Up The Creek
We have enjoyed Up the Creek for many years and always have family gatherings there!
Wow! Hands down one of our favorite places when we're back in Vail. Absolutely fabulous food and fantastic service. Great recommendations from our server and not disappointed. Kudos to the hostess for seating a large table full of kids towards the back too!! Thank you! See you next trip!!
We've eaten here on several previous ski trips and it's been great every time. Saved it 'til last day this time hoping for a memorable evening and Up The Creek came through again. Great food preparation and presentation and friendly, attentive service. Pleasing, quiet atmosphere.
Wonderful menu! Everyone loved their dinner! Shared the best truffle fries ever!
Meh. Limited menu, not super good. Fine, but for the price there are better options in Vail.
We dined later in the evening well after the rush. The quality of the food was wonderful. Our server Sarah was the best!
Our waitress was hands down the best! We went to celebrate our two boys birthdays and so happy we chose this for our dinner. Dinner was excellent, you can’t go wrong with the Elk- the wine list was wonderful as well.
Loved this place! We had the elk, bison and trout which were all wonderful. And you have a lovely view of the creek. One of our favorite all time restaurants, and we are from New York where they have plenty!
Always delicious, service is excellent!
The location is beautiful situated alongside a mountain creek (hence the name) with floor to ceiling windows so everyone can enjoy the view. The food and service were excellent. Our college-aged sons loved the crème brulee.
Great service from host to server
Would highly recommend
Two of the 4 of us ordered Elk. When it was served everything on the plate was cold. We returned it and when it came back it was warm and overcooked. The portion was very small for the price. The restaurant did the right thing and took the two meals off the bill. The other two meals were very good.
Up the Creek never lets us down. We started with soups, mine was the Clam Chowder which had a nice kick to it. My husband had the Elk for dinner, which I’ve also enjoyed in the past. It is divine! I emoted the trout with mustard sauce. Nice selection of cocktails and wine, friendly service, great window seat overlooking Gore Creek.
We have eaten here many times over the years, and never had a bad experience. The location right at the creek is also beautiful. The food is fresh and well prepared and prices are reasonable. Highly recommended.
Food was excellent. Lovely view. Waitperson unnecessarily snippy. Enjoyable nonetheless.
The service was wonderful from the moment we walked in the door. Food superb!
Lovely restaurant on Gore Creek. The food is delicious! Had mussels for an appetizer, trout for me and elk for my son as a main course. Second visit here in 3 mos. and we enjoyed it as much as the first time. Highly recommend!
We had to wait about a half an hour by the cold entrance for our table. They seemed to be a bit understaffed for a busy Saturday night. Once seated, however, the service was good, and our meal was delicious.
Quiet local place out of the hustle and bustle. Friendly staff and very good food.
Nice place, well run, but the food was not of the caliber that one would expect for a fine restaurant.
My son had the Elk and I had the lamb chops and both were poor to average.
Excellent food and service. The menu is small, but well chosen. The wine list is extensive and reasonably priced for Vail. The by the glass list is full of very good value wines and most of them are selected because they are a good match for food. Highly recommend is the chicken tortilla soup. A bowl can easily be shared by 2 or three people. The elk tenderloin is my favorite dish.
The elk tasted funny. We get it every time we come to Up the Creek but this time it did not taste fresh.
Having dined at Up the Creek in prior years, we were again excited to enjoy the evening there. However, we were most disappointed throughout the evening. Our reservations at 5:30 indicates to you that the restaurant was not yet filled. Our waitress, G___, barely greeted us as she appeared at our table. Without emotion, she took our order for a Starter (calamari) followed by a salad. She next appeared and asked us if we wanted dessert! Taken aback, we responded that we wanted an entree' - and ordered the fresh trout. The trout (and its presentation) was typical - the entire meal was ordinary. However, most unsettling was the lack of interest, warmth, curiosity from our waitress regarding our meal or our dining experience. How unfortunate also was to hear that our experience was not unique as we spoke with other skiers who had dined there recently. I hope that Up The Creek can resume its highest standard of excellence in both service and unique excellence in food and presentation. Regrettably this review is offered ...
We are long time fans of UTC.
We started in 1990.
This visit was a bit disappointing.
UTC has all the charm & potential you would ever expect.
It still has a friendly unique Vail style.
The kitchen lacks a bit in exicution compared to previous visits.
Service staff training also lacks from previous visits
UTC doesn’t disappoint.
It is well worth the experience.
We were in on a Saturday night, so made a reservation and were seated right away. Luckily our table was in the corner, as otherwise the noise might have made it difficult to hear. We shared the carpaccio, which I really enjoyed. The mustard was a good touch. I got the elk and my boyfriend got the NY strip. Both were delicious, and properly cooked for our preferences. I appreciated the waitress mentioned to get the elk medium rare. I would not say its the best steak I've ever eaten, but still very nice quality and great flavor. I particularly liked the coffee in the rub, and the farro risotto. Service was very good, only real issue would be the noise does interfere with the ambiance.
Always a great experience!
Omg my favorite dining experience in Vail . I love fresh farm to table food. It was simple and tasty. Warm tabouli salad was outstanding!
One of our favorite restaurants in Vail and we went twice this time. We both ordered the scallops and absolutely the best I have ever had. I also ordered the beet salad and I highly recommend it. We always make our reservations on Open Table as it is a very popular place.
Absolutely outstanding from the minute we walked in until we left. Our dinners were simply perfect. Short ribs were out of this world. Warm bread was divine, our server was lovely. Quiet, cozy, phenomenal service and outstanding meal. Putting it on my absolute must do list in Vail. Go here. You will be happy you did. Oh and the cheesecake. Do that too!!!!
Outstanding food and service
We always have to go here on our trips to Vail every year. I have to recommend the scallops. Delicious. Everything on the menu is a good choice. I advise making reservations.
Lot of gluten free options. Like the fact they use locally grown food products. Our service was great!
Atrocious service and questionable food. We will eat there several times through the year and had taken some international guests last Monday. Waiter forgot to enter orders for appetizers and all main meals took an incredibly long time. The lamb chops were delivered cold and the cuts were C grade. Seemed like there was not a manager on duty with wait staff appearing like a bunch of ski bums using the restaurant job for spending money and a nice late night drink at the bar in the back (on the house??) rather than looking after customers. We were eventually the only table left in the dining room and still couldn't get our bill. This restaurant has been so dependable in the past but needs an audit by the owners ASAP.
Really nice restaurant near the creek in Vail Village.
We had some delicious fish and game.
A bit disappointed that the burger that is well reviewed here and elsewhere is not on the dinner menu.
Overall a good experience with a very helpful waiter
Without a doubt this was the most pleasurable dining experience that my wife and I have ever had. We have dined in many fine restaurants from Dallas, to Nashville, New York City, and most of the restaurants in the Vail Valley.
The food was excellent, the service superb, and the background noise quite low. In addition the scenery is superb.
Real good food and friendly staff Elk was delicious as a steak meat eater… Need to be there…High-quality food at a better price… Would highly recommend !!!
Best braised short ribs of my life! My husband had the elk and spoke highly of it. We celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary here and couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience.
Raiatouli and portabella dinner looked far better then it tasted in fact it was tasteless especially the zucchini which was full of water. The crab cake under “shareables” -was not shareable. It too, needed lots of sauce. We frequent this restaurant but it’s not maintaining its quality of yore.
Our table was next to a glass door that leaked a lot of cold air so we asked to change and were put opposite the kitchen door. Hardly desirable. Service was perfunctory and brusque. Meal was mediocre especially the mushy, overly fried potatoes and sparse vegetable. What really ruined the experience was being overcharged nearly $8. I found this overcharge on my credit card statement. My credit card company refunded me the amount because it was more cost effective for the company. I decided to e-mail the manager of Up the Creek who only said he was sorry and it was a honest mistake i.e., the server confused my tip with some other table (???); my tip and total was clearly written but note well the manage stated the other table's tip was a larger amount. In my many years of going to restaurants, this has never happened before to me. Manager ended our e-mail communication when I asked for a refund, stating that the restaurant not my credit card company should be absorbing this loss to me for Up the Creek's server's "mistake." Never will go back to here when we return to Vail.
