The whole experience was outstanding. The maitre d' very gracious. Our waiter very solicitous. The drinks were generous and the food first rate. We shall return.

As usual, we enjoyed our meal at the ULC tremendously. Our server, Amy, was knowledgeable and very professional. There were a couple of tiny niggles -- one was that two tiny toast points were served with the woodcock/foie gras mousse when we could have easily used 6 each. There was a delay in getting us some additional toast points. The second was that my husband's lamb was a bit cold, which he said he had noticed when he had ordered lamb there before. Other than that, ULC is by far and away the absolute best restaurant in New Haven, but it is one of our favorites anywhere...including NYC.

1st time here that I was disappointed
fritters were over cooked.
too noisy as a wedding was going on over the dining room
so it made conversation impossible

Great French bistro and brasserie food in a charming dining room. Truly authentic compared to a number of other French restaurants we know in New England.

The wine pairings suggested with the restaurant week menu were outstanding, and the advice of the sommelier and staff are worth seeking out.

We came during restaurant week as my friend, from out of town, wanted to try it. I had been to Union League several times when I was working. We both enjoyed it very much.

A friend and I went as part of restaurant week. This restaurant has been on my bucket list for years and Restaurant week was the perfect opportunity, even with the extra $10 cost to enjoy the 3 course meal option, it was worth every cent. Every aspect was on point, the ambiance, the service, the fresh baked French bread x 3 servings, soup appetizer of New England Cod Chowder , the main course of Roast Monk Fish, and the sorbet with house made ice cream was all decadent. The coffee was served in a mini French press to top off a perfect dining experience.

Blown away is an understatement. I’ve been trying to eat at Union for awhile and I’m finally glad I did! It’s been a week and I’m still thinking about the Braised Short Rib and Potato’s Gratin. The staff was polite and diligent with filling my water which is always a plus in my book. I look forward to the next time I get to dine at this great restaurant.

My husband and I regularly dine out all over the entire state of Connecticut. We have been wanting to try Union League Cafe for some time and thought New Haven Restaurant Week to be the perfect opportunity. I am sorry to say we won't be returning. The overall reason is that the food quality, including flavors, matched with the price are just not worth it. They do make me mixed drink, though.

We went for restaurant week. Had venison tartine, short rib, and the chocolate plaisir.
The cocktails, however were a bit underwhelming. I would stick to strong scotch-based drinks and try their wine.

Everything was wonderful, I just wouldn't get desserts here. Also they have a wonderful wine selection... But they give a cheap restaurant arriving where I prefer a nice healthy Italian restaurant pout. Other than that it's pricey and smaller plates A le carte, but also worth every penny because of food quality and taste! I'd go back again and just go else where for dessert.

As usual the Union League Cafe exceeded our expectations. Even though it was restaurant week in New Haven and the restaurant was packed, we had a civilized glass of wine in the bar first and then were seated on time. Service was most attentive and not the slightest bit pretentious. Our meal was delicious and exquisitely prepared and presented. We look forward to returning soon.

Great food, service, atmosphere. Beautiful, elegant upscale dining. New Haven Restaurant Week menu similar price as pre-theater prix-fixe makes it very affordable.

Former Union League Club with strikingly excellent ambiance, excellent service, varied menu. However, we were not happy with our mussels. The sauce was bland and almost tasteless, We should have tried the grilled squid. Convenient location, but not if you plan to leave by taxi.

I had venison, it looked like can food. It was not worth it. The other menu items during the NH restaurant week were limited to 3 items. Desert was limited to 2 items. Couldn't even get a standard creme brulee desert.

Lunch at Union League Cafe is always a treat. The occasion was a Reatuarant Week lunch with my 87 y.o. mom . She luxuriated in her Croque Monsieur on a lovely, dense, chewy boule. The cheese layered on top turned in a crispy treat that oozed (sorry!) contentment. My Macaroni Charlotte was a gift on a plate when it arrived. Penne pasta sprinkled with bits of savory mushroom and chard was presented upright like a regiment of immaculate soldiers. The parmesan was just a bit wan, but the presentation and overall effect more than made up for it. Dessert continued on the white theme with a Vacherin offering unctuous chestnut ice cream and pear sorbet along with a beautifully-wound meringue confection to give some toothy crunch to the meal. Our waitress was perfect on timing and professional in all things.

Bravo encore!

My party arrived early and we were seated right away with a good seat and were addressed by our server in a timely manner. I asked for a cocktail which was terrible and the other member of my party felt the same with their drink. We asked the server about the drinks and the returned and did provide us with some details as to why the drinks tasted the way the did but I wasn’t pleased with the way the bartender makes his drinks so I didn’t even bother asking for another. The appetizers were good but I wasn’t not happy with the way the entree was prepared, I was quite disappointed. I had a braised short rib which was tough and had a lot of what felt like gristle and it was particularly bland for my taste. To finish things off we asked for our desert to go and the server put our desert on the floor in a bag, we asked if this was normal as was told it was. I feel that patrons she be asked if they are ok with their food being put on the floor. Overall I was not pleased with the place and would not dine here again. It appears to be a place for socialites to sit and have expensive wine not good food.

I always feel special when dining at Union League. The service is impecable. It is a lovely space with a roaring fire in the large hearth. Everything was lovely. I ate there twice during restaurant week and enjoyed everything. I feel I can only afford it during restaurant week so I really take advantage.

I brought a guest in for Restaurant Week, to take advantage of the reduced prices. While other restaurants seem to reduce the quality along with the price in that week, not so Union League. The quality of these dishes was the same as the rest of the menu. My venison terrine and monk fish were up to par. Thank you.

The food, staff and ambiance were all outstanding. The best restaurant in New Haven in my opinion and well worth the price. We were there during a very busy weekend during which they offered a Prix Fix menu. The options and pricing were a great value. It can get expensive, but it's well worth it.

What a treat! We make it a point to visit the Union League Cafe whenever we come to New Haven for the theater at the Long Wharf or Yale Prep, and every time we ask ourselves why we don't come in more often. Love the food, the ambiance, the service. Yes, it's a bit old-school French, but it's so comfortable, the wine and cocktail list is always interesting, and the food is creatively updated and impeccably prepared. Worth the visit every single time!

I loved this restaurant and I can't wait to back again. I went for lunch and I am looking forward to eating dinner there. The decor was beautiful and the ambiance was perfect. The food and service were outstanding. I was with my family and we have different food restrictions amongst us. Our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful navigating our way through the menu in order to accommodate our food challenges. Our waiter was also so thoughtful and surprised us by bringing warm, delicious gluten free bread to the table with a separate butter plate for those of us on a gluten free diet. Union League Cafe is a very special restaurant and I highly recommend it!

Have been here several times, it never disappoints. Renee, our waitstaff person was outstanding. Lovely personality, and most attentive.
Union League is one of the best restaurants in New Haven.
We were seated next to a window, so we had a lovely view of the Yale buildings.
Looking forward to our next visit, which will be soon.
