Excellent service and food like always. Undercurrent is reliable for a great event every time
Fried oysters, strawberry soup, vegetable nosh & pork chop were our choices and all were excellent. Service was also very good!
Once again our dining experience was wonderful! Inventive and delicious dishes, attentive staff, and excellent ambiance. (Their offering free corkage on Friday evenings is a great extra!)
Everything was wonderful. Our server was the perfect balance of attentive w/o hovering. Everything we tried was delicious. Will be back soon!
Very nice! Food is above average
This was first rate. Great meal, atmosphere and staff. Not like a pricy place that is impersable. They were very friendly. It is a more pricy restaurant but highly worth it. Loved it!
We went to Undercurrents for Sunday Brunch. Fabulous! All I can say.
Loved this place. Everything was excellent? Some new folks with our group loved it! Go there if you can!
Superb cuisine, nicely presented and piping hot. Comprehensive wine list, parking OK on a Saturday evening, but might be an issue on a weeknight. Ambient noise tolerable, attentive service.
Great time with friends in a great place.
Underwhelmed. The server as green and confused our drink orders to start, could not comment on the salmon appetizer we wanted to try (which was mediocre). He had been excited about the lobster spring rolls, so perhaps we should have gone for those. There was a good deal of confusion over glasses and plates and what needed to be on the table when (we had to instruct the server who admitted he was new). The two wines we ordered were delicious (though the server neglected to charge us for one of them, we had to have him put it o the bill). The halibut special featured tasty greens with bacon and a nice rice accompaniment, but the fish itself was bland. Similarly the trout. While cooked to a nice texture (I’d never been asked how I wanted my trout cooked before), there was little flavor aside from the guacamole garnish—disappointing. The scallops garnered no comment from our guests. We did enjoy the strawberry tiramisu and the chocolate tart. No decaf espresso was available. We are from Minneapolis and were in Greensboro to visit family. Perhaps we should have gone a meat route, but we’d already had our fill of barbecue. As it was an anniversary celebration, we appreciated the ambiance, but for $350.00, I’m afraid the experience was less than we’d hoped.
Celebrate our wedding anniversary. Great ambiance and food! Loved the pan seared duck and the pan seared scallops. This place is a hidden gem!
It was a special lunch with my aunt for my birthday. I taught Wesley and Chris, and I found that the restaurant was somewhat a mirror image of their character - friendly, kind, and always ready to make things just the way they should be. Enjoyed it immensely.
Great food and good service. Perfect for a business lunch!
Birthday luncheon for dear friend- her first time at Undercurrent- good, service and setting on point as usual! My friend is now a fan!
We've been coming to Undercurrent for years, and it (almost) never disappoints. Wednesday night was no exception - all the dishes were cooked perfectly, in terms of doneness, flavor, and blending of elements. One of our party admitted that she may not have had as consistently excellent a meal in Greensboro for five years (and we try most of the high-end restaurants). Service was exceptional (Scott is knowledgeable and effective without being pushy). All in all a five-star experience.
Undercurrent is always a great choice. They offer great food selections that support the local farms at a great value. The service is always exceptional!
We have visited Undercurrent several times during the past year and have not been disappointed.
Went for Mother's Day brunch. I had the seared salmon. It was served on freekah with aspargus on a lemon 'crema' with a touch of strawberry compote. The salmon and the asparagus were fine, the freekah had no taste at all and the 'crema' was sweet and I did not care for it at all. There was about a tablespoon of strawberry compote on top of the seared salmon; the taste combination of the fish and the crema/compote just did not work at all for me. Way too sweet.
My mother had the crab cake biscuit. She asked for the egg to be scrambled and they nicely complied. She liked the biscuit and the crab cake, but the eggs were sweet and the sauce was too, overly so. That, for her, ruined the dish.
Husband had one of the two specials; seared tuna with mushrooms, some pasta and a sauce. Again, the sauce was heavy on the sweet side. He liked the tuna, but not the sweet sauce. What's with all the sugar??? We all found it so odd.
Service was excellent. The welcome as we arrived lovely. Decor, clean and attractive.
We each ordered a dessert. I had the carrot cake, sans the ice cream as I don't like rum raisin ice cream. The cake was fine, nothing special and I would not order it again. My mother had the chocolate silk pie. Chocolate silk was very good, but the tarte like crust was extremely thick for the filling. Tasted good though.
Husband ordered the blueberry bread pudding with caramel sauce. He wanted me to taste it. It was very difficult to swallow the small bite I scooped. It was sickeningly sweet, to the point of wanting to remove it from my mouth. I have no idea how anyone could eat anything that gooey sweet. He ate a few bites and left it. He likened it to drinking from a bottle of syrup.
I guess we just aren't fans of highly sweetened foods. None of us could recall ever dining in a restaurant that seemed to sweeten main courses to this degree and could never recall any place serving a dessert so awfully gooey sweet.
Not likely to return.
Best restaurant in Greensboro. Great food, great service. We are regulars for Sunday brunch and special occasions.
Very nice! We had heard good things about Undercurrent and our experience lived up to what we had been told. Wait staff attentive and professional. The chicken and salmon dishes were prepared creatively with wonderful blending of flavors. Portion size was just right. The wine list offered plenty of variety. While we didn’t have dessert, the options looked quite appealing. We’ll be back soon, for sure!
I took my Mum here for a Mother’s Day lunch. We were highly disappointed with the awful waiter. He was aloof and rude. The food was good but nothing to run back too. We walked by the waiter as we were leaving and he turned his back on us and didn’t even say goodbye. Very surprised because of all the other rave reviews. So, with graduation and other special occasions coming up, we’ve decided to pick other restaurants.
Wonderful food, perfect portions.
More & more this is becoming one of our favorite Greensboro restaurants!
I love that the menu changes seasonally. There seemed to be a great variety that they offer on the menu. However, I was disappointed with the scallops, they were very seared. To the point that they were very brown and crispy. In our reservation, we made the comment that we were celebrating 2 birthdays. They never mentioned our special occasions.
The service was excellent!
This was our first time at Undercurrent. The atmosphere is very appealing—calm and clean with tables spread out over the large dining room. The waitress was warm and welcoming. The menu had great options and they accommodated my allergies. Everything we ordered was delicious. We look forward to returning.
Food was great and we all were part of the clean plate club. So good!
Ambiance was nice and food was excellent!! Very impressed and will go again!!
I enjoyed the flavors of the foods. We had appetizers, main course, and dessert. Each item delicious.
Scallops are superb!
Great place to leisurely enjoy a cocktail at the bar with a fantastic waiter! Then on to the dining room where we had a great experience with our waiter and staff. The food was amazing... especially the scallops which we had as an appetizer. Don't skip the Blueberry Bread Pudding... in fact start with that! Quite a wonderful and memorable experience. FYI... you can bring your own wine for a $15 corkage fee. BARGAIN!
One of the best meals we have ever had in Greensboro. Absolutely loved our meal. There were 3 of us and one had the seared scallops, one had the lamb chops and one had the steak. All were terrific. The cocktails? Probably the worse any of the 3 of us have ever had. My Old-Fashioned was completely in-drinkable. My friend ordered a Dirty Martini and asked for it to be VERY light on the olive juice. It came to here and was almost green from all the juice. Lesson learned....will never order cocktails; we will stick with wine. Our server, Colton, was EXCELLENT! As far as desserts, the chocolate torte was okay but the pineapple upside down cake/biscuit and the white chocolate/blueberry bread pudding were fabulous!
We were visiting from Raleigh. Great brunch with unusual takes on classic brunch dishes. Excellent Bloody Marys. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Nice ambiance. Highly recommended.
Table was ready at our reserved time on a Thursday nite. Table server was prompt, pleasant, and efficient but a few weaknesses were clearly displayed as the evening progressed despite her having “served at this restaurant a long, long time”. Example: when asked about an appetizer dish on the menu, she not only didn’t know what it was but also said she had never served it. (By the way, I dared to order it anyway and it was excellent.) At the end of the nite, she couldn’t seem to grasp splitting the bill but said the wine director would have to help in that regard - despite the fact there was only one bottle of wine on the bill and I told her I would pay for it myself. The wine director was fun and we had excellent interaction with him although understand he may be leaving shortly. Such will be Undercurrents loss. The food here was great - each of our group had a different entree and all were thoroughly enjoyed. Would have expected a broader wine list to support their excellent food (which is why we spoke with the wine director) but there were likely enough options for most. Prices were very reasonable and the tables were not squashed together as in many restaurants today. Will definitely go back.
This is our third time at Undercurrent. The staff if friendly and the food is scrumptious. We live out of the area, but when in town we want to eat here. The owner is very nice. We made one suggestion to our server and it was done within a minute. Couldn't say better things about this place.
Outstanding dining experience last evening. Alvin provided professional and friendly service. Made the meal and evening special. Give this gentleman a raise!
Kudos to the chef. All were very pleased. Spring rolls, trout, oysters and scallops a hit.
Our waiter was friendly and helpful, as was the sommelier, who recommended and shared a bottle of wine that was not on the menu but was perfect for the variety of plates we had chosen.
Second time there, second time with reservations and the second time sat by the kitchen. Food is amazing but I felt like it was a freeway by the table with staff coming and going. What does it take to get a table away from the kitchen? Wondering if it was because we were female?
We have been there 3 or 4 times now. Usually food and service are excellent. They took a small step down in food and a huge step down in service. Waiter brought us the wrong wine and argued that it was correct. Then never checked on us throughout the appetizers and entrees. Empty water glasses for most of the meal. Really disappointing.
As usual Undercurrent was a hit. Conveniently located in Downtown Greensboro, it has become my go to for client lunches. I can count on the wonderful atmosphere being perfect and the food being delicious every time. The staff is warm, welcoming, and very professional. Special compliments to chef Michael Harkenreader. His expertise, experience, and passion for his craft are all very evident with the first bite. I look forward to my next visit!
