Fantastic as usual!
We have been dining at Uptown Cafe for more years than I can remember. This last visit was disappointing. My wife's salmon was bland, with no real flavor, and my shrimp dish with curried couscous was tasty, but I had to remove the tails from eight or nine shrimp, which is aggravating. Little stuff, but that's what separates the OK ones from the great ones.
The Uptown was one of the first restaurants to open on Bardstown Rd (70s? Replaced a bar?). It has thrived because of the comfortable, easy atmosphere, food that is consistently and dependably good, and some of the best service in town. Tired after a long day? Relaxing with friends? A quiet spot to meet with a new business contact? I use Uptown like my own dining room.
Very good, service excellent
Always a favorite of ours! We can actually hear each other talk…
I noted in my reservation that it was our 10 year anniversary. We had to tell the server, and it still wasn't a big deal. I wouldn't have booked, if I had known there wouldn't be this attention to detail.
Food was okay...however, it wasn't that impressive.
Everything was great from our food to our service!!
Food was delicious, as usual. Everything on the menu is tasty, including the wonderful mixed drinks. Great, fast, friendly service. A favorite place for dining.
We had lemon drop martinis (excellent), smoked Gouda queso, salads and the smoked salmon pasta. All the food was wonderful. Waiter was a little slow to bring the check but otherwise a nice evening!
We met old friends at the Uptown. Food was great! Service excellent!! Ambiance was perfect for talking and catching up with a drink and great food. Wonderful evening.
it is a good place to meet friends on a moments notice. always pleasamt.
One of our favorite Louisville establishments!
Great food, nice location. With a group of 4. We all enjoyed our meals. Great shrimp bisque, pastas, loved the liver salad. Wish we had room for dessert as there were some great choices.
I had a great experience at the Uptown Cafe and it was a beautiful and had such a great ambiance. I would definitely recommend to anyone and everyone !!! I can’t wait to go back !
This is a go to restaurant for me in Louisville. Partly because of variety and quality of menu as well as value, consistency and service.
Accepts Reservations-Post Kentucky Derby dinner-full menu available on Derby night! Great service!!
Food was very good and great portions for the price. Fried green tomatoes were excellent! As was the Bloody Mary !!
Food was subpar. Fish Special was bland. Pasta salmon dish didn’t taste like real salmon. Fish tacos not good. Server was excellent. Older crowd. Drinks were good
Awesome and delicious!
The Uptown has occupied its corner on Bardstown Road for 30 years (my guess). It has whittled away the problems and glitches, routinely tuned the menu to keep it interesting and evolved into a spot where you will invariably be satisfied. It has become "our kitchen away from home" for those nights when the day has been long, we're tired and we're too busy to restock our own larder. A wonderful place to relax and enjoy.
It was great! The food was very good. The service excellent. And, it was pleasantly quiet.
Best pork chop ever
Three in our party. We ordered red fish, salmon and beef tenderloin entrees along with fried green tomatoes and the tomatillo queso. Everything was excellent. Had a chocolate ganache torte that we shared for dessert.
This is one of the best restaurants in town. Always consistent, excellent service!
always good and always on point
we like going there because you can count on the food
we usually get the pecan crusted liver salad it’s so good
but this night we got every small plate they had on special menu all great
We can always depend on Uptown Cafe for a delicious dinner and great environment. Plenty of entrees to choose from and a nice wine list. It is always an inviting place to dine and reliable for a wonderful dinner!
Nothing special about Uptown Cafe. Would not recommend.
Nice afternoon spent celebrating a friend’s recent wedding
We enjoyed our visit to Uptown. It’s one of our favorite.
First time here. Small, intimate setting. Good food. Good service
Was appropriately seated, excellent service, better than average food.
Both of our entree’s were wonderful!!😃
The basa fish in the tacos was moist, and grilled to perfection. The fish portion in each taco was extremely generous. I wish there had been more condiments for the tacos. The diced onions and peppers needed additional flavors. The slaw served with the tacos was flexors, not too creamy but had a satisfying crunch
Fantastic as always, plus the patio is OPEN!!
Food was bland. Caesar salad was tasteless understated menu. No one was inside barely. Weird assortment of food
We always enjoy Uptown because it is pleasant and consistent.
The servers are attentive and polite.
We had a nice time with 6 of our friends. We were seated right on time. The service was professional and prompt. The menu has lots of options, everyone at our table ordered something different. Everyone was very satisfied with their food. I would return and also recommend this place to others.
We always enjoy dinner at the Uptown Cafe. We have a few favorites and like to try new specials on occasion. The wait staff is professional without being intrusive. The bartenders are super friendly and we enjoy talking to them whenever the dining room is full and we opt to sit at the bar. A neighborhood gem!
In my opinion, the recent Courier-Journal review was very unfair. I am a foodie who eats in many restaurants but The Uptown is our “go to” place. We probably eat there once a week. The food is consistently good and is an excellent value for the quality of the food at a reasonable price.
The food is absolutely delicious each and every time I dine there. The menu has a great variety for food and drink. Everyone in my party orders something different and each person raves about their meal. The presentation is very attractive and the service is top notch - just enough attention is paid to each patron. It’s great to have a local restaurant that I can count on to deliver quality dining at any time. The prices are great as well. I’m glad to have a place like Uptown Cafe for entertaining out of town guests, especially with the Derby coming up very soon. Thanks for the great service.
OMG is how I would describe the food, drink and service. There were 4 of us and we started with cocktails at the bar and a smoked gouda and tomatilo queso. Never had "cheese dip" taste the same and I will crave it forever. Delicious and the perfect amount for the 4 of us to dip a few chips and leave room for all the other must have's. Nice wine list and the BEST espresso martini's I have ever had (and yes, I have tried them from many places). Once we were seated, we were nicely greeted and got a couple appetizers. Black bean cakes, and onion rings. Yes, onion rings. Crazy good. Cooked perfectly and not so big that eating them was awkward. The black bean cakes were perfectly cooked, not at all dry, wonderful flavor. Then, dinner...to keep this from going to long, I will list what we had and just know there was not a bite left of ANYthing! Basa fish tacos, grilled beef tenderloin medallions, scallops (cooked perfectly) and the Uptown burger. Of course we finished with a couple desserts and were instantly in a food coma! DELICIOUS!
