Its always a pleasure to dine at Underhills. My go-to restaurant in Bronxville whenever I am entertaining out.
Restaurant looks fantastic after the renovation. Food still is fantastic. So is service.
Lovely waiter , Kevin . Salad & tacos were delicious, snapper rather
bland . Good cappuccino & dessert . Noise level a bit too much . Piano player/ singer who seemed very talented was almost drowned out .
I will return at a quieter time .
Always a wonderful experience dining there !
The atmosphere is a bit upscale, the food is delicious, the servers attentive, and the brunch on Saturday and Sunday works well for taking our college student out for a special meal.
The place is nice and the food is excellent. The service is subpar at best. They waited on another table that arrived after us. We didn’t get ant drink refills and basically felt ignored.
Food was excellent but the portion was small, especially for the price. Excellent service
I am in Bronxville frequently to visit a dear friend. On this occasion my companion and I made a reservation for 4pm at Underhills Crossing. When we arrived we stood at the hostess stand for a few minutes before any one acknowledged our presence, and after we were seated it took an additional 10 minutes before our next interaction with the staff. Bear in mind the restaurant was virtually empty with only two other diners and about three people at the bar. Finally the bartender asked if anyone had come to the table, when we responded no he let us know that the table was needed at 6:30 because it was reserved. We replied that we also had a reservation, and that we were sure that we would be done by 6:30 if we could get some menus and some service. The bar quickly filled up with "regulars". They all knew each other, as well as the management and wait staff. It is a small place with bad acoustics so the noise level was unbearable. There were greetings and hugs and kisses exchanged all around directly in front of the table where we were dining. A gentleman whom I surmised was the owner, was the biggest offender. He spoke with everyone else in the room even the table directly next to us, of course they were also "regulars". We felt as if we were in a private club and we were uninvited guests. We heard every personal exchange including the fact that he had recently painted the room a new color a "greyish soothing color" that matched the gold frames of the paintings. Never once did he approach our table to greet us, inquire about our food etc. As to the food it was hit or miss. My appetizer of rock shrimp and my heirloom tomato salad with Burrata cheese were excellent. Our main courses of salmon and snapper were below par, and my red snapper filet was old and hard. On departing the two hostesses were the only people who spoke to us and thanked us for coming. Avoid this place at all cost unless you are a member of the club. Not worth the price or the experience.
We are local and Underhills is one of our go to restaurants. The staff is amazing at all levels and the food is quite good. This was our first time trying the brunch and it was a very good value and delicious. Dinner and wine are not inexpensive but you do get high quality and a nice atmosphere.
We love your restaurant and have enjoyed consistently fine meals. again the food and service was spot on perfect. However the noise level is reaching a breaking point. We all could barely hear each other at the table without shouting. It became almost unbearable. As someone in the recording industry I would advise some fabric on the walls, all of which are unadorned anyway. The high ceilings just add to the noise, so there is nothing to soak up any of the sound. Please do something because your food and service deserve better. Please.
Food was delicious & wine selection was quite good, however the fact that service was slow (we were seated for over 20mins before a waiter approached our table to take our drink order), combined with the fact that it was so noisy that it was impossible to hold a conversation without feeling as if you were shouting, the overall experience was tainted. Waiter was very nice & explained to us that the acoustics in the back of the restaurant was the reason for the noise level being so high. Not sure if I would go back again.
Noise level was a bit High! Service was excellent!
Great local spot for a casual date or special occasion. We love the menu, which varies with seasonal specialties and go-to staples.
Wine list is great, if not "notable".
A wonderful spot to meet for a delicious lunch, brunch or dinner. I've never been disappointed here.
The service is not great. The food is good. This is consistent. They seem to understaff the dining room. Fir example, I had the ask for water when my glass was empty. The waiter was surly when asked about dressing options on a salad. An entree was brought with nuts to a nut allergic patron. The check took forever to arrive - at 3:30 pm when the place was virtually empty. Salmon was yummy as was heirloom salad. Like the place a lot but the service could be better.
Noisy. Food good. Really liked our waitress
Great local friendly vibe at the bar and tables. Piano is lovely addition. Nice menu offerings & well prepared. Staff is attentive and courteous.
Just not as good/pleasant as it should have been...Noise level, piped in music, just too high and it took until the third asking to get it adjusted downward...waitress very professional and knowledgeable but the wait time between courses, drinks etc was simply terrible...sensed there were troubles in the kitchen.
IGNORED!! We had a 4pm OpenTable reservation. Arrived at 3:30 and were ignored upon arrival to the time we left. LITERALLY. We entered the restaurant, remained at the hostess table for someone to greet us..NOTHING. I walked over to the full bar, approached a man apparently enjoying himself behind the bar, who looked like a Host, Owner,or Matre'd ,and told him we have a reservation. He came over to the hostess station, and said "yes, you have a 4pm reservation, sit where you like". We chose a table by the window, never to be approached again. No menus, water, drink order, NOTHING. I saw a waiter/bus person twice, gave him eye contact but he went outside. The host/matre'd-man, whatever, seemed to be enjoying his champagne with other bar patrons , laughing and drinking. I apologized to my friend (it was to be her birthday dinner) and we walked out!!!!!!!! TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!
We were very happy with our experience at underhill.. I found it by accident while doing a last minute search on open table. We experienced the best customer we have had in a long time. Everyone was very attentive!! Food was excellent!! Nothing disappointed!!we thought the cost of the food was reasonable.. there was a gentleman playing the piano and he was terrific and of course, added to the ambiance. We look forward to going back!
We all had amazing dishes and cocktails at Underhills. The sole special breaded in onion and panko and served in an anchovy beurre blanc was amazing. The shrimp tempura appetizer was fabulous as was the Veal Milanese entree. The Silician Slap cocktails was one of the best that I ever had.
We specifically asked for no pork . We were served pork!
The kitchen prepares food as they think it should be prepared not as it is instructed.
Attention to detail, innovative dishes and attention to quality compliments excellent service. Underhills also has a nice energy and feels festive and spirited.
Underhill's never disappomts. The food is always good; the service is always excellent. Occasionally, it is so packed that conversation is difficult. But that is seldom. Bottom line: it is a great choice for dining.
Business dinner for four
Our table was ready when promised
Great Service from the time of our welcome throughout dinner
Nicely decorated for Christmas Holiday Season
Jose’s service was great from beginning to end. As well as the other staff. The food was great! Had the octopus appetizer, freshest oysters and frute de mer apps, then a romaine salad for entrees, steak and eggs and Norwegian salmon brunch entrees. Perfect portions and a great wine list. Decor is very modern without overdoing it. I love their attention to deal. Was a great birthday lunch. Thank you to everyone at Underhills Crossing!
Underhill Crossing is a GREAT Bronxville favorite. Great food, service, ambiance, wine list and personal attention.
Been here many times. Food is always wonderful and the food has great presentation
Super restaurant. Food and service is outstanding. Especially our server by the name of José. He was funny, helpful, sociable, attentive towards our needs. I have only been going for many years and it has always been excellent. We may need to change the manu once in a while.
Brunch is the best !!!!!!
Love the restaurant and the kindness of the owner atmosphere so fun
Amazing Food and service! Highly recommend. The piano player is great as well!
Underhills Crossing is simply superb from start to finish. Everyone is exceptionally friendly and makes you feel welcome. The environment is immaculate with small touches of details, such as as the beautiful flowers on each table. Menu options are varied and reasonably priced. Dining at Underhills rather for a simple pre-theater lunch or a special occasion dinner is always a treat. One of the best that New York has to offer.
Restaurant seems to try hard at being very good but just doesn't meet the bar. Nothing was bad but it just wasn't worth the bill. Food was ok, atmosphere ok. Overpriced for what was served which is a shame as I would pay their prices if the food was better. But for what we ate, can get better at other local family restaurants.
The food was less than mediocre. Should I return I'll never order the oysters, they had a smell that stayed with me for the rest of the day. The hanger steak was served almost cold and the fries were reheated. The ravioli that evening was more of a side dish than a full meal. The service was outstanding.
Had such a nice time here as ALWAYS. I’m a good snob for sure and this place definitely meets my standards!
Best place in Bronxville
Overhill's is the best restaurant in Bronxville. Occasionally it is packed and too noisey. But it is always good.
Ambiance was wonderful, drinks were very good. The food was very good! With the exception of the sole with some strange red hot sauce on it. It did not seem to measure up. Calamari, tuna, apps were very nice. Donut desert was nice but it needed a few more donuts added to it! Highly recommend trying the place! They need a new hostess, she was not friendly at all nor accommodating!
