Built around a California-style culinary philosophy that takes heavy cues from the seasons, Upland balances a familiar rusticity with a smart global approach, all enhanced with a New Yorker’s eye for detail. The restaurant offers an artful array of starters, entrees and sides, each plate accented with chef Justin Smillie’s enticing and urbane touch. The wine program, overseen by beverage manager Chantelle Pabros, matches the excitement coming out of Upland’s open kitchen, with a worldly 500-bottle list and a clever by-the-glass selection that’s remarkably food-friendly.

Awesome job again !
It’s a shame the wine choice got delayed. In turn we slowed up on the starters, then the main courses showed up so all got a little out of sync. Not the norm for such a polished eatery, it’s the small things that make or break it at this level. That said we’ll be back for the duck wings, the octopus and the fun atmosphere real soon....
We sent my 80+ year-old parents for a NYC holiday getaway, and reserved a dinner at Upland, which they loved. It made them feel hip, they adored the food and enjoyed the energy and ambiance. In the words of my dad, "We got there and it seemed loud, but one bottle of wine later, it was perfect." I love that Upland represented a modern New York experience for a special trip.
Went to Upland for brunch with my fiancé for our anniversary. We found the ambience and service to be pleasant however the food was terrible (and definitely over priced). We ordered two dishes.. the eggs from hell and the fritata and both were extremely salty. We also got a side of fries which were actually really good. After paying almost $80 for brunch it's shame when u leave hungry (ie, we didn't eat our food). Definitely will not be coming back and would not recommend this place (at least not for brunch).
Late (2:30) lunch this time , few tables still occupied but the ambiance is terrific and the decor very comfortable. Split an appetizer (tuna carpaccio), salad ( farro & chickpea), entree (margherita pizza).......fantastic lunch for two. Wine list is broad and well curated with many affordable bottles. Service is efficient, pleasant, and professional. Pricing is fair
The starter salad was great, as was dessert. I was a little disappointed in my main dish, the chia seed crusted Cod, because the smoked cabbage served with it, had way too much smoke flavor, which over came the other flavors. Upland is a pretty and energetic place. I would go back and try a different main dish.
We had a delicious brunch experience at Upland from start to finish.
Service and food was outstanding.
Bellinis ⭐️, Skirt Steak & eggs, ⭐️ I loved the spaghettini ❤️
Homemade warm Cookies for dessert ⭐️
Thank you Susan for everything it was nice to meet you.
Note: This is our second visit to Upland,
our dinner last month was fantastic and service from Africa brought us back.
We will return when we are back in NY.
We had lunch. Everything was terrific. Service was attentive but not overly doting. My only complaint was my disappointment in not being able to order a medium rare hamburger. Seeing more of these 2 Thin burgers on menus rather than in my opinion the delight of a big juicy flavorful hamburger.
So I picked something else but the disappointment shadowed the lunch.
Ordered the Caesar salad and shared a pizza with my husband. Neither of which were what would have soothed my soul after cooking for thanksgiving for two days.
I will always be a medium rare girl!
I dined at the Upland in Miami and had a great experience. I cannot say enough good things about it. This past weekend I had brunch at Upland in NY and it was far from what I thought it was going to be. Service was extremely rude, especially the hostess. We waited awhile for our eggs to come out and when we received them they were cold. I normally love all Starr restaurants however I will not be dining here again. Very disappointing.
This was our first visit to Upland. We'd been to a show on Broadway and took a late reservation here. First off, my wife and I like to sit side by side and they honored that request, even though they were pretty full when we arrived and we are always impressed when that happens. We opened up with a nice cocktail, ordered an opener, salad, and two mains (pasta and duck), and paired it with a lovely wine recommended by the wine steward after a short discussion. We finished with dessert and coffee. Even though we were eating late, the meal was not rushed and the staff did not seem bothered that we were there late, which is not always the case in a good restaurant. The food itself was nicely prepared/seasoned and plated well. The space is large and can be a bit "busy", but that was not a hindrance for us. If you are in this part of NYC, we'd recommend Upland.
