UNION Rooftop Ratings and Reviews
Had dinner there on a Friday night for my daughter's bday celebration. Had calamari, wings and poutine as appetizers. Some of the entrees amongst our group was chicken pasta, veggie burger, clam chowder, beef short ribs. Everything was good with the exception of our seabass. The sauce that it sat in was way too salty. We had to literally squeeze the sauce from the fish in order to eat it. The fish itself was very fresh and cooked nicely so it was too bad the sauce didn't do it justice. We didn't say anything though to waitress as we were very full. All in all we would definitely go back again. Fun evening.
We have visited the Union Rooftop for dinner and drinks on several occasions and it continues to be a fun spot for both in downtown Minneapolis. The atmosphere and ambiance is great on the rooftop, as are the views of the city. It does get busy on special occasions and Friday and Saturday night, which can make for a cozy dining experience. The views and atmosphere are worth the close quarters.
The food is generally very good and is priced well for a prominent location on Hennepin Ave. The service is good and the wine menu is comprehensive. The fish and chips and chicken cordon bleu are tested and true.
Went for brunch with 2 friends. I had the hash & steak w/ blue cheese, which was just ok. The steak was small and blue cheese overpowering. The bottomless mimosas were basically juice. It's not worth even getting. If I could do it over I'd just buy a bottle of champagne and mix it myself OR just order a drink. However, there was a live DJ and sun streaming in from the glass dome. So basically, the setting (music, ambiance, vibe) is great but the food & drink leave much to be desired.
We were there the night before the Super Bowl, so things were hopping. Very busy and crowded, but still a great evening and fun experience. The rooftop was naturally enclosed due to the winter weather, but it was still good ambiance and bet it's really great in the milder seasons. Awesome service, really good food, and even some celebrity sightings. We'd go again.
Horrid is the word I would use. We booked a reservation in November for a Friday super bowl weekend dinner. The restaurant called us to confirm in early December. One problem, upon arrival they had rented out the restaurant and never let us know, real nice. The manager tried to tell us that it wasn’t possible we could have made a reservation as they had been closed for over a month even though I showed him the Open Table reservation on my phone. He recommended going to one of the nearby restaurants to eat, any guess how long a wait was on a Super Bowl Friday. Guaranteed as a local they won’t see any of my future business.
Ate dinner here prior to taking in some Super Bowl events. Service was a little slow as several of the beers that we ordered were not operational. Keg issues I guess. Once we placed our order the food came quickly. I enjoyed my meal but my portion was not large enough to satisfy me for dinner. Seem more like a lunch portion.
I definitely liked the view and the ambience of the place. It is rooftop seating with an enclosed dome with a Decent view of the Minneapolis skyline. Wicker chairs but very comfortable. Staff was friendly.
We had a great time celebrating our son's 25th birthday and also his little brother's 19th. The sparkler candle was a great touch and they both felt special. We loved he glass all around withe the views of the city on Hennepin. Food was fabulous and our server was so caring and helpful!
This was a surprising 4 stars for me! I had been here before and recently noticed they changed the menu. In the past, the menu was fairly expensive and the food wasn't great. Not a place you would want to go before a show. Since the menu changed we decided to give it a try before the Brave New Workshop show. I was actually VERY impressed.
I had the Tuna Poke and Beet Salad and both were seasoned well and done perfectly. Beets can be undercooked sometimes and these were just right. I will be coming here more often when going to shows in the area.
Food (filet), wine & service were all excellent. We were there on a Wednesday evening before a show.
Was seated next to windows where it was too cold to sit to be totally comfortable during -0 temps. Table space was tiny. Restaurant didn't appear to be clean, needs a freshening up.
I went to Union Rooftop for my birthday and had an awesome experience! Delicious food for a reasonable price and very fast and friendly service. Love the skyline views! Free birthday dessert was also a plus! Highly recommend the truffle fries as an appetizer - best ever!
My boyfriend and I came here for dinner before going to see a show at the Orpheum. The atmosphere was really relaxed and enjoyable, and we loved being able to look out across the street and see the Minneapolis skyline. The food was good and came quickly. We'd recommend!
Can we be honest? This restaurant is terrible and you should avoid it. Let me tell you what I ordered. I ordered the calamari as a starter. The calamari comes with fried peppers. That sounds great, but it was overwhelming or they were running out of calamari, because about 3/4 of the plate was fried peppers and not calamari, but we ordered calamari. Total joke. My date ordered the Steak Frites. Seems like a safe choice. The waiter told us it would be timed appropriately to come out after the appetizer. It came out cold. COLD! It was steak frites. How do you mess that up? They did. It was terrible. Do not go here. Repeat. Do not go here.
I was recommended to go here for my husband's birthday. The venue was so cool and the food was fantastic! The only things that could have been slightly better: 1. making sure wait staff knows of any special notes in reservation as she did not know it was my husband's birthday until I told her. 2. The gluten free notations on the menu were done by hand. It seemed a little "cheap" but it didn't bother me. Just surprised there wasn't a notation on some of the food already to alter for gluten free. 3. The waitress knew I couldn't eat gluten but didn't ask if the appetizer (which was notated to be altered to be GF on menu ) should be GF so I could only eat part of it. The attention to detail on things like this, really makes a difference.
Either way, the place was great. Service was fast! It was a "hopping" place with a holiday party going on so it was louder than I expected but not too bad. Great place for a birthday... only about 6 other people celebrating their birthdays there too. :)
The citrus suave used for the salmon was so yummy, I need that recipe for my home life😘 and for desert I would recommend the apple pie ala mode, there is not enough great things I can say about desert. The vanilla bean ice cream was so delicious and the mini apple pies were thee best I've ever had, even better then my mom's apple pies😁😁😁.
