UNION Rooftop Ratings and Reviews
I was recommended to go here for my husband's birthday. The venue was so cool and the food was fantastic! The only things that could have been slightly better: 1. making sure wait staff knows of any special notes in reservation as she did not know it was my husband's birthday until I told her. 2. The gluten free notations on the menu were done by hand. It seemed a little "cheap" but it didn't bother me. Just surprised there wasn't a notation on some of the food already to alter for gluten free. 3. The waitress knew I couldn't eat gluten but didn't ask if the appetizer (which was notated to be altered to be GF on menu ) should be GF so I could only eat part of it. The attention to detail on things like this, really makes a difference.
Either way, the place was great. Service was fast! It was a "hopping" place with a holiday party going on so it was louder than I expected but not too bad. Great place for a birthday... only about 6 other people celebrating their birthdays there too. :)
The citrus suave used for the salmon was so yummy, I need that recipe for my home life😘 and for desert I would recommend the apple pie ala mode, there is not enough great things I can say about desert. The vanilla bean ice cream was so delicious and the mini apple pies were thee best I've ever had, even better then my mom's apple pies😁😁😁.
Great service from server and co-servers. Food was good. Mimosas were great. Coffee not hot. No vegetarian, dairy free options. Hostess was not friendly. Staff was not ready at 10:00 when the restaurant was supposed to be opened. They seemed to be scrambling to get set up. We even had to wait outside while the doors were being unlocked a few minutes after 10:00 am.
The food was really good but the service was mediocre. I told the lady I had made a reservation on OpenTable which she failed to check me in with. The server brought out one wrong entree but gave us chocolate cake to make up for the mistake. We went around 930 and it was a little loud and I had no idea it turned into a dance club later in the night.
When I made the reservation I clearly indicated in my reservation that this a birthday celebration and if I need to make a cake order a head of time. I had never been contacted by the restaurant, I had to call a day before to check for my request. When we we're there, I had to ask for the birthday cake when the waiter want to bring the bill. The service was kind of poor and unprofessional, unlike other top-rated restaurant. In fact I was disappointed by our experience in this restaurant. However, I act as a gentleman and left a good tip, but definitely will not come here or recommend this place to anyone.
I went to Union Rooftop for my birthday and my overall experience was not very impressive. When we first arrived there was a bartender who told us we were not able to use the elevator to get to the rooftop, which my family and I found out was a lie when we were leaving. Not sure why he felt it necessary to tell us to take the stairs. Additionally I made reservations for the rooftop specifically and when we arrived at the top I indicated my name and they did not have a table ready. I feel by making a reservation this should have been prepared in advance. Lastly I chose this restaurant to get a good view of Minneapolis however apperently the doors were broken and we told an employee would come open them for us however they never did. Overall if you’d like to feel like you’re eating breakfast at a bar at 2 o’clock in the afternoon this is the place for you!
Great overall experience! This is a great place to go if you are new to the city - definitely has a tourist-y vibe being the only year-round rooftop in Minneapolis. Food was good, appetizer portions could have been bigger for the price but main entrees were plenty filling. It is loud due to the construction of the space, but still a cool spot to visit!
Our service was excellent. We felt the wait staff was outstanding. However, very dissappointed with the value of our experience in regards to and atmosphere. The food was average. The dining room had poor lighting, the table too small, and no music, just a steady thumping noise. Overall, we did not feel the prices we paid equated to the meal and experience we expected.
Not the worst place to eat, but also far from the best. Ample seating, good service, but some items on the menu are not as described (the shrimp flatbread in particular had a very different description than what was actually served - completely different ingredients). Somewhat pricey. Cocktails were good, but basic drinks (such as gin and tonic) were way too expensive.
I had my bachelorette brunch here and we were a loud, slightly unruly group of ladies at 10:15 AM on a Sunday morning. The staff could not have been more attentive and enthusiastic, and we had a FANTASTIC time. Thank you for helping to make our bachelorette party so memorable and special!!!
Was celebrating my partner's birthday and had requested for a table on the glass/window side instead of the busy bar side and we got a cozy corner table with a beautiful view of the city. The rain did not matter because of the enclosed atrium on the rooftop. The place was loud and I thought the food was a bit overpriced but it was a good experience overall. Kudos to our wonderful server! We even got a celebratory chocolate cake on the house! A happy customer!
I made a reservation for the evening of 10/5. The reservation was made for the Rooftop for my girlfriends birthday. When we arrived we were notified that the Rooftop was closed for a private event. Reluctantly we sat In the bar and grill area where we were notified that the menu was not the same as the Rooftop. I ordered buffalo wings which were over cooked and the wings were broke into little pieces that I could barely take a bite without picking out little pieces of bone. My girlfriend ordered a margarita Flat bread pizza which had no tomatoes. The food came out promptly but we waited 20 minutes for our bill.
Why would a reservation be able to be made if the Rooftop was going to be closed? And if it was reserved after the reservation was made why would I not be notified?
We wanted to go for Sunday brunch. Because it was raining, the rooftop was closed. It was so loud you had to scream at each other to hear. Very disappointing and unnecessarily loud. I get it's a party atmosphere, but people should be able to talk. We went downstairs to eat, and it was ok but not what we wanted (no brunch menu).
We were in the cities for the night and were just trying to find something close to the hotel that was reasonably priced. It was a nice spot to eat but it was extremely loud with music, people and t.v.s being on. I could barely hear our waitress. I had the duck which was cooked well and tasted delicious. My husband had scallops, which I know are usually spend but it was 4 for $30 and they didn't have a consistent cook on them. He also got the lobster Mac n cheese which was amazing. Overall my experience there was just eh.
Great view of downtown while you eat. A unique glass rooftop that slides open for great summer days, and closed yet sunny for cold winter ones. Good variety on the menu. Our server was all smiles and energy. When there was a long delay with our dessert, she made it right. She understood the time frame for catching a show at the theater that night. It is a bit noisy so if you want to have a quiet conversation it is not the best thing.
I have probably been to The Union 10 times in the past five years, with each time getting better and better. I order something different on the menu each time, and have yet to choose a bad item. With the amazing view of Downtown Minneapolis, the great wait staff, and occasional life music, I can't imagine a better downtown restaurant.
Overall the food was amazing and the waiter/waitress did a great job with special requests. However, the friendliness was lacking quite a bit. Then towards the end the waitress stepped it up and asked for a positive review which was a little frustrating. Overall I would recommend it but it was also very hard for conversation as it was extremely loud.
