This restaurant lives up to the hype for sure. My wife and I met some good friends here during a Romantic getaway for dinner.
We ordered the crab appetizer and it was excellent. For the main course she had the duck and I had the trout. I ordered the half plate. Both were excellent and had plenty of food for us to share and have our fill. For dessert we split the cheesecake, also excellent. I had a dirty martini and they got it perfect with my request of using potato vodka. One of the best martinis I have had in a while.
The only thing "lacking" (and this is purely opinion) was the wine list - the price didn't match the vintage/winery. Also, they should add a couple cabs / merlots from Alexander Valley by the glass (they only had one Alexander Valley selection; bottle only). This ended up being a good thing for me as I ordered the martini in lieu of wine.
The place was great for conversation, we never felt like we had to talk any louder than normal and we didn't notice anyone else's conversations. Parking wasn't a problem either. Our waitress was very attentive, and we lacked nothing when it came to water refills, timeliness of orders, and recommendations off the menu. We were a little concerned about dress code; I was wearing slacks and a sweater and she just looks good no matter what she wears. We noticed people in nice jeans and collared shirts, so it is a non issue as long as you don't show up in shorts, wear t-shirts, or ripped jeans.
Also, just my thoughts here, I don't recommend bringing little kids or crying babies. I think this is a place parents like us attend in order to get away from that. Give your kids to the in-laws / good friends for a night, LOL.
Thanks undercurrent, we will certainly come again!
Quality food with creative presentation. Good value for money for overall package.
A special date from Russia and I dined at the Undercurrent Restaurant for the first time in mid-February, 2018. Due to work conflicts, we were celebrating a belated Valentine's Day dinner. The staff were extremely helpful and the specials they related all sounded appetising. My date ordered the tuna special on a bed of couscous and I had the salmon in an orange ice cream sauce; both were cooked to perfection and incredibly tasty. Together with an always incredible sauvignon blanc with grapefruit highlights from Marlboro, New Zealand, the dining experience surpassed all expectations. We will return in the future to try other dishes and celebrate special occasions at the Undercurrent Restaurant.
This was only our second visit but have been extremely pleased on both occasions; the food, friendly service and quiet atmosphere have definitely made this one of our top restaurants in Greensboro. We took advantage of free corkage Friday which makes it a more affordable experience. Our server, Ellie, was friendly and personable, knowledgeable about the menu and attentive but not lurking. The two appetizers and dessert was just the right amount of food for us and all was delicious! We will definitely come back soon.
We stopped for lunch. It was good, not as good as usual, but this still is my favorite restaurant in Greensboro!
Four of us met for dinner and all agreed it was one of the best dining experiences that we have had in a long time. We've dined in some of the finest restaurants in the world, so this is saying a lot for Undercurrent.
From the hostess asking if we preferred white or black napkins, to our server Calvin being excellent and of course the food which was fabulous our experience was truly great.
Our only issue is that this great restaurant is over and hour and a half from our homes so will be hard to go to on a regular basis.
Outstanding service from Scott plus excellent food - an appetizer to share of crab, two of us had tuna with Israeli couscous and the other had green eggs and ham tart. Great food, great evening.
My husband and I went to Undercurrent for Valentines Day. The staff were very friendly, our hostess seated us at a little corner table which was romantic and quiet. Our appetizer of lobster and shrimp spring rolls was elegant and delicious. My husband got the scallops and I got the trout. Each dish was exquisitely prepared and extremely tasty. Thank you!
The food was Phenominal. Always a family favorite.
Extremely satisfied. Food and service was excellent. Accommodations were outstanding.
Great meal although the portion of snapper was small for the price.
My wife and I decided to do an early Valentine’s lunch vs dinner. The meal was very good, and though a limited lunch menu we were able to find several very good options. Well prepared, and very tasty.
Great food, great service, I appreciate you treating us so well even though we had to come in somewhat late
Had a lovely dinner at Undercurrent. The food, wine, and desert were all amazing. Would definitely go back.
I found it odd that being the first patrons there at 11:30 AM that the parking lot was full. I mentioned this to the waitress and she stated that most of the employees park there since it's the only free parking. I think management should accommodate employees by providing parking that did not take parking away from paying customers. I had to pay for parking.
Nice, upscale restaurant with good atmosphere. Sunday brunch meals were very good - excellent omelette with spinach and mushrooms. Great place to go before Sunday afternoon theatre production!
This was our first time dinning at Undercurrent and we will definitely be back. The service was wonderful and the food exquisite .
This is our favorite restaurant in Greensboro for special occasions. We've always been pleased with our entree and recently had the red snapper and trout which were prepared with perfectly balanced seasonings and sides. The blueberry bread pudding is the best, anywhere.
The Undercurrent is our favorite Greensboro restaurant. We go there often and are always delighted with the delicious, innovative food and the attentive, friendly service.
Undercurrent is hands down my favorite restaurant in Greensboro. Every meal I've had has been spectacular and I especially like that they'll cater to my special food preferences, creating amazing dishes when I ask for "vegetarian, gluten free". Fantastic service, great place for business meetings, great spot for date night!
We made reservations online weeks in advance. I made a note we had never dined there before and we are celebrating our wedding anniversary. We we're sat at a small table for two in an alcove of seating with a table across for four. Our seating was perfect until the restaurant was bare and they sat a family of four next to us. The alcove echoes so we heard their whole conversation. The food was excellent. The service was sparse. The restaurant made no effort and no mention of us celebrating our anniversary. An acknowledgement that we chose to spend our special night in their establishment. We will not be returning.
Undercurrent is my favorite restaurant in Greensboro. I have never been disappointed they seem to have it all together. The no corkage fee on Friday nights is by far the best deal in town.
As always amazing food and service. Chef Michael simply makes the most tremendous dishes. The Undercurrent is simply the most enjoyable restaurant in Greensboro.
I'm never disappointed with Undercurrent. The food is always perfect. The wine recommendation (lovely Colene Clemens pinot noir) was exactly right for our food choices. The staff is friendly and welcoming. It's simply the best upscale dining in Greensboro.
Excellent. Our favorite restaurant in Greensboro.
Just an amazing brunch. We had not been to the Undercurrent in several years. The manager/brothers have hit on a well balance and inventive menu as well as stellar service. Dont neglect the Undercurrent.
Fantastic meal and great service. Will definitely be returning.
The food was fabulous, as usual. Our server, Eleanor, was knowledgeable, friendly and always attentive. It was a very positive experience, as it always is. The nest restaurant in Greensboro!
Deb and I went there for our anniversary. The Undercurrent came to mind because I had received a coupon (which I couldn't find). I had never been to the restaurant - though Deb had been there twice for lunch. Not many people were there on a Wednesday night. The restaurant would be more enjoyable if more people were there. On the other hand I appreciated the fact that it was easy to talk. I liked the snazzy style of the restaurant. I liked the blown-up photo of
part of the fountain in front of the Palais Garnier (the old Opera) in Paris. I appreciated the small plates: enough to eat and good for the wallet. The egg rolls we ordered as an appetizer were especially tasty. I thought that the manager should be wearing a necktie, even in 2017. The server managed to seem not very intrusive - even though he kept checking on how-we-were-doing (snore). I prefer the Undercurrent to Mark's - both for setting and food (though we like Mark's). We'll be returning to the Undercurrent, perhaps with another couple. Heck I found the $10 coupon.
We have been going to Undercurrent for years and never disappointed until New Year’s Eve.
They took our 9:00 PM Reservation, but from the moment we got there they were in a hurry for us to order, eat and leave..... cleaning tables while we were eating....
