Great food and service, filled up quickly and became a little loud, but in a fun way!
The food was delicious. The service was terrible. We were seated in a corner and we had to flag down other waiters and managers to order our entrees, get water refills and get the bill.
Love Union Street, but on this night it was very busy and patience was required. I will return!
Food was overpriced and menu selection and prices did not fit the pub-like atmosphere. Service was slow.
Great place for a beer, but that is it. Food was mediocre at best. Price for it was way too high. Carb bisque was cold with barely any crab. Steak was dry and bland. Duck mac and cheese bland and no cheesiness. Wouldn't eat here again.
I loved the place and the food.was really good. I had the market fresh pick and it was very good and very freshly made.
Not many vegetarian options. The beet salad I had through was great.
Real nice place and a great local! Everyone on the staff was terrific!
Really good upscale pub fare... not too crowded in the dining area.
Relaxed atmosphere with excellent service and food. Always my “go-to” with guests in town.
We enjoyed a nice dinner on a Saturday night. I don't eat oysters but my husband and son said they were not the best they've had and the cocktail sauce tasted like ketchup. I enjoyed the GF Trout and Green Beans and my son enjoyed the Chopped Grilled Chicken Salad. My husband ordered the Gumbo which looked a little soupy but he said it was pretty good. The atmosphere was nice in the left side of the restaurant where we sat.
Best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time. Excellent appetizers and a decent Guinness pour.
We had 4 meals and 3 out of the 4 had major issues (cold eggs, cold potatoes, missing cheese, no fries, and half a sandwich was missing). We asked the waiter about the half sandwich and whether it was supposed to have fries and he said it’s only supposed to be a half sandwich with no fries and was condescending about it. He clearly didn’t want to be bothered hearing about the many issues we had. We also asked for another round of drinks and he never came back with them. The manager Portia was lovely and tried to fix all the meals and was the only positive aspect of the dining experience. We have had awesome meals here before, so hopefully it was just a random bad experience, but we won’t be in a rush to go back.
Was Friday night and pretty quiet and we just got a crabcake sandwich which was OK but not the best and another person got a huge piece of card and fries and he love that somebody else got the beef and cheese sandwich and was very happy. The service was nice and not obtrusive and the price was relative Lee
On this occasion, we had the "Whole Trout" entree, and the Fish & Chips. The manager indicated the Whole Trout was a new item. It was very tasty (hazelnut gremolata stuffing). The portion was not as large as expected, but adequate. The Fish & Chips was outstanding. It was a generous portion of fried haddock with golden brown light batter coating. The accompanying fries were crisp and equally satisfying. This was an improvement over the previous version of this entree. We sat in the bar area which was (understandably) very noisy and we needed to talk in a loud voice.
Only the brunch menu was available, however we want the grilled chicken sandwich that is on the lunch menu. The waiter offered to check with the kitchen, who was able to accommodate our request. That was much appreciated.
They said I didn’t have a reservation but seated us when I showed open table email confirmation
1st visit. Valentines dinner with my wife. Portia was our server and did an awesome job.
Will certainly be back again
we were able to make a reservation on Valentine’s Day for a party eight at the last minute. The downstairs dining room was packed but we had the second floor pretty much to ourselves. The menu had a nice diverse selection with everything you would expect and a few surprises. The fish and chips were spot on with a huge portion of haddock. A couple of us went for the perogies and kielbasa, would definitely recommend!
Everything was damn near perfect
Very nice restaurant with excellent food and service. There are two bars and a regular sit down area as well. The one bar is a whiskey bar with a very extensive list. The cheesecake was delicious and would highly recommend getting it if you stop by. Some of the best I've had in a long time. Highly recommend going here for a meal or a drink though you won't be disappointed.
First time having brunch and was a very nice experience with a window table on Union Street. Was not crowded on Saturday morning, so quiet with fine attention by waiters and manager. Nice choices on the menu, and as a pancake lover, was most pleased with the pecan cakes with maple syrup. Interesting if you just want bacon, eggs and toast/bread, they are all only as sides which can be ordered. Look forward to returning. And living in old town Alexandria, it's nice to be able to say that the owner of the restaurant is very generous in giving back to the community by hosting events for non-profits.
Good meal just a little off the beaten path of King St. in Old Town. Nice old style wood room. The food was good - I had the prime rib special which was a good size portion and wound up being a pretty good size after cutting away all the fat, and she had the whole trout which she enjoyed. We were allowed to substitute the sides for both the dishes (which were originally both potato side dishes) to brussels sprouts and mac & cheese so that was good. And the chocolate cheese cake with cherries on the side was excellent and I'm not a big cheesecake fan. The waiter was very helpful if not overly knowledgeable about the dishes.
Amazing food with great portions! We sat next to an older couple who talked really loud, but once we got our drinks and food... we didn't care anymore. The food was delicious and we were impressed by the portions.
The ambiance and service we're very good. We have always been seated upstairs, but enjoyed being on the main level. We were there with friends to enjoy a meal before going to The Little Theatre of Alexandria. It was restaurant week, so we expected that the food would be very good. The food was disappointing. EX: the veal was very tough and undercooked; the trout was overcooked and dry. We would have done better to have ordered off the regular menu.
Great atmosphere, music, and food.
Food was good, lacking that extra touch. Meat was a little bland and at $30 a main would expect better crust on duck or the prime rib. The twice baked potatoes was the highlight of the meal.
Food overpriced and taste was just ok. The waiter was very nice.
Union Street has an extensive selection of tap beers and good basic food. I usually get the oysters on the half shell, hamburgers, and wings. Combined with a beer or two, they make for a good simple meal. This is not a place I would go to celebrate a significant anniversary, but it is a good place to meet friends for a tasty meal.
Family get together with guests who are picky eaters and do not like loud noise. This was a perfect restaurant for our group!
We met a friend for lunch at 1:00P and the restaurant was not full so we had a nice quiet lunch and were able to catch up without a lot of background noise. Service was great and food was excellent!
Date night on a Wednesday night to Old Town so we could walk around and enjoy the holiday decorations. The service was great and the food was very good. I had fish and chips and a red pepper bisque. My fiance tried the pimiento cheese and the gumbo. Everything was delicious and the choices are what you would expect of a pub.
Extremely limited menu. No vegetarian options other than side salad. Chef offered to make one meal vegetarian, but it tasted like it was cooked with a pork product. Overall there are better places for food. Drinks are good, but skip the the kitchen.
Great service. Waiter was very attentive. Fast on requests. Greeted by manager and inquired about service.
Really enjoyed eating a historical building. Service was good and the menu had a nice variety.
We hadn’t been to Union Street in while but were very pleased with the great food and outstanding service. Don’t hesitate to drop in for food or drinks.
Upscale pub food was much more imaginative than I expected. Still the favorites like crab cake sandwiches but the trout with hazelnut gremolata was amazing. The cauliflower was a favorite with our group also.
Had a great Post Marine Corp Marathon celebration meal. Plenty of other folks celebrating their runs!
We went for brunch on a Sunday with a group of 8. We made a reservation in advance. When we arrived we were seated quickly in a room to the side of the restaurant, there were two small parties seated in the room with us. The waiter was quickly overwhelmed. It took almost an hour before he took our order and overall we were there for three hours. Food was good but arrived cold and you could not get the waiters attention in order to fix the problem, we also waited an hour for our food after ordering so by this time we were starving. Great deal on $3 mimosas and bloody mary's. Great place for groups. Staff was overwhelmed and our table should have had two waiters or atleast someone helping out, cannot complain other than that.
Good meal, small portions, okay service, very, very loud "bourbon bar" without large ice cubes---very disappointing. Otherwise price was right and main bar is manned by pros (such as Brad).
