I love The Marlton Tavern. Good food at a great local bar.
We had a great dinner and the service was excellent. We had a chocolate martini that was perfect. Love this place!
The service was just bad. No attention to detail. My waitress brought me a bottle of craft beer that wasn't a "twist-top" and just left it at the table - unopened and without a glass (even though I requested one). The waitstaff was just very amateurish and on our way out one of the wait staff was arguing with the hostess.
Overall great experience for the whole family.
Made a reservation a week ahead of time with my handicapped parents. When we arrived, they did not have reservation and they were painting the dining room ( on a Sunday! ). Parents could not walk up stairs to the other dining area so we had to sit in a hastily set table next to the painter ( who continued to work). Waiter was friendly but pretty clueless about the menu and disappeared for long periods ( I had to go into the serving closet to get sweetener before my dads coffee got cold). Looks like they have a good bar but do not go for a real meal. Food was decent and well prepared.
We had never been to the Marlton Tavern, but decided to try it for a birthday celebration. Made a reservation for 2 for 7pm on a Saturday night. But when we arrived at 645, the hostess station was not staffed (vestibule lights were off!) but we could see the bar open so we went in. First bartender stood watching tv and kept his back to us. Another bartender came back to the bar and served us drinks (2 drinks cost us $19) after waiting 45 minutes and only speaking to the busboy and a harried waitress with no optimism that we’d get a table, let alone a meal, we decided we should cut our losses and go to one of our favorite restaurants. I have never before walked out of a restaurant. We won’t be taking a chance on the Marlton Tavern again.
Not a pleasant experience and food was less than mediocre. Definitely not returning.
Good food, good drinks and good service!
The noise level carries throughout. If the room had been full....we were the only ones, it would have been really noisy. As it was....it was still noisy from the bar.
We had a party if six. They sat us upstairs which was perfect. Not too loud.
Excellent good and choices. Pleasant waitstaff. Only complaint, dining area on porch smelled of the disinfectant used to clean the tables
We are 4 local hospital executives having Sunday breakfast that was very disappointing. Open table confirmed a 10 am breakfast/brunch and when we arrived the cleaning woman said they were not open. We waited in parking lot 45 minutes. Employees while opening the restaurant (we were the only ones there) were speaking to each other across rooms at such high voice volume we couldn’t hear our own conversations - it was an awful experience. Where was a manager? We got our food at approx 11 am so at his point we had been there an hour an 15 mins before served. We requested a small comp for our trouble. No manager ever came to apologize. No comp provided. No apology provided. There were 4 of us who know hundreds of people and when all is said and done thousands of people will hear our story and that doesn’t even include social media. We won’t be returning to this tavern ever, for any meal. An apology and a drink or two and quiet respectful servers would have made a big difference we got none of that. Not worth returning and risking the same service when there are so many of establishments out there.
We showed up and was told the kitchen was closed.. they blamed it on Open Table not updating site
It looks like this place went downhill since our last visit. We were seated on the 2nd floor front room. The bench seat was very worn and should be replaced. The food was not hot and 2 of our party sent theirs back. The rest of us ate it the way that it was.
With more competition popping up every day, it is a wonder why the management would let this place run down.
I was there for brunch on Mother's day. The eggs were lukewarm at best as was the bacon. One person had the steak and eggs and said the steak was not good. Only one meal was hot. I have never been there before. Maybe it is better for bar food but their website said that they have a Sunday brunch so I was hoping for more for Mother's Day.
Ate upstairs, very quiet and great service. Only complaint was the 2 people who chose pasta marinara as their side dish, said it was not hot.
The Good: Food and service were really good. I would stop by for lunch and chow down any day! But I would not have another date there.
The Bad: While the service was good, the appearance of the servers was severely lacking. All black stretch clothing. Pants and tops. While this might work for a night club, wasn't that pleasant for a date. The individuals were attractive, the attire was not.
The furniture is in complete disrepair. Every pleather surface is missing the pleather and just has the carrier. That is like every seat in the joint.
Wanted to love it. But the food was NOT GOOD except for the tomato soup. That was delicious. But everything else was mediocre at best and the calamari was really bad. Tasted like it had freezer burn. It is quiet upstairs but very loud downstairs in the bar area and very crowded.
Always friendly servers.
Easter. When we made the reservation they did not indicate that they had a limited menu. They didn’t even have a salad on the limited menu. When we got there the limited menu was even more limited because they had not planned their inventory well. They told us a large party had just ordered the remainder of the fillet mignon. The wait staff did not seem to care and the food we did get was just plain awful. This was our first time there.
Good crab cakes and Italian food. Crisp veggies and juicy steak. Been here a lot and never a bad meal. Eat on the enclosed porch if u can...bar is fine for happy hour but after 6pm gets busy and loud.
Usully have diner not lunch at the Tavern. Would stick to diner.....
Very good place
My wife and I had a chance to dine here. We had a very nice time. A little slow for our drinks to be served but other than that the pace of the meal was excellent. Food wise: our appetizers were delicious! Our entrees were just ok. Not bad mind you just ok. A little under seasoned and a little over cooked. We will definitely dine here again but I think we will take a bit of a different approach. I think the strong point of Marlton Tavern is their bar food. Appetizers, burgers and sandwiches are what they do best here and that is what we'll return for.
Good food and great service. Food wasn’t as hot as I’d like but it wasn’t worth complaining about. I’ll go again.
After booking the reservation, we went to the Tavern for brunch. Wrong date to visit because there was no update on Facebook or website regarding there being no brunch on Superbowl Sunday. Waitress did not know how to ask for a simple drink order when we first sat down and the ingredients on our food order was either missing or overcooked.
Always a cozy spot for a meal. Good food, drinks, service
We had a warm inviting time on New Years eve for dinner. Lots of ambience, great drinks, apps and entrees. They put the fireplace on for us which made our visit so cozy and warm. Our drinks were very good and dinner was excellent. We all agreed to come back again and again.
All was okay, but the dining area, which was a closed off quaint porch, was chilly in the evening. Order their cocktails because they don’t necessarily know how to make classic standards such as a Manhattan. The waitress was new, but very attentive.
My pasta meal with shrimp and scallops was fair. Overprized for the quality of he meal.
Food was excellent. Dining area was kinda cramped area
I was so overwhelmed by the wonderful service. We had the all you can eat crab legs and they were excellent. The waiter kept them coming. I told everyone I know that this is one trip they should make. This is a great dining experience.
Love this spot. Great service and food. Friendly staff.
We had a reservation, one of 2 in the book that I looked at since no one at the check-in desk. I was not happy that we had to go upstairs since my husband is age 85 and breathing problems. He said OK so we climbed the steps with him getting out of breath. Was told we should have specified where we wanted to sit but since we have never been there, have could we specify. Food was fine but we are at the shore a lot and we've eaten a lot of crab cakes so I would not say they are the best in the area as noted in the SJ Magazine. No handicap parking spaces which my husband normally uses. I'm sure this is a popular place for the younger crowd.
Our server was very friendly - she knew we were not happy re seating - and she did try to make our visit pleasant - she did her job very well.
The waitress was so rude we left.
Great find! Very good food and wonderful service. This will become one of our "go to" places for sure!
Was disappointed that they didn't have a full kitchen. Only bar food and sandwiches
I arrived 15 minutes early to my reservation. They had no idea I even had a reservation. They had no computer, little notes on paper spread about their host stand. The man looked dazed and confused and didn't know what to do. Told me I'd have to wait atleast 40 mins so they could get a table together as he frantically ran around scattered brained. The place is run down and murky looking. We left without ever getting our table.
The service on the second floor was terrible. It took over an hour for our food to come out. Drinks took about 30 mins. This was on Father's Day, but we were the only people in the upstairs dining room. Seems like forgetting about people up there is a constant problem.
The food was good but the service was slow. The waitress forgot our drinks and we had to go to the bar to get our own. Also the food seemed to take forever and so did taking our orders
