An exceptional experience. Great room, excellent food and service.
We loved the experience here and will return to try other menu items as the 3 course $79 special was amazing. The service is unmatched, the food delicious, and a historic building with a wonderful history also adds to the zest of the
Union League Cafe. Everyone must dine here to experience what a really superior restaurant is like.
Excellent food and service. Fabulous drinks and wine list.
We celebrated Renee's 60th birthday at ULC. As usual the staff was superbly accommodating and professional. The food and drinks are second to none in New Haven, and I should say the entire state of CT. The ambience is lovely! We have always enjoyed our experience at Union League and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a top notch dining experience. Tutti Bravi to the entire staff!
Dinner at Union League is always outstanding ... food, service, atmosphere
A quiet tuesday night near the fireplace was the occasion of our 50th anniversary of meeting in New Haven. We wanted a special, memorable meal with impeccable, warm service, and found just what we'd hoped. Wild boar osso bucco with scrumptious polenta and duck a l'orange--dishes we can't get where we live.
First came to UL in 2013 and continue to visit. Food is always amazing but we also love Dennis who we will request every time. Recently we brought 2 friends for a birthday and they loved it as well.
Salmon and scallop dish was amazing. Also there is a gluten free chocolate dessert that was just perfect.
This was a colleague’s work anniversary. The anniversary chocolates you provided were a wonderful surprise. Thank you!
As always an incredible experience!
Took clients to a holiday lunch. Excellent service, very good food & good for conversation. I hate loud restaurants - this was perfect
Excellent food and ambiance and was a nice compliment that the waiter knew the history of the location and the story behind the unique painted window scenes.
Great job, once again, folks. We have not been there for New Year's Eve for a few years, and was glad to see that Union League still is at the top of the list for special occasions. It was a little loud, as we were two tables over from the band. But the food and service more than overcame that inconvenience.
Phenomenal meal as always. Great service. Pairings made this NYE Dinner one to remember.
The "Frenchness" of the ambience and service was a pleasant surprise to the European visitors after the intial delight at the menu. Generally outstanding except for being rather noisy in the main dining room. Very attentive wait staff. Super wine list.
First time visitors will be returning.
The food is simply wonderful as is the service. Despite how elegant the restaurant is, the staff is very conscientious to never make you feel out of place, if you are not terribly knowledgeable. I highly recommend the pate en croute!
As usual a great experience
Such civility. It is just outstanding in every way. The food, servcie and atmosphere - it just delivers on all counts.
Always fabulous ambiance!! The Union League is a landmark restaurant in New Haven not to be missed.
Wonderful atmosphere, very attentive service. Can't say it was the best meal I've had out, however it's a special and lovely place. Will return
This is one of the finest fine dinning restaurants in the heart of New Haven next to Yale.
Owners and service is excellent and numerous French and other options to enjoy.
Lovely atmosphere and terrific for special occasions like anniversaries and holidays as well as business lunch or dinner..
Excellent spot. Service was perfect, tables amply spaced to have a private conversation but close enough to feel like a bistro/cafe. Lovely and lively room. Food was very good - could have been seasoned just a touch more but otherwise delicious. Definitely will return.
We had a lovely meal with great service. Everything was wonderful, and the restaurant was decorated so beautifully for Christmas.
Celebrating our son’s 25th bday. Food and service phenomenal! Dennis, our server, was on point and full of fun facts ! Thank you to all for making our evening a memorable one!
My husband and I had dinner here with my sister. Everything was top notch. The service and food was outstanding. Would definitely recommend this place for special occasions. It is also reasonably priced.
We loved it!! It was a surprise evening for me because I hadn’t felt well. So he proceeds to take me to a movie and then we end up at this lovely, upscale restaurant for dinner!! I was the only one concerned that I wasn’t dressed up! We were brought to an intimate, quiet spot where we had the most delicious cocktails made to order! Our waiter was so professional and gracious and warm!
I ordered the prixe fix meal and my husband had duck and escargot, so delicious. I had Dover sole and I’ll be dreaming of it for a long time!
We will return!
Had a lovely holiday lunch at Union League. Our server was great, super friendly and attentive but not hovering. Bloody Mary is the best around. Shared a salad and the croque monsieur which our server kindly had the kitchen split for us. We look forward to returning in the new year!
I have been to the Union League Cafe many times and my last visit was three days ago for lunch. Services was professional and friendly, Brett. My fiend is gluten intolerant and the waiter confirmed that her choice of food had no gluten plus he brought her gluten free bread. Food was great and our wine was really good. What else can I say. Oh, yes, the Christmas decorations were really nice. Cannot wait to go back again.
So historical, so perfect. Caviar, Superior service, Delicious food...can't wait to go back!
It was a wonderful holiday lunch. Enjoyed the ambiance and the food was great.
The restaurant is beautiful and the food is consistently good/outstanding and the service is excellent.
Union League did a wonderful job accommodating my dietary restrictions (gluten-free for celiac). Would highly recommend.
Wonderful birthday lunch. All the staff were kind and helpful.
My wife and I went to Union League Cafe to celebrate her birthday. We were delighted with the menu and overall quality of the experience! The evening began with an extensive and great cocktail. The kitchen split our first course into separate plates, which was a nice touch. If you are into wines, there are so many from which to choose. The menu features a lot of French wines, naturally. The main course was outstanding as well. I ordered the sea bass over spaghetti squash and brussell sprouts with a red wine reduction. She had the mushroom risotto. We switched plates halfway through because we both wanted to each plate. For dessert, the restaurant took it an extra step and spelled out "Happy Birthday" and my wife's name in chocolate with a candle on the side. That was a very classy and great touch to a wonderful evening.
Thank you for a wonderful dinner. The beef and the green beans were delicious.
We interacted with two people. The Maitre d , Mr Stewart, and the waiter.
Both were professional, calm and attentive without being solicitous.
We enjoyed out evening. Mr. Stewart made the suggestion that we return for lunch. This is something I have never considered. But having put the idea in my head, I plan to return in February and take a dear friend to the Union League for dinner.
We have patronized Union League Café for many years. Most recent visit was for our 50th anniversary which happened to be on a very busy December Saturday night. We had a good time but there were a number of shortcomings. Service was unacceptably slow, polite and competent but not very personal. Being busy is not an excuse: have more staff on hand. The duck confit was excellent but unimaginative. My lobster was seriously undercooked but it took so long to tell anyone I just brought that part home to cook a bit more myself for lunch next day. Despite mentioning on my Open Table reservation that this was our 50th, no one ever mentioned it. Ordinary table, nothing special, zero fuss. This place is very expensive, which is fine, but for the price I would expect a lot more. I think they have definitely slipped a notch, both in service and in the food. The noise is horrendous and conversation leaves one hoarse the next day from shouting. Being one of the most expensive places in New Haven does not mean this is one of the very best places. Nowadays there are many other options.
One of my all-time favorites. Wouldn't think of being in New Haven without a dinner at Union League Cafe.
Fantastic as always! The sole was OUTSTANDING! So delicious!
Enjoyed everything and will go back. We drove an hour to get there and will do it again!
The food was delicious. The service, merely fair (brought my drink after my appetizer and showed impatience when I asked about it. Bumped my friend's head with the tray. Somewhat brusque in attitude). The sad thing was the noise. We were three sets of friends getting together once a year and wanted to spend the time catching up. So, while the food was top notch, the experience was frustrating. I'd go either early or late to eat a delicious meal and possibly avoid the noise.
