This is our second visit to the restaurant. Unlike pour first visit, we had a marvelous experience. However, this time around the service were poor. Our waiter was not attentive and was not pleasant. Obviously we have no intention to return or recommend to our friends.

Really disappointed with the food. Ordered 3 courses and the food was either greasy, clunky or unimaginative. Service was mediocre and the temperature by our area was freezing.

Excellent wine list and the food was absolutely delicious. All of the staff really went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and had everthing we needed. Excellent bread and spread selection as well!

It will be sad to see this 30-year institution leave Union Square, but I'm confident they will excel when they open in their new, nearby, location in the spring.
From the excellent bread with dukkah and lemony olives, the crisp fritto misto, creamy polenta, and Amish chicken, to the succulent pork chop, and an expert wine recommendation, our meal was a pleasure. The staff were sympathetic to my observation that I'd wanted the chop less cooked, and graciously redid it without my really asking.
They were also gracious in accommodating my companion's service dog and in wrapping up the leftover—for me, not the dog!

Had a amazing time surprising my girlfriend brittaney cambell for her birthday here not minding to spend a few extra bucks but unfortunately duringg dessert a spider crawled on her side of the table making her tear up because she is absolutely terrfied of them. So it kind of ruined the night.

We had tagliarini with white truffle and before that a variation of the slow poached egg with an addition of truffle as well. Both superb! The service as usual efficient, friendly and cordial . The wine list is excellent with a wide choice from very expensive to affordable wines; our experience with affordable wines is very satisfactory. USC atmosphere is special, it cheeres you up and makes you want to return. We look forward to the opening at the new location!

First time back in a number of years. Wanted to get one last dinner in before they close. Will be interested in seeing how the new place on 19th and Park will compare.

My spouse and I have been coming to Union Square Cafe on our many New York City visits since 1992 and have never been dissappointed. We love the warmness of the 16th street space along with the great service and wonderful luncheon fare. This visit we shared the Calamari (one of the best calamari renditions I've experienced and our main courses were wonderful.

It is sad that it will be our last meal at this great location and I hope the next rendition of Union Square Cafe will capture the 16th Street ambience.

We enjoyed a delicious dinner in a very comfortable atmosphere. It is a pleasure to have great, honest service, not be jammed in or rushed, and able to enjoy really great food and wine. It was great to be able to dine in the original one last time. We are looking forward to visiting again in Union Square Cafe's new home.

I could have chosen all the options for "What would recommend this restaurant for?" Since first discovering Union Square Cafe many years ago, it's my "go-to" place for good food, good times and good service. The beef carpaccio melted in my mouth and my guest thoroughly enjoyed the Union Square burger cooked perfectly to her liking -- medium rare -- without the bun. The team at Union Square knows how to create a memorable experience for its guests -- which is why I keep coming back for more. I'm so glad it's staying in my neighborhood. I'll be back!

our reservation was for 1.30pm we waited until 2 pm before being seated. My husband ordered the burger and he said it was one of the best he's had. I had the lamb chops ordered medium rare, they came medium well but were replaced very quickly with the right temperature. Appetizers and drinks were yummy. I will not rush back, the wait when you have a reservation is just annoying and I am sure that happens a lot in this place specially now that the word is out they are closing.......

Not the place if you want the latest food fad or pretension. Go for very good to excellent food, impeccable unfussy service, and - for now at least - a warm setting. I just hope it doesn't suffer with the upcoming move.

Dinner with a good friend made into a memorable occasion seated upstairs with a view of a mural like swirling clouds of coloured figures. The flavours swirling around in the mouth of the loveliest of foods and grandest of wines. The conversation facilitated by such a place stirs a lasting happiness.

a waitstaff was frequently present but not intrusive, asking mid mouth -full of divine food (or in the midst of an intense conversation)
"Is everything all right?"

The usual thump thump noise of horrible music, prevalent at most NYC restaurants allowed us to actually enjoy one another's company! The food was heavenly!

Union Square Cafe has always been one of our favorite restaurants. We enjoyed a delicious Sunday brunch with another couple, and the food, service and ambience were excellent! We are sorry that they will be moving to a new location this spring, and we hope that the always wonderful dining experience will not change.

Really good food for a fair price. Friendly reception and table service, Amazing lobster risotto and a lovely Sancerre wine. The prices are reasonable, especially for New York City standards. A last minute extra person was no problem at all! Recommended.

We came before time (8:30), and asked for downstairs (I have a cane). We had a drink at the bar. They weren't ready. At 8:45, my husband got up to see what's what...he was told I hadn't said on the form that I wanted downstairs. From now on, I will, but not there. The food is okay. My rare lamb chops came more to medium, but at that hour, I didn't want to wait. With such skinny lamb chops, it takes 2 seconds to do rare. Glad we were with good friends for conversation and my husband's good wine. I'm not a New Yorker, just a part-timer, and they were on my list. Nice counts for a lot.

Union Square is by now one of the most consistently great restaurants in New York. The room is lively, unpretentious, the food appealing & original and the staff among the best trained. From the kitchen to the front, they know what hospitality is here.

Although the restaurant was accommodating in seating us before our scheduled reservation time (we arrived 10 minutes early), the level of service the rest of the night was sub-par to say the least. A full hour elapsed between the time we ordered drinks and when our appetizers arrived to the table. Do not come here if you have any subsequent plans, since expedient and attentive service is not a priority to the waitstaff.

I started coming to Union Square Cafe in the 80's when it's style of cooking was still quite new. We came because of their use fresh, sometimes unusual ingredients and wonderful sophisticated flavors, inspired by Italian and French cuisine.I'm delighted that after all these years the standard is just as high, with service to match.

My visit to NYC had to include a trip to Danny Meyer's Union Square.....and this is because I have been so enthralled with his book, "Setting the Table". I share this book with all my new hires that come into our small six store business as leaders. I felt that I was right in the midst of his working when I was reading his book. From making small notes about guests so that he could use it at their next visit to making every small detail a memorable visit.

We were served by several team members and it was more of a rushed through process than a dining experience.

I won't share the book anymore and not on my list to visit again on my next NYC trip.

Regretfully,
Vicki Sharer

We love this restaurant. We went to celebrate its 30 years. It has consistency -I have been ordering the Heirloom tomatoes salad for years- and you always get the same delicious dish. The Seasonal dishes are delicious, the service is impeccable and the setting is perfect. I cannot wait to see the new location!
