Scallops are superb!
Great place to leisurely enjoy a cocktail at the bar with a fantastic waiter! Then on to the dining room where we had a great experience with our waiter and staff. The food was amazing... especially the scallops which we had as an appetizer. Don't skip the Blueberry Bread Pudding... in fact start with that! Quite a wonderful and memorable experience. FYI... you can bring your own wine for a $15 corkage fee. BARGAIN!
One of the best meals we have ever had in Greensboro. Absolutely loved our meal. There were 3 of us and one had the seared scallops, one had the lamb chops and one had the steak. All were terrific. The cocktails? Probably the worse any of the 3 of us have ever had. My Old-Fashioned was completely in-drinkable. My friend ordered a Dirty Martini and asked for it to be VERY light on the olive juice. It came to here and was almost green from all the juice. Lesson learned....will never order cocktails; we will stick with wine. Our server, Colton, was EXCELLENT! As far as desserts, the chocolate torte was okay but the pineapple upside down cake/biscuit and the white chocolate/blueberry bread pudding were fabulous!
We were visiting from Raleigh. Great brunch with unusual takes on classic brunch dishes. Excellent Bloody Marys. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Nice ambiance. Highly recommended.
Table was ready at our reserved time on a Thursday nite. Table server was prompt, pleasant, and efficient but a few weaknesses were clearly displayed as the evening progressed despite her having “served at this restaurant a long, long time”. Example: when asked about an appetizer dish on the menu, she not only didn’t know what it was but also said she had never served it. (By the way, I dared to order it anyway and it was excellent.) At the end of the nite, she couldn’t seem to grasp splitting the bill but said the wine director would have to help in that regard - despite the fact there was only one bottle of wine on the bill and I told her I would pay for it myself. The wine director was fun and we had excellent interaction with him although understand he may be leaving shortly. Such will be Undercurrents loss. The food here was great - each of our group had a different entree and all were thoroughly enjoyed. Would have expected a broader wine list to support their excellent food (which is why we spoke with the wine director) but there were likely enough options for most. Prices were very reasonable and the tables were not squashed together as in many restaurants today. Will definitely go back.
This is our third time at Undercurrent. The staff if friendly and the food is scrumptious. We live out of the area, but when in town we want to eat here. The owner is very nice. We made one suggestion to our server and it was done within a minute. Couldn't say better things about this place.
Outstanding dining experience last evening. Alvin provided professional and friendly service. Made the meal and evening special. Give this gentleman a raise!
Kudos to the chef. All were very pleased. Spring rolls, trout, oysters and scallops a hit.
Our waiter was friendly and helpful, as was the sommelier, who recommended and shared a bottle of wine that was not on the menu but was perfect for the variety of plates we had chosen.
Second time there, second time with reservations and the second time sat by the kitchen. Food is amazing but I felt like it was a freeway by the table with staff coming and going. What does it take to get a table away from the kitchen? Wondering if it was because we were female?
We have been there 3 or 4 times now. Usually food and service are excellent. They took a small step down in food and a huge step down in service. Waiter brought us the wrong wine and argued that it was correct. Then never checked on us throughout the appetizers and entrees. Empty water glasses for most of the meal. Really disappointing.
As usual Undercurrent was a hit. Conveniently located in Downtown Greensboro, it has become my go to for client lunches. I can count on the wonderful atmosphere being perfect and the food being delicious every time. The staff is warm, welcoming, and very professional. Special compliments to chef Michael Harkenreader. His expertise, experience, and passion for his craft are all very evident with the first bite. I look forward to my next visit!
My husband and I along with my daughter and her new husband went Friday night for the first time. The scallops were cooked perfectly. My daughter raved about the Chef's custom vegetable dish. The wine sommelier was very helpful and recommended a wonderful Italian red and the key lime pie was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. We will definitely go back.
First time trying the restaurant, was very impressed, with the ambience and welcome from the staff, menu was sensibly not extensive, but varied to meet all tastes. Was very appreciative of being able to do all entrees as a small plate, very sensible.
Will definitely be back soon.
This is absolutely our favorite restaurant in Greensboro! We are a 45 minute drive away but well worth the drive! ALWAYS have a wonderful time at Undercurrent!
My wife and I went to Undercurrent to celebrate her birthday. The lobster spring rolls, catfish, rack of lamb and key lime cheesecake were delicious as were all of the sides. Couldn’t have asked for better food.
Our server Kelsey was wonderful. So polite and professional and was so conscious about the little things. We were celebrating 2 birthdays and made it special to both of them.
Went there for brunch this past Sunday. Really outstanding. Highly recommend.
Great food and service. In spite of the long drive, we will return.
There are several excellent restaurants in this city, the Undercurrent is one of the top three. On any given day one of the three may have a slightly better menu than the others. What a blissful dilemma to pick the one. An excellent experience! I'll be seeing you.
Wonderful spot great service
Good food, good waitress, had to wait 30-40 minutes for food, the restaurant was not busy at all when we ordered.
Really great find! We will be back whenever we return to Greensboro.
What a lucky find!!
Lovely attentive service. Loud crowd in the adjoining bar which eventually left (not soon enough). The food was delightful and presented superbly. A wonderful birthday dinner for my wife and friends.
Great food, great service. Fun business crowd at the bar. Overall gem. I will definitely be back!
I have always enjoyed eating at the Undercurrent. The service is great and the restaurant attractive. The food on this occassion was mixed. My meal was quite dry and didn't cohere as a dish.. I would have sent it back and I'm sure the waiter would have been glad to do so, but it would have spoiled our social event to do so. My dining partner's meal was quite delicious. We noted on open table that this was a special occassion, a birthday in fact that was not acknowledged. Did I really have to say so? So I did not. Three stars for this one. No worries, we'll be back and hope for somethng better.
It was my birthday, so I had to go to my favorite restaurant in Greensboro. Alvin was our server, and he did a marvelous job. Food great, as always, service great, as always, that’s why it’s my favorite restaurant in Greensboro.
Great dining experience, with wonderful entrees.
We were visiting Elon University and wanted a good meal to celebrate our daughter's acceptance to the school and decision to attend. I found Undercurrent highly rated online and booked through OpenTable.
We started with a cheese platter that was fantastic (4 assorted cheeses, walnuts, jammy fruit, and a cracker thin bread). I ordered the Rib Eye which was hearty, cooked perfectly, and delicious. My wife had the salmon and loved it. My daughter had the rack of lamb and said it was heavenly.
Our server was amiable and capable. In terms of dress, most men I saw had jackets though not all (I did not). For fine dining and a warm atmosphere to celebrate, Undercurrent fit the bill perfectly. I will go back on our next visit to Elon University and the Greensboro area.
Loved it!! My wife and I are first-timers to the restaurant. She had the trout and I had the bass special. All very tasty and well done. Atmosphere was very nice. Our waiter, Alton was outstanding! Everyone was very nice and friendly.
Overall, very good. Service was a little slow initially; but was redeemed in the end. Food was outstanding as usual.
Massively inconsistent. Some great items (duck, brownie desert), others bad or terrible (vegetarian option, chocolate birds milk cake.) People were nice and good atmosphere, the place has promise. If you want vegetarian, note kitchen is very literal. A bit of imagination would have helped in this case.
Undercurrent is a joy. Consistent excellent food and service in a comfortable yet professional atmosphere. On this visit, the "loaded" potato soup and oysters stood out. Special flounder was very good. Alvin's service was perfect.
Wine list was better then expected
Waffles, braised beef, w poached eggs was very unique . My son had the grilled salmon salad that he thought was very nice .
Was hoping to find something a little more hip then a diner or Cheesecake Factory for my 1st time in Greensboro . Well done .
Loved the food and ambiance. I rated the service as poor because our server was inattentive and underwhelming.
Amazing food. Locally sourced when possible. Dishes are complex but totally work. Worth the cost.
Great -Food very good- creative - lamb chop appetizer - wonderful - special very high end wines by the glass - were spectacular
Great food and service always! A nice evening out.
Presentation of food was great. But the taste was just ok. Crab cake biscuit was not worth 18 dollars. The service was very slow. Our server was super friendly and very patient as we asked many questions. But it took well over thirty minutes just to be served. The restaurant was very clean and presentable. But not a place I would go back to unless I knew I could be done with my entire dining experience within an hour.
