The Stand Ratings and Reviews
Great stand up comedy entertainment. We laughed a lot! Don’t go there if you get offended easily. Need to be ready for any topics from the comedians. Food was very good and service was great. Unique menu items. Overall it was a highlight of our weekend trip to NYC!
My son & I have been here for dinner often in the past. We always sit in the ground floor dining area (versus the comedy club / bar downstairs). We returned here for lunch when he was home from college. The lunch menu is very limited compared to the full dinner menu. We give high marks to the steak sandwich & The Stand burger. We also loved the well-flavored handcut chips. However, the "tasty-looking" fish tacos were disappointing due to the fact that the chef failed to season the tilapia fish. It was very bland. Some simple salt before breading & frying them would've been good enough. The waitress was attentive among the 4 groups of lunchtime patrons. The food is consistently unique & very good overall. Highly recommend for dinner versus lunch.
The Alex team on our brunch Pulsd voucher was superb. They delivered great service, was attentive and our mimosa glasses were never empty. The food was delicious ie: the burger and the chicken and waffles. Ambiance is dingy and not the best, needs some work. Also some tables are too small. For brunch it's a great bottomless spot.
Unfortunately the service ruined our experience. We were not given silverware, she was faced with her back to us on her phone for the majority of the time. We asked for the wine list and she never came back. Delivered desert with no silverware for that either so ice cream melted. Had to chase her for the check. Horrible experience for the price. Will not go back.
I didn't realize that The Stand was a bar/restaurant (really more of a bar with some tables) and a comedy club downstairs! We went for dinner and the food was pretty good. The atmosphere was pretty disappointing for me since it really is a dingy looking bar with pretty good food. If that what was what I had expected it would have been okay so no blame on the place. The lobster salad on avocado toast was very good, the caesar salad was good and my chicken dish wasn't great. I'd like to try the comedy club downstairs!
This place was well worth it. The staff was great! Food was on-point. In fact, I went with friends I haven't seen in months so we wanted to sit and stay. I've been in the service industry so I respect the fact the staff needs to turn tables. However, no one rushed us out and the place was not to crowded that we ended up sitting for close to 4 hrs.
It's not that this wasn't a good restaurant; it just was more of a bar than a brunch spot. It was dark and I feel like it was more happy hour ambiance than brunch.
First, the staff was very nice and friendly. Enjoyed the interaction. There weren't many other customers there, so they were very attentive.
I enjoyed the PB&J French toast; my friend said her eggs Benedict was just average. Nothing that separates it from other brunch spots
They do offer a good unlimited boozy brunch deal, but we weren't looking for that kind of day.
I decided to offer myself a birthday gift by having eight friends&family out for drinks, food and a good laugh. We all had a great time! You can't have a perfect night out, all in the same place for less than 1500$, including a great standup comedy show with "A" list comedians anywhere else!
I went here on a double date for my Birthday, the food and drinks were great, the service was pretty good and I laughed so hard at the comedy show, the only thing was that they never brought out my Bday cake lol but I understand ppl get busy so I definitely would go back.
Awesome spot with superb service and very reasonable prices. I went with a group of 5 and we got a "bucket" of beers (5 for $25, which was fantastic), and we all loved our food. Even when the place got busy close to showtime, The Stand wasn't too loud. Our server was super friendly and we also got a free desert using the discount from Yelp. Customer service was A++!
I was in town from South Carolina visiting my son and niece and took them there yesterday. I was also scouting out a place for my nieces 21st birthday when her family comes up as well. What a disappointing brunch. If you are into Graham and his gyrations around the bar, getting drunk, serving alcohol to minors eating bad carbs, and struggling through an awful Bloody Mary that tasted like a bottle of cocktail sauce, and no stalk of celery???)it's the place to be. I thought it was going to be some trendy spot, imagine my shock.
My friend and I decided to come eat at The Stand before seeing the show downstairs. The convenience can't be beat. She enjoyed the chicken paillard and I had the mac and cheese, which was tasty but very oily and the kale and apple salad, which was very lemony. Together they balanced each other out.
Food was ok. Servers were pleasant but seemed inexperienced. Tried to serve appetizers after entrees(and that was after waiting a while).
They have a comedy club downstairs so the restaurant upstairs seems like an afterthought. It would be fine for some ok bar food and a drink.
We did dinner at the restaurant before the 10 pm comedy show. Food was a great blend of something for everyone, new ideas (umm cheeseburger dumplings!?), chic cocktails. It was a little pricey (dinner for 5 with many drinks, apps for each and dinner was $350 before tip). I got seared tuna on the house salad and the piece of tuna was a great portion (big!) and seriously perfectly done!
The food was great, and the drinks amazing. Although the portions were extremely small , and the food very pricey. We shared an ap, had one drink each, and one of us had a main salad and the other sandwich and the bill was over $160 - and we both left still hungry. Would not return due to the portion size and cost. This is bar food, not a steak house.
They have a pretty unique brunch menu, and the option to do unlimited boozy brunch. They offer beer battered PB&J (not in the boozy special), red velvet waffles, chocolate chip pancakes, and all of your other traditional brunch eats.
My only criticism is they should offer a smoked salmon benedict option, or another egg option with no pork, besides the omelette.
I have been several times, and I haven't been disappointed yet.
The crowd can get a little loud, but when you go for unlimited boozy brunch, that's to be expected.
Definite thumbs up from me :-)
I took my wife here for our wedding anniversary before one of the comedy shows downstairs. There was much to like about this place: the ambiance, the food was fantastic (better than it needed to be for a comedy club), the server was very attentive, and we weren't rushed at all.
The one MAJOR con: since it was our anniversary, I ordered flowers, through OpenTable, to be delivered to the restaurant beforehand. When my wife and I checked in with the hostess, she says really loudly, "I have a note here that you had flowers delivered? They're sitting in our freezer." Thanks for ruining the surprise by saying that in front of my wife! So much for seamless service and maybe having them already on a table or bringing them out with the appetizers -- anything so it would be a surprise!
Overall, I'd return again -- just not for a special occasion when I was hoping to surprise someone. The food was outstanding (the chocolate lava cake is decadent), and the comedy was pretty great too.
First time at The Stand, was visiting from the UK with friends and brought along a New Yorker who had also never been.
Food was outstanding, service was excellent, and the comedy show was hilarious. Had an absolute blast on all levels and will definitely be back soon.
Would recommend to anyone who likes good food, big beers, and laughter.
Came to the Stand for a comedy show on a date. We came to have drinks and food beforehand. Service was a little slow but the place was packed so that was understandable. Food was excellent and the show was hysterical. I've been before but I will continue to come back.
