We went for Queen's Feast on Saturday night. I was able to make a reservation for the same day for 4 people. There were a lot of options for the three courses, it was their entire menu. I ordered the super crunchy roll, salmon, and cheesecake. My fiancé ordered steak nigiri, catfish, and cheesecake. Our friends ordered sushi, tuna, a filet, and creme brulee. The food was good and portions were adequate. The real star of the menu was the super crunchy sushi roll and the chocolate rum cheesecake. Overall, our meal was good. Our bill was over $100 for our meals, 2 beers, a glass of wine, and tip. A little expensive-in my opinion, but no regrets!
Food was very well presented and well prepared. Unexpected and tasty slant on Vietnamese influenced courses. Service was distant at times, but close enough to gather attention. The waiter missed some information on the daily special which would have made me change to another dish. But we both enjoyed our time at this fine venue.
Food and presentation of rolls and sashimi was great!! Roll was fabulous!
We will Be back.
Food was wonderful and so was the service. It was very warm in n the restaurant. The waitress even said she was hot.
Excellent food and friendly and knowledgeable server.
Food was good. Wait staff was friendly, helpful and efficient. Prices a little steep, but you get what you pay for.
Attentive service, creative menu, delicious food. Always a great date night at Upstream.
Celebrating 36 years is a special occasion, and I wanted to ensure we would not be surprised by trying a new restaurant. Having celebrated a previous milestone at Upstream, my expectation level was set. They did not disappoint.
The food was phenomenal, as was the service and drinks. Sometimes you do get what you pay for, and my wife and I were extremely satisfied.
we were very happy with the service, the trout was excellent however, other dishes that our party had were not quite to our expectation and our previous experience over the years prior to menu changes and chef /manager changes
Upstream has been going strong for approaching 20 years, a rarity on the Charlotte scene. It’s always been professional & well-rum, and the menu has evolved so the offerings are always current & exciting. Having said that, our meal yesterday was extraordinary. We started with oysters & calamari, both fresh & tasty, but the headline was the striped bass. This was a special, a 3-lb whole fish, flash-fried with absolutely perfect seasoning, served Asian-style with lettuce, basil & a bowl of sticky rice. Just perfectly cooked & flavorful, the best meal we’ve had in forever. If you’re new to town, or if it’s been a while, get into Upstream. You won’t be disappointed.
The food was well prepared and the service was good. We’ve never been disappointed.
Food was over seasoned and overly oiled. ‘Quality was difficult to discern. Its impossible to eat healthfully there.
Amazing everything !! Josie was the best! Made our evening super special!
We loved our experience at Upstream. The food was amazing! Great atmosphere and great staff! We will be back soon.
Back for the first time in a bit - used to be a favorite restaurant but we don’t live as close by now. The atmosphere was pleasant and dishes like the sea bass and fish special did not disappoint! Beautiful setting. Attention to a number of details seemed lacking, however, all easily remedied. Our server clearly had too many tables in his station, though the restaurants was only 2/3 full maximum - a drink was forgotten, with the waiter admitting it had been “sitting on the bar for quite awhile”; getting salt and pepper required multiple requests (with kudos to an observant busboy);and even then didn’t come at the same time; and, frankly, most disappointing, the mignonette sauce for the oysters was in no way a traditional version - we were expecting a tart, shallot taste, but it was somewhat sweet, with no shallots - not a match for the very good oysters. Would have been nice to comp one dessert for this special occasion, especially given the lapses in service, but far less important. There now are a number of excellent seafood restaurants in town, and we hope Upstream can reclaim its level of excellence.
Food and service was great. We were disappointed they took the Angry Catfish off the menu.
Be more mindful of the background music. Some of it was weak contempo pop fluff, and it was often too loud (avoid mainstream pop vocal hits, stick to genuine jazz, preferably instrumental).
The prices are high. The service was superb, and the food quality was top-tier.
Sea bass and Mussels were very good. The pork belly on skewers were scrumptious the .
Upstream is an excellent, fine dining restaurant! Food was great. We had the buffet and it was worth every penny. Everyone is customer focused but our server Megan made us feel welcome and special.
Will definitely return. It’s our new place for family celebrations!!!!
Upstream appears to have recovered from an uneven period following loss of several chefs. The food and service were excellent and attentive. It is again the best seafood restaurant in Charlotte.
Food was very good. Disappointed that the main dinning room was closed. Would appreciate knowing this before making the reservation. Sat at the bar.
Ridiculous Baby oysters... 2,5 $ each... didn’t enjoy sorry.
Excellent service, our waitress was friendly and had good recommendations for us. We went for our anniversary and had planned to just order several apps/sushi. Calamari was very good but small portion for price. Crab cakes were yummy, 2 nice size cakes good amount for price. Mussels were delicious, portion was good there. Sushi roll was good but just average. I wish there was more variety in the entrees, we didn’t see anything we wanted enough to spend 30-40 dollars on. Having been to upstream a few times over the past 15 years—menu used to be better. Quality remains but needs more variety.
From the moment you walk in the door you feel at home. The staff is amazing. We were seated quickly in their beautiful dining room. The wait staff were incredibly attentive. During the meal the owner came by to ask how we were enjoying our meal. The food was fantastic. The head chef makes a meal a fantastic experience. I had no room for dessert but when I saw the choices I had to squeeze it in.
Took my mother out for Mother’s Day and she had a great time and really enjoyed her food.
The food at Upstream was good...nothing to “write home about”, but it wasn’t bad. I simply expected more from a restaurant at this price point. The menu was limited. I was hoping to find a broad seafood selection. Not the case. There wasn’t even a seafood soup on the menu (there was a miso soup offering). The service left something to be desired. Our waiter was slightly rude. His attempts to be clever came across as abrasive. So, at almost $40 per person, it was not worth it.
Mothers day dinner, she was delighted. Appetizers are awesome
Awesome experience! The Mother's Day Brunch was wonderful, the staff was amazing and i hope to come back again.
The mother's day buffet was perfect. There were just the normal items, but oysters, crab, shrimp, beef tenderloin, and more. Deserts also were outstanding. Highly recommend this buffet and restaurant for your celebrations.
We were so impressed. The food was superb with great choices. Our server was terrific. All in all, it was a home run.
My mom and I came on mother's day and it was delightful. An upscale 5 star buffet all you can eat. Everything down to the drinking water was classy. I enjoyed our waitress, she was funny, helpful and very engaged in our table. It was both of our first time at Upstream and we will definitely be back! Very big restaurant with valet parking and a sophisticated look. We both enjoyed ourselves and Upstream made this Mother's day very memorable!
Applause for Yeti our incredible server who made our experience even better than the food!
My review is with regards to their recent Mother’s Day brunch.
Unfortunately Upstream has changed their brunch format and reverted to days gone by buffet style. In itself, that is fine, however I found the offerings to be lackluster to poor with only a couple standouts (and those were side dishes) . Desserts were pretty pathetic. Not a cheap brunch ($45 pretax and tip no drinks of any kind but water included). Service was good and I like the venue - just wouldn’t do brunch there again.
Our table wasn't ready at the time of our reservation. We waited 20 minutes w/o offer of complimentary drinks, etc. Observed other people wait longer, even after we were seated. Also observed two open/un-bused tables our entire wait time. Finally, one of the two greeters bused and reset the table - which should have happened sooner, so didn't seem to be the original intent or process. Our waiter seemed discombobulated the entire time, and two other waiters attended to us throughout the evening, seemingly making up for his inability. Perhaps something was going on behind the scenes. Food was excellent. Recommend you attend prior to 6p or after 9p. Restaurant is very busy otherwise.
2plates brought out 8 minutes before the other 2. Did not bring side dishes. Waitress unapologetic. Just wanted to know if it was “worth the wait “. Very expensive.
It was an awesome place to take my mother for Mother’s Day. Never been and it was our first time. The service was awesome, the food was great and the atmosphere was very laid back and elegant! I loved it and we were full when we left.
Love that they went back to their classic menu. Amazing choices with out of this world taste. Best service I get in CLT. I always get the oysters and fish special, it never disappoints. My favorite CLT restaurant (and I eat out A LOT).
We ate at Upsream on Wednesday evening with a 6:30 reservation for 2. There were only a few tables of customers then and several more came later. All of our servers, especially Jenn, were friendly and efficient. We ordered the calamari and crab cakes, both excellent. Then I had the trout and my wife the sea bass and both were delicious and the presentation was beautiful. We had prosecco and white wine (Sauvignon blanc) which were well paired with our dishes. The only negative was we didnt have room for dessert, several of which were tempting. This was our first time at Upstream, and we will return soon!
Great options for the tasting menu. Plates are small so I wouldn’t order them a la cate, but perfect for tasting and sharing if you want to try everything!
