Uptown Cafe Ratings and Reviews
The Uptown is consistently the best place in the Highlands and beyond. We have been going there every Friday night for 20+ years with friends. The wait staff knows us, and many of the long time customers. They remember what we like.."not to spicy, burger well done, hold the onion".
The food is inventive just enough to keep you interested.
Go if you never have , you'll return just like we do.
I do not live in Louisville though I am somewhat familiar with it. Uptown Cafe has a long tradition of fine food and great atmosphere. My family met with another relative and two friends for lunch and it was terrific. The food and wine were wonderful. The service was quite good. The only hiccup was that my meal somehow got missed in the original order. They rushed it through and it was fine. I would like to go there again and try some of their other offerings. The atmosphere is well lit and fresh. The noise is not too great to have a conversation. I liked it a lot.
Always good. We eat here frequently, and I didn’t order my favorite this time—the chicken piccata—I had the potato soup and Brussel sprouts (trying to keep the holiday weight gain down) and they were great and probably not the most low cal dishes on the menu—but it was worth every bite! Our party had beef medallions, pork, and the schnitzel and all was great!
Our food took too long to arrive and my husband's flank steak was not cooked to order. We had an emergency at the conclusion of our meal which required us to receive our check in haste. I informed the hostess and she bagged up our leftovers, but our server did not present our bill promptly causing us to delay our departure.
The Uptown Cafe has been one of my favorites since it opened thirty some odd years ago. It is truly a neighborhood gem as well as being the owner’s “labor of love” and tribute to her family. It has a long history for excellent cuisine and scrumptious desserts, as well as a “creative “small plates menu that changes daily. The stuffed mushrooms in cream sauce is one of my favorites.
We had seen this place for years but never eaten there. We had a Louisville Originals gift card so chose Uptown Cafe. (Note to restaurant: if you say there are no restrictions for a gift card over the phone, don't change it to - oh yes, there ARE gift card restrictions once we've ordered). The restaurant has a lovely bar (dead empty) and a less lovely dining room. Very utilitarian with tables that had uneven legs and rocked. The atmosphere was odd - - dining room like a Denny's or TGI Fridays atmosphere, while the bar was totally upscale. Our server was delightful - she seemed to have all the tables in our room yet constantly checked on us and made eye contact every time she went by. She was a winner!!! She really made our meal special. We had shrimp fritters and dolmades as an appetizer. The shrimp cakes were excellent, served on a bed of smoky tomato sauce. The dolmades (braised grape leaves) had an overwhelming taste of cinnamon which means one of us loved them and the other hated them. As for entrees, the special (grouper cheek po boy) was excellent. Fish tasted fresh, was crispy and not greasy. Bread was warm and fries were double fried. The salmon croquette entree tasted great - came with a savory medley of carrots, zucchini, mushrooms and squash. The only problem was they served me a half order without asking and until we got the check I had no idea why the portion size was so small. We will probably try this place again - without the stellar service though, it's good but not great.
Uptown is one of our favorite dinner sites for joining friends once or twice a month. Their menu always offers creative selections with some local choices of ingredients.
We enjoy Monday 1/2 off promotion on bottles of wine which gives a chance for trying new selections and better values.
Our menu favorites always include the grilled salmon, chicken pasta and one of their special desserts! Give Uptown a try and enjoy!!
