UpRoot Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Have been going to Uproot since it’s founding and have visited through every management and kitchen change.
Just starting to see the place slip in the ranks for the first time. Two reasons....The wine list by the glass is benign. Used to be better selections—like when someone tasted a wine and put it on the list because the taste was a priority.... not profit. For example, the Cloudline Pinot isn’t a good wine at all and there are many better choices at a similar price point.
Then on to the food... the size of the dishes are shrinking and the amount of proteins are proportionally smaller. Leads me again to question hunt for profit over quality/quantity.
Also the execution in the kitchen is down a notch. Previous chefs did a much better job.
This was my first time at UpRoot and we really enjoyed it. I had the pork chop; my husband had the lamb. Both were delicious (highly seasoned); the menu is suburb offering a wide variety of choice. It was very loud but that did not spoil the evening. The service was exceptional. I highly recommend and look forward to my next visit.
Went to Uproot for Saturday night dinner with my husband. We loved it! We shared 6 smaller plates, and we loved everything we had. The menu features a lot of different options, so there is something for everyone, from the basic to the adventurous. I especially recommend the Umami Bowl and the Korean Broccoli. The restaurant is beautiful and modern, with high ceilings and interesting art and décor. Our server was attentive and friendly. We will definitely return!
The food, atmosphere, and service were wonderful. We had the steam buns, umami bowl, kimchi tots, and lobster crostini. The umami bowl and tots were delicious. The steam buns were good but could use just a little more sauce. The crostini we weren't really fans of. The rest of the menu looked great as well. Will definitely be returning!
Second time here and we brought two other couple this time around. Tried a few small plates as apps and none of them disappointed . The steam buns are my favorite so we had to order two plates. They were accompanied by the buffalo cauliflower, hummus and olive dip and the tuna poke. Not much left on any plate.
The entrees were equally enjoyed. From the Shrimp and Grits, the Halibut , the Short Ribs tacos...all fantastic.
Our server, Phil, was very knowledgeable and friendly with the proper amount of time table side. By that I mean attentive but never intrusive.
We live about an hour away but worth the drive and we will certainly return.
We moved from NY to NJ 3 years ago and have been UNSUCCESSFULLY SEARCHING for a full package restaurant that had a NY vibe, quality food, yet with a personable air, like a local eatery. Delighted to say, we FOUND it at UPROOT
Menu speaks to every food mood you could possibly be in, the service from PHILIP was over the top, sweetheart who had great recommendations. Could have used a rose' wine or two to choose from but was satisfied with my Pinot Noir choice.
Pizza's looked magnificent, which will be the point of our next visit this week.
It's unquestionably one of the best places we have been to since moving to NJ and trust me we have been to many at all price points!!!!
Just a point for Management, the SERVERS SHIRTS MUST GO! Does not support your brand, at all. I have a feeling, not a favorite for your wait staff either.......
Keep up the good work!!
As usual, our dinner was superb. We always order a bunch of apps to try and could not have been more pleased. The buffalo cauliflower so was good.
Never had a bad meal here, but this time everything and I mean everything, was 100% delish!
Thank you and thank you for offering so many gluten free options that I can trust are safe.
My friends and I were looking forward to having the short rib tacos but were told that they ran out. Very disappointed since menu was limited with items that appealed to me. Also, ordered donuts for dessert. They were out of those as well but had one left that the four of us shared. Very good but disappointed in the fact that they did t have enough. It was a Thursday night. Didn't think food quantities would be an issue. Other than that, good service, pleasant ambiance.
The buffalo cauliflower is lightly brraded, spicy and really yummy. Service there is always excellent. I had the fig artisanal pizza which was good. One in our party had the burger- which is always delicious there. We skipped dessert this time so can't comment on that. We asked for a more quiet table as the main part of the restaurant is always pretty noisy. It was fine in the back and we could enjoy a conversation.
Our first visit to UpRoot for my husband's birthday was outstanding! The food was terrific and the desserts (which we rarely indulge in) were delicious! Most notable, the service was extremely attentive and helpful. Our waitress was a delight. We will most definitely be returning.
Every time I come to this restaurant I am more and more impressed with the menu and service. They are constantly reinventing themselves to stay inline with new trends and flavors all while maintaining a relaxed and friendly service.
This is truly our favorite restaurant for when we are dining with friends that have varying palates and dietary restrictions or for a nice night our for a small bite and a drink by ourselves
Creative Innovative Fusion. We had the artichoke and ricotta flatbread, steamed buns, short rib tacos, buffalo cauliflower, fig and prosciutto pizza.. all excellent. I probably wouldn't get the artichoke flatbread again but it was good. The others were just so much better. Donuts for dessert not to be missed. This place never disappoints. I recommend ordering two things, then have them then order two more etc. otherwise everything comes out of the kitchen fast and you will be done quickly.
I picked an evening when the weather was hot and started off with an Old Fashion at the bar. And because we were early ask if we could sit outside. And yes, there was and open table available...!!! It was a great evening, the weather was right, the company super, and the food was excellent....!!
Dined at UpRoot on a Friday night to celebrate my birthday with my husband and 2 yr old. While they are "kid friendly" just note they do have limited high chairs, so we had to put our child in a booth with booster seat which made it impossible to keep her in her seat. Enjoyed the guacamole as an app, the chips they come with are delicious. For our entrees we have the Shrimp & Grits and the Short Rib Tacos. The tacos were delicious and the sauce on the short ribs was so good! The shrimp & grits while tasty.. the grits seemed really undercooked and were not creamy which is how I'd prefer them to be cooked. Not sure if thats the way they want them for the dish but it was still good nonetheless. I'd definitely come back again as they have a very creative menu and cool ambiance.
Very pleasant dining experience. On a Thursday evening Uproot was busy and quite lively. The restaurant does not feel cramped at all and seating is comfortable with spacing. Our server, Daria, was pleasant, professional and very effective. The truffle fries appetizer are not on the menu but are available and are delicious and worth asking for. The Bar Pie pizza was good, not great. Very tasty but suffered a bit from a soggy crust in the middle. The Stir Fried Rice was excellent but be cautioned, the portion size is gigantic! We ordered a half portion (at Daria's recommendation) and even that was way more than one person could eat.
A nice place to dine with what appeared to be a lively after-work scene too.
