UNION Kitchen & Tap Ratings and Reviews
We had reservations and got seated in the very back tucked in corner..waited for service..no eye contact or anything for 10 minutes..had to go find someone..she was good..my shrimp and grits..which I have had before and enjoyed..was over cooked..and a tad cold..my husband fish stew was bland..we have been in the past and enjoyed it..maybe can’t handle Valentine’s Day...
Food is hit or miss. The wings are excellent, big beefy wings. Jambalaya was a disappointment. The waiter said it is the 2nd most ordered item. I don't know why, it was boring for me. The pastrami sandwich would have been good, except the meat was way too fatty for me. I could not enjoy that. It had excellent ingredients in the sandwich, which would have made it very good if only the meat were good. It is a nice spot if you are looking for a lively night. I think I will prefer it when the outside patio opens and it is a more peaceful place to eat.
The food in Encinitas is not nearly as good as the restaurant downtown. Disappointing experience overall compared to the downtown location. A little surprising that they do not offer flights of beer in a city where craft brews are a highlight. Waiter said the bar is too busy to be able to offer flights, but lots of busy restaurants in San Diego somehow manage to offer them. I would not go back to the Encinitas location, but will definitely visit the one downtown, which is outstanding.
I went with another couple to celebrate New Year’s Eve. The special menu was outstanding! We ordered the Porterhouse for two and had so much food! This was truly the best meal any of us had enjoyed in a long time. The truffle mac&cheese was delicious! Such a fantastic meal and the service was fantastic too!!
Went here for NYE dinner. It’s a great bar for watching football on Sundays so I was surprised at how appropriate is turned out to be for a NYE dinner. It was classy in the dining room separate from the bar area with a great ambiance and awesome food. This place has it all for any occasion.
We went on our 53rd wedding anniversary. We were so surprised very small dining room and not many really good tables for two
But we realized it was for the younger crowd. But though noisy the music was not as loud as one would expect
We will go again but for brunch or lunch
This was a gift from our son and wife. Was an interesting experience
No mention of our special ocassion
We went here for Thanksgiving dinner and they sat us is the private room to the right of the bar so it was very quiet and private.
Half the party had the Turkey dinner and the other half had other meals on the regular menu. Everyone loved their food and the dessert menu was top notch too.
Went to watch Thursday night football game- many TVs around the bar/restaurant. Staff was efficient and accommodating to all our special requests for food and drinks. A great neighborhood hang out for us to take business partners too. Loved the chicken wings!!!
Service was terrible , soup was cold and Burger ordered Medium, came out well done . The manager tells us medium is there well . There’s a first. Grits were dried out and hard more like a firm mashed pork , I was expecting creamy cheese grits , never again X that place
Came to Union for a Bachelorette Party Dinner. The food was incredible. We started with the Peach and Pecan Flatbread, fried Crawfish, Poutin and Poke. All was delicious and unique. The cocktails were also very good a refreshing. For dinner we had the Marys Chicken and Brussels Sprouts. The chicken was moist and the BBQ sauce was yummy! Great service and ambiance!
The food and the service are top-notch at this neighborhood eatery, and it's become deservedly popular as a result. There are occasional lapses -- for example, our waiter forgot that we had ordered beignets -- but brought some for us to take home and took them off the bill. That was nice. It's a little loud, and can be a little crowded, but it's become one of the two or three places in Encinitas that we know will be consistently good.
Loved it! Delicious upscale comfort food. Noisy, fun, great people watching. I had the GLUTEN FREE grits with sausage and shrimp. Some small shrimp, about five large ones. (Our dogs loved the tails we brought home!) Spicy and wonderful. My husband had the gumbo, similar with a different sauce/soup. The menu is not marked with GF items, but there are enough to have a good selection. Great selection of craft beers.
