Upstream - Charlotte
Food was very good. Disappointed that the main dinning room was closed. Would appreciate knowing this before making the reservation. Sat at the bar.
Ridiculous Baby oysters... 2,5 $ each... didn’t enjoy sorry.
Excellent service, our waitress was friendly and had good recommendations for us. We went for our anniversary and had planned to just order several apps/sushi. Calamari was very good but small portion for price. Crab cakes were yummy, 2 nice size cakes good amount for price. Mussels were delicious, portion was good there. Sushi roll was good but just average. I wish there was more variety in the entrees, we didn’t see anything we wanted enough to spend 30-40 dollars on. Having been to upstream a few times over the past 15 years—menu used to be better. Quality remains but needs more variety.
From the moment you walk in the door you feel at home. The staff is amazing. We were seated quickly in their beautiful dining room. The wait staff were incredibly attentive. During the meal the owner came by to ask how we were enjoying our meal. The food was fantastic. The head chef makes a meal a fantastic experience. I had no room for dessert but when I saw the choices I had to squeeze it in.
Took my mother out for Mother’s Day and she had a great time and really enjoyed her food.
The food at Upstream was good...nothing to “write home about”, but it wasn’t bad. I simply expected more from a restaurant at this price point. The menu was limited. I was hoping to find a broad seafood selection. Not the case. There wasn’t even a seafood soup on the menu (there was a miso soup offering). The service left something to be desired. Our waiter was slightly rude. His attempts to be clever came across as abrasive. So, at almost $40 per person, it was not worth it.
Awesome experience! The Mother's Day Brunch was wonderful, the staff was amazing and i hope to come back again.
The mother's day buffet was perfect. There were just the normal items, but oysters, crab, shrimp, beef tenderloin, and more. Deserts also were outstanding. Highly recommend this buffet and restaurant for your celebrations.
We were so impressed. The food was superb with great choices. Our server was terrific. All in all, it was a home run.
My mom and I came on mother's day and it was delightful. An upscale 5 star buffet all you can eat. Everything down to the drinking water was classy. I enjoyed our waitress, she was funny, helpful and very engaged in our table. It was both of our first time at Upstream and we will definitely be back! Very big restaurant with valet parking and a sophisticated look. We both enjoyed ourselves and Upstream made this Mother's day very memorable!
Applause for Yeti our incredible server who made our experience even better than the food!
My review is with regards to their recent Mother’s Day brunch.
Unfortunately Upstream has changed their brunch format and reverted to days gone by buffet style. In itself, that is fine, however I found the offerings to be lackluster to poor with only a couple standouts (and those were side dishes) . Desserts were pretty pathetic. Not a cheap brunch ($45 pretax and tip no drinks of any kind but water included). Service was good and I like the venue - just wouldn’t do brunch there again.
Our table wasn't ready at the time of our reservation. We waited 20 minutes w/o offer of complimentary drinks, etc. Observed other people wait longer, even after we were seated. Also observed two open/un-bused tables our entire wait time. Finally, one of the two greeters bused and reset the table - which should have happened sooner, so didn't seem to be the original intent or process. Our waiter seemed discombobulated the entire time, and two other waiters attended to us throughout the evening, seemingly making up for his inability. Perhaps something was going on behind the scenes. Food was excellent. Recommend you attend prior to 6p or after 9p. Restaurant is very busy otherwise.
2plates brought out 8 minutes before the other 2. Did not bring side dishes. Waitress unapologetic. Just wanted to know if it was “worth the wait “. Very expensive.
It was an awesome place to take my mother for Mother’s Day. Never been and it was our first time. The service was awesome, the food was great and the atmosphere was very laid back and elegant! I loved it and we were full when we left.
Love that they went back to their classic menu. Amazing choices with out of this world taste. Best service I get in CLT. I always get the oysters and fish special, it never disappoints. My favorite CLT restaurant (and I eat out A LOT).
We ate at Upsream on Wednesday evening with a 6:30 reservation for 2. There were only a few tables of customers then and several more came later. All of our servers, especially Jenn, were friendly and efficient. We ordered the calamari and crab cakes, both excellent. Then I had the trout and my wife the sea bass and both were delicious and the presentation was beautiful. We had prosecco and white wine (Sauvignon blanc) which were well paired with our dishes. The only negative was we didnt have room for dessert, several of which were tempting. This was our first time at Upstream, and we will return soon!
Great options for the tasting menu. Plates are small so I wouldn’t order them a la cate, but perfect for tasting and sharing if you want to try everything!
The food at Upstream was exceptional. Nice quaint setting for a date night or business dinner
This place has incredible food and great service!! I would recommend this place, without a doubt!
Terrific food & service in an upscale setting without having to go all the way downtown - love it, will definitely return. Get the duck breast
Great service and even better food! The Sea Bass is out of this world, pair it with the fried rice. That combination is flavorful and rice. The Sea Bass falls apart as soon as your fork touches it. I would highly recommend this place for date night or even just everyday dining.
Had a wonderful time with delicious fresh and very creative food. Our waiter was fantastic and very attentive. Would absolutely recommend.
My only complaint-at a restaurant of this caliber, the response from a server to a customer's 'thank you' should be 'you're welcome', not 'no problem'. I expect that from fast food employees. It's either 'you're welcome' or 'my pleasure' or 'certainly' or 'of course'. Anything other than 'no problem'.
I dined at Upstream on a Thursday evening, somewhat late at 8 pm so the restaurant was not crowded. I chose to dine inside rather than the patio. The staff was excellent, especially my waiter. He knew the menu well and to my menu queries explained the nuances of the dishes , not in a coached regurgitation but in his own words with wit. The Scottish salmon was pan seared to medium perfection and served so hot I was startled. (It was not from a lamp or microwave but straight from the chef.) The presentation was elegant, enticing me to pause a moment in admiration before digging in. The salmon was outstanding with the Sauvignon Blanc I ordered. The Strawberry torte with white chocolate and strawberry meringue and lemon was a beautiful and delectable follow to the fish or was the fish a preview of the torte? I couldn’t decide. To finish the experience with another flair of thoughtful excellence the valet had my car waiting with the door held open for me. To everyone at Upstream I say, “Bravo!” 👏
All you can eeat sushi for 18 bucks for lunch. While it is on the expensive side, it pays for itself if you get 2 plus rolls. Highly recommend!
We have dined here several times in the past but always considered it a special event when we come. This time we were seated well after our rsvp while watching many people leaving. The food was good but they kept running out of things that were main course meals. Perhaps the kitchen is not able to keep up for the number of guests it was Easter brunch but I don’t think that’s an excuse as the crowd should have been better prepared for in advance. The service was good from lady who kept our table v.clean and plenty of drinks
Bountiful buffet, mediocre food
Went for Easter buffet with a 1:30 reservation. Last reservation available at 2. Offerings that near the end of service were obvious waning. Vegetables and sides were cold. Higher end items like seafood were at times limited or no longer available. Prime Rib was beyond rare and bordered on raw. Lamb was on the other hand over cooked. Desserts were down to 1/2 of what was originally available. That being said - had we come earlier I think the buffet would have and could have been impressive but with two seatings after us and for the cost - I expected better. Service was impeccable. Ambience was excellent. Some items like chicken and dumplings, sushi, and salad options were impressive and above average.
This years food selection and quality was considerably better than what we had experienced the last couple of Easter Brunches. We were very pleased with our experience this year.
Easter brunch. Very good, especially the desserts.
The brunch at Upstream on Easter Day was wonderful! The four people in our family all like different things and we were all very happy with the selection. Of course, a lot of seafood was offered but a large variety of other things too. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic! We will definitely go back for another special occasion.
Delicious Easter brunch with a great spread. The oysters and crab claws were very fresh, and I loved the grilled peach salad and kale salad.
My date and I both agreed that it was ok. We had a good time but no desire to go back. While the place is ok, the service was excellent.
Amazing restaurant with fantastic service! Made a special celebration dinner a wonderful experience.
Adequate service, average food. Watered down martini.
Fantastic food, service and environment. My new spot.
Service is exceptional
Great seafood restaurant, but also offering raw bar, sushi and good cuts of meat. Decor is reminiscent of a New York City business district (midtown) establishment. Would classify as "high end", and the service was excellent. The food was excellent, from the fish, produces and sauces, to the presentation. Flavorful and interesting. A bit pricey, but worth it...
