I've been to Upland a handful of times, once for dinner and a few times for lunch. The food is almost always spot on. I had a Cacio Pepe that was just as tasty as the Cacio Pepe I ate in Rome. The duck wings were crispy and super tasty, and the wine is on point. I wish the servers would seat parties before all members of the party arrive. This is a NY thing and I know it's because they're busy and don't want to take up tables. But if you have the reservation (i.e., the table), why not seat you so you can start looking at the menu and ordering drinks? Most nice restaurants in NYC do that, but not Upland. This combined with the busy-ness of the restaurant lessens the ambiance somewhat, especially for those special occasion dinners. However, the food is good enough to draw me back.

Bright open space designed with the California-inspired menu in mind. Service was super friendly and welcoming. Food was excellent.

While the food is outstanding, the noise level was a public health injury to the ears. Impossible to have a conversation without yelling. Had a sore throat the next day and tinnitus. Unable to return for dinner anytime soon. Also felt pressured to pay and leave after 2 hrs.

Very poor service. Was given the dinner menu at lunch and then had to reorder because items were not served at lunch. Asking for bread three times retuned one single piece of fried bread to share, after 20 minutes. Mains took too long to arrive. I have eaten here before and recommend it to friends and this was a farce. Not a good impression for an international business associate.

Went with visiting family. Started out a little annoyed that we showed up early and were told to get a drink at a bar... 20 mins (and 1 drink per person later) we were seated at the same empty table that we had been staring at the whole time...

Once seated, however, we were given the rundown of the menu by a very knowledgeable and honest server. The duck wings appetizer is arguably the best “wing” I’ve ever eaten. The gem salad was absolutely delicious. Two of us got the cacio a Pepe which was good and then one got the steak (ordered medium rare and I would’ve said it was medium but it was a very thin cut).

Overall it was delicious and I would definitely go back!

The place is really nice, and super cool decoration. Food is good, specially the gem salad and the cod.
The only flaw, is that we found the place extremely noisy.

My new favorite cocktail: ‘Italian Sour.’ Bravo!

Service: Excellent.

This was my second visit to Upland. My first experience was for lunch, as a business meal.

This time, I went with a group of friends, for dinner.

-Our bartender, the creator of the ‘Italian Sour,’ was great, and he even explained the story behind the drink.

-Later, at the table, our server was delightful. She was very patient, and she explained every single dish on the menu.

Food: Overall, delicious. However, I ordered the pappardelle spicy sauce ragú, and I thought it was far too salty.

Then, we ordered the peach and ice cream dessert. The peach was not sweet, at all. And it was buried under a huge amount of whipped cream.

I realised tasty can vary, I’m just providing my individual feedback.

While the food was amazing, the noise level was beyond unpleasant. You could not hear the guests at your own table. We read it was a quiet & romantic spot but we were surrounded by groups of young girls you showed no consideration to the other diners. I would try it again on a weeknight on the early side as we really loved the food.

Our food took a while to come out, I wasn’t particularly bothered by it as my friend and I were just catching up, but the waiter so graciously brought out 3 amazing donuts on the house, it made the whole brunch so much more memorable!

Food was great - steak tarter was on point, fish for two was juicy, fresh and tasty. The steak was perfect and the service was patient, understanding and efficient - our waiter was a cool cat. Drinks were solid as well and you serve the right coffee !!! Wonderful job !!!!

AMAZING service. Kiel was a delight. I work in customer service so I definitely take notice. He was enigmatic and wonderful. The food was excellent and big enough portions to share. My 4 year old loved the pizza. The cheesecake was very unique and the coffee was fresh, we loved the steamed milk as a great touch. We would definitely go back.

Will not return. They practice the unpleasant policy of not allowing the first person to arrive to be seated, but must wait until all 3 of us are assembled. Really! Drinks fill half the glasses - this looks and feels chintzy, not generous, not welcoming and surely expensive. And the noise level is head-splitting. This is our 3rd visit and never again. Sorry.

Greeted by a haughty staff at the door who thought he was God’s gift to mankind. Served by a waiter who had a blasé attitude - insincere & spoke like he was reading off a script. Food was good except for the cookie basket so don’t order that as dessert. We’ve always experienced great service at Upland but tonight, it left a bad taste our mouths.

The pasta here is phenomenal, just order all of them and eat family style. The restaurant is spacious and has great ambiance, somehow captures being upscale and casual at the same time. The service was flawless, they really pay attention to every detail. Prices were great. 5 stars all around.

What a great place! Visited for brunch with my family. Burger and fries were on point. The skirt steak was amazing. The flavors worked so well together, the fried eggs and romanesco sauce really gave it a delicious flair. Would definitely return-and soon!

Address is misleading since the entrance is on 26 th- the fellow in the office building on Park looked a little weary of giving directions( in other words use the 26 th St as an address) lovely hostess, fabulous waiter, great atmosphere and terrific food. Will definitely return.

We were celebrating my husband’s promotion, and decided on Upland after having a great experience at the Miami location while on vacation last year. We were seated promptly and received the booth we requested. Our server was a sweet girl, although she must have been new as she wasn’t the most knowledgeable about the ingredients in the items on the menu. The manager, I assume that’s who she was, kept coming over to make sure we were ok. The whole staff was very attentive to the tables and made sure our glasses were always full and our table was neat.
The icing on the cake for me, was the manager congratulating my husband on his promotion as we walked out the restaurant! Loved that she paid attention to the Open Table notes. I’ve worked in customer service for over 10 years and this restaurant definitely tries to take the extra steps that are unfortunately rare these days.

Second trip to Upland every bit as successful as the first. A creative menu, good service, decent prices for NYC, makes this place well worth getting off the tourist track, tho out-of-towners should be cautioned that it can sometimes takes weeks to get the reservation time you most want.
The cacio e pepe is almost as good as as what you find in Rome. The chicken is more special than it sounds, and the spicy lamb--formidable. Nothing I've had here tastes like anything I've had elsewhere. Very distinctive in everything the chef tries.

Creme fraiche ice cream--an unexpected thrill. Incredibly rich.

Inexcusably poor food; a dry, burnt pizza, a cilantro-infused chicken with cilantro-covered sides and no cilantro mention on the menu, and an overall disappointment. Shame.

The space is airy and open with great lighting but high ceilings welcome high noise levels, acceptable though . We were greater by a smiling courteous house who sat us immediately. Our waitress was curt and unsmiling , no nonsense no personality . The Little Gem salad was right out of a package , walnuts , roumaine , tasteless cheese. Avacado .. nondescript dressing , Fluke curdo . We came for the Crispy Mushroom and they were out ! Pappardelle was tasty by not outstanding , Branzino for 2 was brought to table with other entrees then removed to be deboned which took a while. Duck was ok . Dishes and glasses were removed immediately as fast as possible sometimes before that last sip or bite was taken . Bread /butter was delicious. Wine list extensive with a good range of prices . Expensive restaurant, good space, very hurried service,just ok food ... once was enough for us .

We had been trying to get there for several months but weren’t able to get a reservation till this past Sunday . Our kids live in the area and it’s a great dinner spot. My only complaint was the air conditioning was really not working well and it did create an issue for fully enjoying the experience to its fullest

I really wanted to like Upland. Loved their menu and couldn’t wait to try it. We were right on time for 8:15 resy, all parties together, yet waited 1/2 hour to be seated. Then we were put at a round table next to waiters area AND in front of an emergency exit. I do not think FDNY would approve Upland!
Our waiter was great, explained everything well Drinks very expensive. Makers on the rocks $18. Ridiculous. Shared two pizzas and wings...enjoyed by all. Dining companion stated porchetta very dry. Duck as well cooked and I did love the gnudi.
Cookie platter fun. Noise level nearly unbearable in front of restaurant. We were glad to be in the back at our emergency exit table.
All in all, am sorry to say I would not return. Disappointed.

While the food and the service were good, the noise level was unacceptable and the tables were much too close together for comfort. The very large and good salad was served with very large lettuce leaves filling a plate and overflowing off onto the table and me until l requested plating it in a bowl. The chairs are attractive but oddly shaped and hard to maneuver.
The staff members were unfailingly attentive and hospitable.
