Located in the heart of California's wine country, the Underdog Wine Bar & Lounge in Livermore is a gem. It offers more than 50 wines from around the region, and serves up vintages with delicious foods in an 1880s barrel room. Visitors enjoy wine flights that feature two-ounce pours.
The foods at Underdog Wine Bar & Lounge are classic tapas that have been designed by Chef Henry Vortriede to work flawlessly with the vintages available. A fusion of California cuisine and global fare, each dish uses only locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. Most of the tapas platters at Underdog Wine Bar & Lounge are meant to be shared and paired.
Great spicy wineritas. Ea course was delic, tritip tacos especially good
We enjoyed the nachos and cheese plate. Both were excellent! Great patio and scenery.
I was unable to book a table for 2, or more. I booked for 1 hoping to figure things out when I arrived, or sit at the bar. I received a call the day of my reservation from an asking if I wanted to bring anyone, my reservation was changed. (I was very happy with this service, yet thoroughly confused. I was told all tables are blocked out for busy days. I'm still trying to make sense of this. So, no one can book a table, and in the afternoon when you're trying to call, no one answers. So, when you arrive, guess what? The tables are empty And never filled up. When my friend arrived, she experienced what I experienced the last 3 times I visited. A nice hostess greets you, then tells you they have no available tables. Then she learned about the reservation. In my past experience, I was greeted the same way, but I asked if there was a bar I could sit at. "Yes" she said. Each time I visited there was 4-6 empty bar stools and standing toom too. The tables are large; those all had plenty of room as well. Each time I visited in the past, the tasting room was very busy, but the area where there was music was not. I didn't see any signs showing there was music and I'm not sure they promote it. I wondered if the large crowd in the tasting room would be interested in ordering food and listening to music. It seems like a tremendous loss. We learned that anyone can sit on the lawn and purchase a bottle of wine and enjoy the music. But no one did this. I've asked all my friends that have visited multiple times as well, no one else seems to know this. My friend and I ordered wine (a pinot Grigio that was nothing like how the server described, nor did it resemble a Pinot Grigio). We also ordered dessert, a smoked berry w/creme & shortcake. What we received was a biscuit with a creme that tasted like buttermilk. It was awful! Back to our service...it was excellent. I'd recommend the underdog because of the ambience, great music & pleasant staff, but be warned of its short comings.
This is our favorite go-to place for out of town guests. The setting is just perfect, great wines that compliment small plate dining. All YUM!!
COLCANNON IS A GREAT ENTERTAINING PLACE! WE LOVE TO MEET FAMILY AND FRIENDS THERE WITH NO COOKING FOR ME AND GREAT FOOD FOR EVERYONE.
Disappointed for the first time. Service on a Thursday evening in the bar was very poor. The waitress was not well informed and had to be repeatedly asked for water, more wine and food was not served as requested. We would have ordered more to drink but decided to leave due to poor service.
As always underdog has great ambiance, with their new structure and bar on the grass it is agreat place to have an easy picnic. Shame it closes so early on a Sunday!
Underdog was very busy! We didn't mind at all - it was a beautiful day and we enjoyed the scenery!
Spent 10 minutes sitting at the table with no acknowledgement from the staff and no service. When we left we stopped at the host stand to inform her we were leaving, she seemed to be more bothered that we were talking to her rather then addressing the issue.
I met two friends for lunch at Under Dog. It was the perfect weather to sit out on the patio. The view is of a huge lawn (great for kids to play on) and vineyards. Service was a little slow to start. The menu had changed - not a good thing, since I loved the sandwiches I have gotten there in the past. There were two wraps and two salads to choose from on the luncheon menu. We each had a wrap and a salad (two chicken and one beef were ordered). We also ordered drinks. When the drinks came, I had a full glass rather than the half that I had ordered. (Not a problem for most people, but I didn't want to be tempted!) Then two beef wraps came, instead of two chicken. But two chicken wraps showed up a few minutes later. The food was good, so we enjoyed it. When we finished, we had to ask several times (to two different people) for a box for the extra food. Then we waited quite a while (15-20 minutes) to get our check, after asking several times. I had an appointment, so waiting wasn't really an option. We just felt quite forgotten. I will go back, but only to see if things are better. The view, the patio dining, and the wine list are great.
Excellent service. Staff was fun and friendly. Great enviornment. Food was amazing.
great appetizers, wines, wine flights, didn't get to the beer list yet! Too chilly on night we went to enjoy patio setup; only negative: in bar/lounge noise level makes it difficult to converse.
The service was great and we were able to conduct business while enjoying wine and appetizers.
Loud and hard to hear inside. Took forever to get drinks and food. Food was decent but not as good as it was a few years ago. No menu choices for gluten free diners- it would be easy to add crackers to the cheese platter and as an option for bruschetta.
Depending on the crowd, you may need some patience with ordering, but the general ambiance and sweetness of the staff make it worth it. Cheese plates, nuts: the menu favors shared plates and good local wine. Indoor seating and nice bench & table seating on a covered patio, overlooking vineyards.
Small plates but very good. Service was very good and waiter helpful. We sat outside and I wish the tables were a little cleaner with a little more ambience and we could have used the heaters. It was cold once out of the sun. I used to love the tuna tartar but they have changed that for a tuna taco and it was tasteless but everything else was really good. Smoked salmon was very good and a healthy portion too. This is a great place for a group after work
Went for a wine tasting and decided to stay for lunch. Found the restaurant food to be excellent and friendly server. Would definitely recommend it and will be going back.
Service wasn't good on this visit. Our glasses ran dry...in a wine bar. Intervals in between seeing waitress were very long. For this reason, we skipped dessert and dessert wine.
Underdog has the potential to be awesome. The food has improved, and the wine selection, especially by the glass, is among the best in the area. Staff either needs to be more attentive, or there need to be more staff on weekend nights.
We went for lunch on Founder's Day Weekend and were shocked by the poor service we received from our waiter.
He obviously had other things on his mind as he got our order wrong, took forever to bring our drinks, forgot to bring us the salt and pepper we asked for, disappeared when he should have brought the check and then disappeared again.
Thank goodness the hostess was fabulous, bending over backward to reseat us due to my elderly father's condition.
The food was good as well. If the waiter hadn't been so extremely uninterested in fulfilling his duties, I imagine we would have had a nice afternoon. Now we just have a bad taste in our mouths.
Mostly small plates available on weekends.
The dates wrapped in bacon were delicious and well-presented.
The rest of our selections of cheesy flatbread and turkey sandwich were ok.
Overall very good. We did have to wait a while for our table even though we had reservations.
Despite tough-to-get reservations, we found not many customers present. Food was great if you like small plates. The staff was more interested in the game on the TV than service but once they arrived at the table they were quite helpful. Bussers left food on the floor and we had shrimp shells underfoot.
We have dined here many of times and enjoyed bring out of town guests, as the outside seating has nice ambiance. Unfortunately our visit on Monday was the third time in a row we have had mediocre service and the food this time was less than stellar. Had to wait 15 minutes for a server to come to our table and it was not even busy. Then waited another 15 minutes to get our flight of wine. We sent back our flatbread, as it was not cooked through. Server never came back by to check how things were. I had to flag him down to tell him about the uncooked food. Unfortunately we will not be back.
Very limited menu selection. Food was all cold and the service was terrible. Our server was Malayla and she was awful.
This is where I take my out of town friends. It never fails to impress.
We ate outside on a cold night. We were provided with fleece blankets in addition to the heat lamps. So cozy!
Thanksgiving weekend - looking for something other than turkey leftovers, Underdog Wine Bar at Concannon Winery, was the obvious choice. Great selection of food, wine list and live music.
In summertime, it's the best place to sit outside on the very comfortable patio area or the expansive lawn and listen to music while picnicing.
Overall, good experience. I have dined here many times, but the one thing that puzzles me is the reluctance to serve adequate bread slices with the food. We had a group of 6 people, started with a 3-order of cheeses. We received 6 slices of bread with our cheeses. Really? Are we supposed to slap a huge chunk of cheese on a slice of bread for our $18? The waitress brought more bread out when we requested it, but do we have to ask? This has happened every time, whether we order 1 plate or 3. It must be mandated that they only serve 2 slices per plate. I know, I know, it's only bread. But seriously, that is the cheapest thing on the plate. Give me more bread!
Not for dinner. Small plates to enhance wine.
Had to take a client and his SO out. This was perfect, not too expensive, but good food, wonderful setting, not too fancy, yet unique setting and fun, small plates easy to share, good wine pairings, and provided a good conversation setting without being rigid and too formal. Fun, unique, and good food and wine.
