Built around a California-style culinary philosophy that takes heavy cues from the seasons, Upland balances a familiar rusticity with a smart global approach, all enhanced with a New Yorker’s eye for detail. The restaurant offers an artful array of starters, entrees and sides, each plate accented with chef Justin Smillie’s enticing and urbane touch. The wine program, overseen by beverage manager Chantelle Pabros, matches the excitement coming out of Upland’s open kitchen, with a worldly 500-bottle list and a clever by-the-glass selection that’s remarkably food-friendly.

Upland Ratings and Reviews
I went here for brunch for my birthday and it was great! We got a pastry basket which I normally don’t care for but everything in it was absolutely delicious. For our entrees we all ordered the eggs benedict which I looooved. The lemon on the hollandaise sauce makes it a tangy and different. Would highly recommend this place!
Everything from start to finish is delicious. We loved the salads, sausage and kale pizza and the bucatini cacao e pepe. Main courses were roasted salmon and upland cioppino. All delicious. Sit in one of the comfy booths if you can. We can’t wait to go back.
Reservations required. I have been to Upland many times and particularly love their weekend brunch. My last two visits were slightly disappointing, and all on the service side. Curt welcome, rushed food (they brought entrees before we were done with apps), and we were charged for pricey cocktails we didn't order at lunch (we weren't even drinking). Updates to service would help the stellar food, so I continue to bring friends.
The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous, but I think I ordered the wrong thing. My steak tartare did not come with anything (bread, crackers etc.) to dip in it and my squash was very sweet. That being said, my friend's food was excellent and the wine list is great.
We had been to Upland for brunch and loved it. The menu was varied, fun, and delicious. Alas, the lunch menu is way more limited: not even a side of vegetables available, really! The salad was good, fresh and copious but the salmon was very skimpy. Service very slow. The plzce is hip but sadly relies on that and does not meet basic expectations!
Burger over cooked- coffee never came after we waited forever. Asked for check and suddenly they offer the coffee “to go”. REALLY? (We’re was it 10 minutes ago?) ITS JUST COFFEE PEOPLE! NOT HARD. $45 for 2 burgers and fries. Better service and food for that price at 21 Club and frankly about 50 other places in NYC.
Very impressed by upland this weekend. Husband and I went for a late brunch/lunch at 1:45pm and the coffee was served to us in individual copper pots which was so classy. The frittata and gem salad were both so fresh and had a great combination of flavors. We got the mushrooms as a side and it was a whole fungi tree, which was out of this world. The cocktail my husband got was also delicious (aperol spritz with splash of grapefruit juice). All in all, this place far exceeded my expectations and I would not hesitate to return. Not a cheap date, but totally worth it. YUMM.
This was our first time at Upland. We were very pleased with our brunch. The food was very good and the service was excellent. The ambience and the decor were also very pleasing. I would definitely recommend Upland and expect that I will be going back. I would, however, definitely recommend making a reservation. It was very crowded - appears to be a very popular choice. We had a 1:00 reservation for Sunday brunch and had no wait whatsoever for our table. It was very nice to see that our reservation was honored right on time.
