fondue. Next time I will request regular water when first sitting down.
