Up The Creek Ratings and Reviews
Longtime favorite. Perfect for an intimate dinner for two or a larger gathering with friends. The entees can be a bit on the heavy side - but a bowl of chicken tortilla soup and a crisp salad are perfect for a lighter meal. We always get the peach cobbler for dessert. Enjoy!
Overall very good experience. Beautiful setting and diverse menu choices. Good wine selection as well. Our party of 4 had halibut and elk and both were very good, huckleberry sauce on elk was outstanding --although the elk ordered medium rare was served extremely rare.
My wife and I had a reservation for a Sunday night dinner. When we arrived the restaurant was pretty empty and we requested an outside table which we also got. The hostess was not really friendly and did not seem to enjoy her job.
My wife had a Moscow Mule which was good, but nothing special. I had a glass of white wine which was good.
We had the Calamari appetizer which was very tasty. My wife enjoyed the trout and I liked the salmon. So the food overall was very good.
The service was fine, but not outstanding.
A large group came when we were almost done. They put together some tables together to accommodate them. At that time the quiet enjoyment of the dinner was over.
Also the table immediately next to ours was given to a group of five. That table was extremely close to ours and the conversation between these people was annoying.
Went here for Dinner on Friday night with a reservation at 7:45 pm. We were promptly seated and the wait staff was very attentive. Members of our party had the Beet Salad, Elk Tenderloin, Halibut, and Trout, all of which were delicious. Portion sizes were perfect with creative side pairings. The restaurant sits right on Gore Creek running through the heart of Vail, offering a very nice view. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant.
We sat outside where we could fully enjoy the creek flowing by as well as the many kids, dogs, and adults playing in the adjacent park. Inside seemed a bit dark and a bit stale, so outdoors was a good move. The service was friendly, helpful, and hit the right balance of attentive but not overly attentive. We enjoyed their spin on calamari (which was heavy on the chorizo). The beet salad was more salad than beets but well balanced, not too heavy on the dressing, and good flavor. We probably should have skipped their version of tortilla soup and new england clam chowder -- both were pretty conventional, not that that's bad, just not very imaginative. Ruby trout was an excellent presentation, cooked nicely, with the flavor of the fish leading the way.
It was a pleasant surprise that the food was top notch. Often in destination towns such as Vail, the food can be expensive but not as imaginative. Not so at Up the Creek. The dishes were innovative, the flavors were well thought out, and the execution of the cooking and plating were excellent. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to other chefs.
Great place to eat a casual dinner overlooking Gore Creek. We always start with the truffle fries w/ blue cheese. The cocktails are mixed just right and you cannot go wrong on any of the menu choices. This time we ordered salads and crab cakes and they were delicious. Jules our server was friendly and helpful. Always dine here on our annual Vail July visit.
Delightful Creek side patio enhanced the twilight dining experience. Trout beside a trout stream? Of course! Ruby trout on a bed of potato hash with spinach and blue crab was very good, but the carpaccio appetizer stole the show, with a mouth-watering aioli complementing the beef, arugula, and Parmesan.
We both had the trout, served with some crab, spinach and potatoes, and a wonderful mustard sauce. A bottle of Infamous Goose sauvignon blanc was perfect. We had a table by the window and enjoyed the views of the creek and the people enjoying it. Our server was excellent.
