Union Social Eatery - Sheppard Ratings and Reviews
I have never reviewed a restaurant before, but I took a blind date here, and the service was outstanding, they couldn't do enough. There was a misunderstanding with my salad, but they changed it without hesitation. I don't think it was there fault, just crossed signals. I was very pleasantly surprised, haven't had service like that anywhere in Toronto, 2 big thumbs up
Nice location near Yonge and Sheppard, good amount of seating. Seating on different levels (a few steps between each level). The first table we were seated at was unusually warm, like we were sitting under a heat lamp, so we asked to be moved. The second was slightly warmer than normal as well, but we got used to it. Service was very good. Unfortunately they were out of their special chicken sandwich, but the burger and chilli fries were very good.
We had a good experience overall. Service was quite friendly all around. They asked if this was our first time there - it was - and we received the standard welcome greeting spiel. After we placed our order, the manager showed up with a complimentary 1/2 appetizer to try for our first visit there.
No complaints on the food - it was great and served in a timely manner. The restaurant appeared clean. Portions were good, and in our case it was ~$35 for 2 people before tip. The one down side for me was that the lighting was a little dark for my tastes. For 1pm on a sunny day, at street level, it kind of felt like we were walking into a basement. Fortunately, they sat us by the window - problem solved.
We'd definitely go there again, and I think you should give this place a try if you haven't already.
Hope that helps :)
Service was great! We were seated next to the fireplace ( my fault i asked for that) but it was far too warm. Our server was pleased to change our seats. Also music way too loud and we couldn't talk . Again our server had the music turned down a bit ( not enough but it helped) might i suggest that when someone orders a hamburger etc. You ask how he/ she wants it done. They all come well- done even though some people ( like me!) prefer it rare. Nice atmosphere, especially on a cold, windy night.
It was our first time at Union Social Eatery, I found the restaurant online. There were a lot of options on the menu - including non- meat items. The candy salad was so good, next time I will be ordering the dinner sized portion. Staff were friendly and fast. Food was super tasty.
There was a 13 yr olds party in the next area, so it was a bit loud while we were there. But we still enjoyed our dinner and will definitely go back.
Best friend and I went for dinner at around 7:00 on a Friday night on the recommendation of a friend who goes there for breakfast. Not sure what the hype is about, maybe the brunch crowd and food are better. Certainly not a bad place, but average at best. Not much style to the place, and low ceilings and large crowds cause a lot of the noise to echo, we were yelling over our meals to hear each other, and we were seated on the edge of the room. Wouldn't go back, mostly not my cup of tea and not sure what the draw is, parking is also a disaster in the area. But if you're curious about their brunch, might be worth trying.
This is a casual eatery perhaps aimed at a younger crowd. The host and waiter were attentive and helpful. The ambience for us was a bit of a miss, quite dark and music was fairly loud. The food was good. We had nachos, spinach salad and a noodle dish. All were good for a casual eatery and reasonably priced. I would recommend trying Union Social and seeing how it fits your criteria.
The service was very good. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive, and both the manager and general manager dropped by to check in on us.
I don't like TVs in restaurants, and Union Social had a few. Listed as a "Gastropub" online, it might better be described as a sports bar.
Awesome location! My friends and I were looking for a place to meet in North Toronto and were pleasantly surprised with the great atmosphere and service we received. It was a special treat when we were brought a complimentary chips and dip platter because it was our first time. Our server was a gem, the Pimms were tasty and we have a great time! Definitely recommend this place!
I have fish & chips almost everytime I had lunch or dinner at this Union Social and was amazing. This time was very disappointed, the batter was not cooked enough and the inside was very soggy, kind of gross. My friend used to order the Chicken Penang noodle bowl and loved it very much, again, this time she did not like it and found it was cooked differently, very thick and gluey. Disappointed!!! Hope the chef who used to make all these good food was on holiday and back soon. For sure will try again, willing to give the restaurant the second chance.
The Union Social Eatery had a beautiful patio that caught our attention. Unlike other patios, this one is not crowded so you are definitely able to find a seat. Moreover, the selection of food and drinks that were offered ensures that everyone would be able to enjoy a meal they liked. It's a must go destination if you're in Toronto.
The food and drink options were mediocre, for the price it was not worth the value. The rooftop patio could use some improvements, as there were many free tables, but we were told they were not available (even though reservations had been made online and confirmed on the phone). The service was good, given how busy it was on a Friday evening.
Nice roof patio with DJ/music so fairly lively summer feel. Good portion sizes and tasty too. we had a veggie burger and a fish burger with generous helping of fries each plus a cocktail and couple of glasses of wine. Friendly waitress. Good place for a first evening in the area.
