Everything was damn near perfect
Very nice restaurant with excellent food and service. There are two bars and a regular sit down area as well. The one bar is a whiskey bar with a very extensive list. The cheesecake was delicious and would highly recommend getting it if you stop by. Some of the best I've had in a long time. Highly recommend going here for a meal or a drink though you won't be disappointed.
Good meal just a little off the beaten path of King St. in Old Town. Nice old style wood room. The food was good - I had the prime rib special which was a good size portion and wound up being a pretty good size after cutting away all the fat, and she had the whole trout which she enjoyed. We were allowed to substitute the sides for both the dishes (which were originally both potato side dishes) to brussels sprouts and mac & cheese so that was good. And the chocolate cheese cake with cherries on the side was excellent and I'm not a big cheesecake fan. The waiter was very helpful if not overly knowledgeable about the dishes.
Amazing food with great portions! We sat next to an older couple who talked really loud, but once we got our drinks and food... we didn't care anymore. The food was delicious and we were impressed by the portions.
The ambiance and service we're very good. We have always been seated upstairs, but enjoyed being on the main level. We were there with friends to enjoy a meal before going to The Little Theatre of Alexandria. It was restaurant week, so we expected that the food would be very good. The food was disappointing. EX: the veal was very tough and undercooked; the trout was overcooked and dry. We would have done better to have ordered off the regular menu.
Great atmosphere, music, and food.
Food was good, lacking that extra touch. Meat was a little bland and at $30 a main would expect better crust on duck or the prime rib. The twice baked potatoes was the highlight of the meal.
Food overpriced and taste was just ok. The waiter was very nice.
Union Street has an extensive selection of tap beers and good basic food. I usually get the oysters on the half shell, hamburgers, and wings. Combined with a beer or two, they make for a good simple meal. This is not a place I would go to celebrate a significant anniversary, but it is a good place to meet friends for a tasty meal.
Family get together with guests who are picky eaters and do not like loud noise. This was a perfect restaurant for our group!
We met a friend for lunch at 1:00P and the restaurant was not full so we had a nice quiet lunch and were able to catch up without a lot of background noise. Service was great and food was excellent!
Date night on a Wednesday night to Old Town so we could walk around and enjoy the holiday decorations. The service was great and the food was very good. I had fish and chips and a red pepper bisque. My fiance tried the pimiento cheese and the gumbo. Everything was delicious and the choices are what you would expect of a pub.
Extremely limited menu. No vegetarian options other than side salad. Chef offered to make one meal vegetarian, but it tasted like it was cooked with a pork product. Overall there are better places for food. Drinks are good, but skip the the kitchen.
Great service. Waiter was very attentive. Fast on requests. Greeted by manager and inquired about service.
Really enjoyed eating a historical building. Service was good and the menu had a nice variety.
We hadn’t been to Union Street in while but were very pleased with the great food and outstanding service. Don’t hesitate to drop in for food or drinks.
Upscale pub food was much more imaginative than I expected. Still the favorites like crab cake sandwiches but the trout with hazelnut gremolata was amazing. The cauliflower was a favorite with our group also.
Had a great Post Marine Corp Marathon celebration meal. Plenty of other folks celebrating their runs!
We went for brunch on a Sunday with a group of 8. We made a reservation in advance. When we arrived we were seated quickly in a room to the side of the restaurant, there were two small parties seated in the room with us. The waiter was quickly overwhelmed. It took almost an hour before he took our order and overall we were there for three hours. Food was good but arrived cold and you could not get the waiters attention in order to fix the problem, we also waited an hour for our food after ordering so by this time we were starving. Great deal on $3 mimosas and bloody mary's. Great place for groups. Staff was overwhelmed and our table should have had two waiters or atleast someone helping out, cannot complain other than that.
Good meal, small portions, okay service, very, very loud "bourbon bar" without large ice cubes---very disappointing. Otherwise price was right and main bar is manned by pros (such as Brad).
Went for date night away from kids. Had a good time but food and drinks were overpriced. Wife couldn’t eat her steak (not inedible but sauce wasn’t what she was expecting). The waiter noticed she didn’t like it and the manager offered free drinks. We declined but nice touch. Not a bad spot if you like the food and are willing to pay.
We ordered 1 strip steak, 2 hanger steaks and 1 lamb steak, all cooked to different temperatures. Server brought 4 meals to table, but did not speak English and could not tell us which steak was which, then left the meals with us to go get someone else who could make sure each person got the steak they ordered . Waitress returned to the table almost 10 minutes later and re-shuffled the meals so each person had the right plate, then had the server go back to the kitchen to get our sides. Only brought 3 of the 4 sides, then manager had to re-enter the order for 4th side and brought it as we finished our entrees. The waitress was great up until we placed our order, but only returned to re-shuffle our plates, then never returned again. Manager finally took over to refill waters, etc. Nice place, not very busy, but service was lacking.
Enjoyed historic building, lots of brick, location near waterfront, friendly service, tasty crabcakes, broad array of beer and whiskey.
Met a business associate for dinner. The setting was perfect and having a reservation on a Friday evening was key. Parking as always in Old Town was an adventure, a pay lot was very close by. The food was excellent and the price was more than reasonable for Old Town.
In Alexandria for the weekend. Chose the Union Street Public House as a casual place for dinner on a rainy Saturday night. Mac and cheese was bland. Hamburgers and crab cakes were ok. Fries were the best part of dinner. Waiter was not very attentive. He brought he bill after we finished our entrees without asking if we wanted anything else (coffee, tea, dessert).
This is an ok place to dine but nothing great - probably better for drinking at the bar.
Our family was able to make a last minute reservation for July 4th. It was the perfect location - great food and setting for the occasion. Some of us arrived a little later than the others and drink orders were quite delayed, but other than that, no issues. I'd definitely recommend USPH to others and come back again!!
Union Street's menu has shrunk over the years and gotten notably more expensive. Their Happy Hour is still worth going to for the usually-tasty oysters and the relatively large selection of draft beers. Unless you like things salty, ask them to go easy on the salt for french fries and add any yourself. Highlights are the oysters, the wings, and the beer.
The restaurant did an outstanding job of supporting all of our requests and needs for a quiet place to visit with friends. Food was very good and service attendative.
Great for a casual dinner for my husband and I. The high top bar area would have been our choice but, he was on crutches and we need extra room and a regular table and chairs. The hostess and waiter were excellent. My rigatoni and my husband's burger was delicious.
Daughter’s College Graduation dinner
Good food. Service was slow. You would ask a worker for something they would say yes but never come back.
Marc “Sage” was a wonderful server: great personality and punctual service. The food was well prepared, pork, burger and salmon
Mothers Day brunch - staff was very accommodating of party arriving over 15 minutes, and of our active 2 year old grandson. Food was delicious, and Mimosas were only $3.00!
Enjoyed lunch, burger and beer special. Good food, good beer, good service. Nice authentic atmosphere. Would definitely come back and recommend to others.
Service was poor, very slow, under-staffed. Felt bad for waiter, who had several tables with little help from Manager. We left after waiting a very long time for our drinks and order to be taken. We offered to pay for our wine and appetizer. We will never return. Atmosphere, energy in room, and service was not conducive to a good experience.
The chicken in my salad was completely raw I was absolutely disgusted and the waiter actively avoided me after I told him. So grossed out by this place I would recommend never dining there there are far better options in Alexandria.
At first we were seated in the bar and with an 86-year-old as part of our party it would’ve been awful for her to try to hear us or even speak to each other because of the noise level. I asked to move elsewhere and was accommodated immediately. Our server was phenomenal and I wish I could remember his name but he was great as was the food. We will definitely go back
Great food but service was poor. Server blamed that the restaurant got slammed and accepted no responsibility for missing entrees, delay on drinks or excessive wait to get out bill.
Took awhile to be seated, even with reservation. Food was fine, nothing too special. Service was fine as well.
I always try to visit Union Street Public House when I'm in the DC area. It is a great atmosphere in Old Town Alexandria, with fantastic food a stellar drink selection.
