Urban Fondue Ratings and Reviews
We went to Urban Fondue for a birthday celebration. There was just two of us at our party and we did the Fondue Experience which was $37 per person that included a three-course fondue meal (cheese, broth, dessert) to be shared. I would recommend this place and I plan to return again.
- We were sat immediately at our reservation time
- Our server took a lot of time going over the menu and specials with us and gave us lots of time to discuss between us what we wanted to share.
- All the fondues were delicious and all the ingredients tasted fresh (we had the white truffle swiss fondue which was so good we cleaned the bowl)
- We never felt rushed, even after closing, by the staff
- The staff was very friendly and outgoing
- We ate so much fondue that we could only eat half of our dessert fondue
Not so good things:
- We ordered cocktails with the appetizer but were never asked if we would like more cocktails or something else to drink besides water.
- My friend is a vegetarian and it was a little disappointing that there as only one cooking broth that was completely vegetarian
- The water has cucumbers added to it, which is refreshing when you first sit down however it didn't go well with the tomato fennel broth or the dark chocolate fondue. Next time I will request regular water when first sitting down.
We had the best server which helped us have the very best experience. It was the first time coming here and it did not disappoint. Server was always present when we needed him and never pushy. Made many great recommendations. We loved the lavender Cosmo. The black truffle fondue was SO tasty! Banana foster fondue for dessert was the prefect ending.
Was disappointed it took 20 minutes to get our drinks and server wouldn't take our order- kept saying "I need to get the drinks" I'm pregnant and I was hungry. Waiter was friendly but wasn't available much during the meal.
Didn't want to pay a 20% gratuity but felt forced to.
Probably won't go back to this establishment.
We started out with drinks at Bartini before our reservation and we were kindly ushered to our table when our table was ready. Vince was our server and he was amazing! Incredibly helpful and the perfect blend around when you need him to be and personal space. Everything about our special night went well and we will definitely be coming back in the future.
The food was “ ho-hum “. Unfortunately my expectations were greater. The martinni menue from the adjoining bar was very good. The fondue portion was small and the cheese used may not have been of a higher quality The fondue experience is always enjoyable but unfortunately we were disappointed by the lack of flavor. Overall not a home run.
My husband and I went to urban fondue for our anniversary and, as always, it was amazing! Great food, great atmosphere, cozy booths. Our waiter was very attentive and informative. Give yourself at least a couple hours if you want to do the full fondue experience, which I recommend. We will definitely be back.
It's worth the money for a unique experience. My only advice is don't waste the time and money on the meat portion. It's fun and all but my husband and I were much more satisfied with the cheese/bread/dessert portion of the meal. Just get 2 pots of cheese with your bread, load up on the carbs because you know you want to. Don't fool yourself into thinking you're being healthy by getting a vegetable, you're dipping food in cheese embrace it. The service was phenomenal so go there budgeting in a good tip for good service.
We were visiting Portland and were intrigued by the menu. The restaurant is fun, both visually and in exploring the menu, and the food was also fun -- but we were a bit disappointed in the fish option, which sounded better than it actually proved to be, and in the dessert -- the chocolate was great but, unless you have a high tolerance for rich food, the dipping options were a bit challenging. Would have been happier to have an option to just get fruit to dip. Still, it's a really fun and unusual restaurant.
Second time here and both times were a great experience. We were seated promptly and the wait staff is always friendly and answers any questions. Food is always good and fondue is such an experience in itself. Also doesn't hurt having the martini bar attached. The Diablo is one of my favorites.
Food was great but they needed more servers to keep up with the periodic "check-ins" of the customers. Usually the server is constantly checking for drink refills but we had to wait quite a while for the chance to ask for another drink from the bar. The water refills we ok, but also lacked a bit in the frequency. At the end, we ordered or dessert fondue and I asked for a cup of decaf coffee. Our server said she would need to start a new pot, I said to not worry about it, but she insisted it was fine and said something to the effect of "that's my job". Unfortunately, my cup of decaf never came after grazing over our chocolate fondue for quite a while. The food was delicious though and the portions were perfect. (Although it is SO easy to want more bread with the cheese fondue! Yummm) Despite this experience, the high price tag and the pain to park, it's still a nice place to go to for special occasions.
Second time to Urban Fondue, I think the first time was much better both in food, noise level, and seating and that could be because first time was just the two of us in a circle booth and this time was 6 of us at a table in the middle of things. Much noisier.
Our server was good at his job and helpful in selection of food. Some of the fondue didn't seem to be hot enough on a sustained basis (main course and dessert). They serve all these little dishes of flavored sauces and so many without a chance to memorize what they were. It would be nice if they provided a list (maybe with a picture of the sauce so you know what it looks like) so at least we might be able to match the list with what we think they are and to know the ingredients in the sauces.
My husband and I typically go to urban Fondue for our special occasions and it's always great, But I have to say that this time our server went above and beyond for because it was our anniversary. We have always had great service there but he seemed to truly enjoy being there 10/10 for that guy!
Having never been here before but having been recommended it by a few people I decided to take my girlfriend here for her birthday. I have been to the Melting Pot many times prior to visiting here. I find the melting pot to be a much more interactive and enjoyable option for fondue. Everything is brought out from the kitchen pre-made and placed on top of a Sterno warmer, where everything is done in front of you at the melting pot. You get more dipping options at the melting pot where if you want additional dipping items here you need to pay extra for them and the quantities are large enough you'll only really want to get one. The meat was sliced in fairly thin strips instead of cubes, making it more difficult to cook to my liking. The booths were very uncomfortable and for as long as a fondue experience takes, this was very unfortunate. Our booth also had burn holes in it. I don't feel like I will be a return customer.
The place is small & has a good atmosphere for a date night or a small intimate group of friends.
The cocktails (which come from bartini next door) are yummy & well done.
I would go back for the cheese fondue but I would skip the entrees/hot pot on the menu. The portion was small & nothing special.
The dipping sauces they include with the entrees are average.
Service/waitresses are really slow to get your drink & food order. A 25 minute wait to have our order taken in a restaurant this small that has multiple servers & a busboy & a hostess was ridiculous. But I expected to have slow service from reading the reviews on yelp.
I would recommend urban fondue for drinks & a cheese fondue appetizer before heading off somewhere else near by on 21st or 23rd.
I was so pleased with Urban fondue. My husband and I have not had such a lovely dining experience in years. Everything was on point. The atmosphere was perfect, soft lights, low dinner music, not too loud. The staff is great. It was our first time in and our server was so patient with us and explained everything beautifully. We did the full experience and it was soooo worth every penny. 3 course dinner for 2 for less than $100 and I got a cocktail. We are definitely going back! My new favorite in NW.
