Undercurrent Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant lives up to the hype for sure. My wife and I met some good friends here during a Romantic getaway for dinner.
We ordered the crab appetizer and it was excellent. For the main course she had the duck and I had the trout. I ordered the half plate. Both were excellent and had plenty of food for us to share and have our fill. For dessert we split the cheesecake, also excellent. I had a dirty martini and they got it perfect with my request of using potato vodka. One of the best martinis I have had in a while.
The only thing "lacking" (and this is purely opinion) was the wine list - the price didn't match the vintage/winery. Also, they should add a couple cabs / merlots from Alexander Valley by the glass (they only had one Alexander Valley selection; bottle only). This ended up being a good thing for me as I ordered the martini in lieu of wine.
The place was great for conversation, we never felt like we had to talk any louder than normal and we didn't notice anyone else's conversations. Parking wasn't a problem either. Our waitress was very attentive, and we lacked nothing when it came to water refills, timeliness of orders, and recommendations off the menu. We were a little concerned about dress code; I was wearing slacks and a sweater and she just looks good no matter what she wears. We noticed people in nice jeans and collared shirts, so it is a non issue as long as you don't show up in shorts, wear t-shirts, or ripped jeans.
Also, just my thoughts here, I don't recommend bringing little kids or crying babies. I think this is a place parents like us attend in order to get away from that. Give your kids to the in-laws / good friends for a night, LOL.
Thanks undercurrent, we will certainly come again!
A special date from Russia and I dined at the Undercurrent Restaurant for the first time in mid-February, 2018. Due to work conflicts, we were celebrating a belated Valentine's Day dinner. The staff were extremely helpful and the specials they related all sounded appetising. My date ordered the tuna special on a bed of couscous and I had the salmon in an orange ice cream sauce; both were cooked to perfection and incredibly tasty. Together with an always incredible sauvignon blanc with grapefruit highlights from Marlboro, New Zealand, the dining experience surpassed all expectations. We will return in the future to try other dishes and celebrate special occasions at the Undercurrent Restaurant.
This was only our second visit but have been extremely pleased on both occasions; the food, friendly service and quiet atmosphere have definitely made this one of our top restaurants in Greensboro. We took advantage of free corkage Friday which makes it a more affordable experience. Our server, Ellie, was friendly and personable, knowledgeable about the menu and attentive but not lurking. The two appetizers and dessert was just the right amount of food for us and all was delicious! We will definitely come back soon.
Four of us met for dinner and all agreed it was one of the best dining experiences that we have had in a long time. We've dined in some of the finest restaurants in the world, so this is saying a lot for Undercurrent.
From the hostess asking if we preferred white or black napkins, to our server Calvin being excellent and of course the food which was fabulous our experience was truly great.
Our only issue is that this great restaurant is over and hour and a half from our homes so will be hard to go to on a regular basis.
My husband and I went to Undercurrent for Valentines Day. The staff were very friendly, our hostess seated us at a little corner table which was romantic and quiet. Our appetizer of lobster and shrimp spring rolls was elegant and delicious. My husband got the scallops and I got the trout. Each dish was exquisitely prepared and extremely tasty. Thank you!
I found it odd that being the first patrons there at 11:30 AM that the parking lot was full. I mentioned this to the waitress and she stated that most of the employees park there since it's the only free parking. I think management should accommodate employees by providing parking that did not take parking away from paying customers. I had to pay for parking.
This is our favorite restaurant in Greensboro for special occasions. We've always been pleased with our entree and recently had the red snapper and trout which were prepared with perfectly balanced seasonings and sides. The blueberry bread pudding is the best, anywhere.
Undercurrent is hands down my favorite restaurant in Greensboro. Every meal I've had has been spectacular and I especially like that they'll cater to my special food preferences, creating amazing dishes when I ask for "vegetarian, gluten free". Fantastic service, great place for business meetings, great spot for date night!
We made reservations online weeks in advance. I made a note we had never dined there before and we are celebrating our wedding anniversary. We we're sat at a small table for two in an alcove of seating with a table across for four. Our seating was perfect until the restaurant was bare and they sat a family of four next to us. The alcove echoes so we heard their whole conversation. The food was excellent. The service was sparse. The restaurant made no effort and no mention of us celebrating our anniversary. An acknowledgement that we chose to spend our special night in their establishment. We will not be returning.
Deb and I went there for our anniversary. The Undercurrent came to mind because I had received a coupon (which I couldn't find). I had never been to the restaurant - though Deb had been there twice for lunch. Not many people were there on a Wednesday night. The restaurant would be more enjoyable if more people were there. On the other hand I appreciated the fact that it was easy to talk. I liked the snazzy style of the restaurant. I liked the blown-up photo of
part of the fountain in front of the Palais Garnier (the old Opera) in Paris. I appreciated the small plates: enough to eat and good for the wallet. The egg rolls we ordered as an appetizer were especially tasty. I thought that the manager should be wearing a necktie, even in 2017. The server managed to seem not very intrusive - even though he kept checking on how-we-were-doing (snore). I prefer the Undercurrent to Mark's - both for setting and food (though we like Mark's). We'll be returning to the Undercurrent, perhaps with another couple. Heck I found the $10 coupon.
We had not been back to the Undercurrent in over two years. The food and service had definitely improved. My wife had a soup and a beef appetizer, while I had a salad and beef entre. All were very good to excellent. The service was friendly and attentive. We will go back in the near future.
This is our favorite restaurant in Greensboro. We love everything about this place. We have been there often enough that the hostess knows us. The ambiance suites us very well, and the service is always excellent. Two things stand out: the chef and Brandon, the sommelier. The food is outrageous, and it is hard to pick one thing that we like the best. The wine choices are creative and unusual and are spot-on for what we are eating. We always end of buying a mixed case of wine from the choices we had for dinner, since the wines that Brandon selects come from smaller vineyards that cannot supply Total Wine or Costco.
From beginning to end our experience was delightful .. food was amazing .. I had the scallops which I would absolutely order again .. they tasted fresh and the sauce gave my senses that I was in the tropics on a beach ... loved !!! My friend had duck and enjoyed .. another nice thing was being able to talk and hear each other .. will return to enjoy another evening !
First time for brunch at Undercurrent. The selection was great and I had the Breakfast Plater. Plenty of food (2 eggs, 3 pieces of bacon, 3 sausage links and hash browns and all very good. My wife had the omelet and it was very good. Definitely a nice place for a Sunday brunch.
Great service with great food. All of the courses were made with care and tasted fantastic. No one rushes through dinner or even sitting at the bar for a drink. Get in now. When the new hotel, condos and apartments are finished this place will need a bigger building. My fourth time here and like a good wine it gets better with age.
